Herriot House Veterinary Surgery

Positive experience: Staff are always kind and professional. I'm always shocked by the cost, but I've never been to any other vet for comparison.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend the team at Herriot House. I had called many local vet surgery’s to obtain a quote for desexing of my 7 month old pup. Although Herriot House wasn’t the cheapest option, they included many services (such as pre-anaesthesia blood work) which are charged at an additional premium at other vets. The Herriot House team were compassionate and kind, ensuring to call us within 24 hours of his procedure, and then scheduling a follow-up appointment free of charge 3 days later. They provided helpful advice when my dog destroyed his cone after the surgery, and were happy for me to visit anytime should I have any concerns. They obviously did a great job of suturing after the procedure, as my dog has shown no signs of discomfort at all.

Negative experience: The vet we saw told me I should euthanase my 16 week old puppy because she didn't like his breed and assumed he was aggressive, when he was just a timid, scared baby. She kept insisting that he was a Pitbull, and seemed very biased, even though his adoption papers all say he is a Kelpie X Staffy. She took no time to let him smell her or get used to her. She didn't give him a treat or kind word. She slammed the door noisily when she came into the room and was very abrupt, rough and rude, both with the dog and to myself. We have already found a new vet. Quite unhappy as I have taken all my dogs to herriot house for 18 years. However, I've dealt with her before with previous dogs and she was rude then too. Telling me I need to kill my newly adopted puppy because she though (incorrectly) he was a Pitbull, was the last straw.

Fantastic experience: Would rate higher if I could! I’ve been going to Herriot House since moving to Toowoomba, and every time, with every vet/nurse we see, they just really care and go the extra mile to ensure my pups are comfortable with them, and explain everything well so that I understand and I never feel rushed. My older dog used to get so nervous going into the vet but he walks right up to the entrance at Herriot House. Have never found a better veterinary clinic. 10/10 will forever be coming back to this one

Fantastic experience: Always extremely happy with the service we received from all the staff. We recently took one our dog there for a emergency life saving operation. All the staff were amazing! They cared for our girl like she was one of their own.

Fantastic experience: We are incredibly grateful for the exceptional care our doggo received during his glaucoma journey. He required double eye removal surgery, and the team at Herriot House was nothing short of amazing. As a rescue pup with significant anxiety, they were incredibly understanding and compassionate towards him. Our dog is doing wonderfully, and we continue to schedule regular check-ups and treatments with them. The surgery itself was very reasonably priced, considering the complexity of the procedure and the level of care provided. We are forever thankful to the Herriot House team! The only aspect that felt a bit expensive was purchasing medications directly from them, so we opted to source them elsewhere The vet itself is very clean, well maintained and feels homey as the building is an old queenslander.

Negative experience: Amazing vets and caring staff - 2019 Update as of 17 Dec 2024 We had previously gone to Herriot House when both Dr. Peter Noble and Dr. Peter Lyons were still there. Back then, their compassion, empathy, and service were top notch and worthy of 5 stars. However since then it's gone downhill. After a long struggle with health issues, our cat had to be put to sleep. The vet was very focused on payment and lacked any compassion for the animal or the owner. We will not be returning to Herriot House.

Negative experience: I have had all my pets here for the last decade. The last 2 visits were horrible. The first my dog was treated like a viscous dog. She is a very gentle, submissive dog and was cowering behind me. The vet stood on the other side of the room and asked me to put a muzzle on her (she has never had a muzzle on before which really stressed her out more). The whole visit was very distressing and I found the vet lacked all compassion. The second visit I was overseas and my cat became unwell. I suspected a UTI or a kidney stone as she has had them before. She had stopped eating and drinking so I had the people staying in my home take her to the vet. I was told on the phone that if I was feeding her the correct food (which she had been on for years since the last vet recommended it,) that she would not be making kidney stones and she was full of kidney stones. I was advised that they did not have the correct instruments and I would need to go to REDVETS. It is technically my son's cat but she has lived with me most of her life and as he had been out of work for months I had to make the excruciating decision to have her put to sleep. There is more that occurred but the bottom line is that the vet was anything but compassionate (same vet as my previous visit) and the people who had taken my cat to the vet were shocked at the lack of compassion also. She was more concerned about getting payment than having any understanding for the difficulty of the situation or displaying any kindness. This used to be the best vet in town but I will never be back.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly, helpful and professional staff. We are VERY impressed with Dr Lisa Sunners - our new vet since Dr Noble retired. She is knowledgeable, caring, offers all options - helping you choose the one that suits your pet and doesn't rush when examining our very anxious large breed dog. And she is so very patient with all my questions. Highly recommend.

Negative experience: Lost its heart not the same just a big money grab

Negative experience: Don't go to this vet if you love your pets... They don't care are money hungry and diagnose things that aren't the case! If I can leave no stars I would. Biggest shonks ever!!!

Negative experience: I am writing to express concerns about the recent visit my friend Elena Currie had with her dog, Cookie, at your clinic. My friend brought Cookie in because she was worried that he wasn't feeling well. During the visit, your team conducted several examinations and suggested that Cookie had ingested something that was stuck in his stomach, necessitating urgent surgery. This diagnosis caused significant distress to my friend, as she was not prepared for such a severe situation. Your team advised her to act quickly to avoid putting Cookie’s life at risk. However, as your clinic was closing, she had to take Cookie to the recommended emergency facility. There, she faced similar pressure to agree to an X-ray and was told that Cookie could die without immediate intervention. My friend has been under immense stress recently, having undergone cancer surgery herself and dealing with serious personal issues involving police intervention. During the emergency visit, she had to step outside to speak with a detective about a personal matter, which took approximately 50 minutes. When she returned, she was informed that Cookie was actually okay and did not require any surgery or additional procedures. The sudden change in the diagnosis and the initial pressure to conduct potentially unnecessary procedures have left my friend confused and distressed. She is struggling to understand why the initial assessment at your clinic was so dire if Cookie turned out to be alright. Could you please provide some clarification on why such an urgent and invasive course of action was initially recommended for Cookie? Understanding this situation better will help my friend process what happened and regain trust in the veterinary care provided. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Negative experience: Don't go Saturday morning. Was waiting in reception for 30 minutes (arrived before appointment time) before anyone came to see if anyone waiting.

Negative experience: Took my beautiful young boy here. We paid for products that were not effective due to misdiagnosis & informed they would help him recover. He got worse due to misdiagnosis, we took him back & he went under anaesthetic after advising the vet that he is very vulnerable under anaesthetic & cannot tolerate it. I signed the forms as was advised he needs the procedure & we will have him back on Monday. He passed under anaesthetic that day & I never got to say goodbye because he was misdiagnosed & went under for a procedure that was incorrect due to misdiagnosis. I miss my baby boy every day & regret ever taking him here. I will never forgive myself. I love you always Kuro.

Negative experience: After rushing my friends dog to the vets suffering from the effects of a paralysis tick, he stayed over night and was well looked after 'we thought!!' But then we had to transfer him to Red Vets where he could have 24 hour around the clock care because we were told he wasn't doing as well as they had hoped. Thats all the info we were given. But on arrival to pick him up from harriot house he was bought out to us us carried in a towel and he was purple and starving of oxygen. The head ver at Red Vets rushed him jnto ICU and came out and told us he was on his last stages of his life and was sadly put to sleep. We along with the Vets were gob smacked we weren't well informed or given the critical care needed to save his life. So disappointed and the expense of $3500 later, only to take him to another vet to have put to sleep was devastating

Negative experience: Picked up a cat on Herries St at the St Marry’s basketball stadium. Rang them to let them know I was heading down with a cat who had just been hit and all they could say was “sorry but we are closing soon”, i was a minute away from them and they told me they wouldn’t take him. They sounded so rude. I had to take this poor cat all the way to Red Vet (who apparently haven’t been hearing the best either about herriot’s). My first time going to Red Vet and I can honestly say if I’m ever in need for a vet I’ll probably be going there instead because they were way more caring.

Fantastic experience: All the staff that Billie (dog) and I dealt with were great, especially the vet Melinda. I am confident that our little man will make a full recovery. An expensive exercise, but very necessary sadly. I don't regret the decision to take Billie there on Sunday morning.

Negative experience: 30 years of being a customer and a total of 11 pets, I’ve finally had enough. I was told to go elsewhere as my dog of 14 years 7 months was rapidly going down hill after dental surgery 2 weeks prior. She needed to be seen immediately as she was having seizures. I was told I couldn’t come in and had to wait 3 hours for my appointment that I had. I held her while she had seizure after seizure. Rung a totally unknown vet and they said bring her in immediately. She was put to sleep within 30mins of my call to them. I was told they were too busy ! 30 years !!!!!! How’s that for loyalty?

Fantastic experience: Took our new fur child Pebbles here to get follow-up shots and a check up. Being from Redcliffe and not having had a pet since 2012 and that pet a bird . Pebbles being my first dog since 1987 nervous is understating my feelings. Needless to say my partner being from Tbah and a long term dog owner a her previous dog being a patient here till his passing relaxed me the nurses and staff where caring and professional the vet gave pebbles the thumbs up a very good specimen ahh so happy pebbs is going nowhere else from now on

Positive experience: Used to be 5+ stars when the two Peters were operating it. It used to be the best! The last brilliant vet left a couple of months ago. And they didn't bother to contact us to inform us that Dr Isabella had left and discuss on going vet care with our pets. Go there if you want an average vet service that's like 90% of other vet services. I feel that it's just being run as a business first and a vet service second. But not as much as some. Comments from customer for 27 years. Edit: changed to 3 stars as most vet clinics are the same. At least they're not rip off merchants like some. Yes we got burnt bad!

Negative experience: Be prepared to be laughed at on the phone if you're distressed - a jovial receptionist will interrupt and boarderline mock you while attempting to explain a difficult situation. If you're seeking an effective route to frustration or resentment, don't hesitate to call.

Negative experience: Have been going there for over 30 yrs. Polite reception staff and great caring vets, but not no more. Rude, unwelcoming, not there for the better of the pets or owners any more. I'm just glad I've seen the change before I booked my daughter's dog in. This family is now looking for a new family vet.

Negative experience: I was informed that Dr Peter Lyons is no longer a vet at this practice & when I enquired where he had gone to, or if he had retired, I was spoken to in a most unprofessional and disdainful manner. Dr Peter deserves more respect and so do customers that have been loyal to this vet surgery for many years. If the rudeness I encountered is indicative of the kind of service they now provide, I am glad to be taking my animals elsewhere. In case any one is looking for Dr Peter Lyons, he does a few days at Highfields Vet Surgery, Kuhls Rd. The staff there are friendly as well, I can't imagine they would speak to anyone the way I was spoken to at Herriot House.

Fantastic experience: I live in Brisbane but was recommended by my dog’s breeder to travel to Herriot House in Toowoomba (nearly two hours) for anything major. First surgery my puppy needed, we took the day off work and drove to Toowoomba to Herriot House. On arrival we found out that we had mixed the dates up and were a week early. The nurse did not skip a beat, she was so professional and so friendly, and asked us to just wait a moment. Within minutes the vet came out, who reflected the nurse’s amazing attitude and told us that they would absolutely do the surgery today. The whole experience was 10/10. The surgery ended up costing $600 less than what we were quoted in Brisbane. Could not recommend Herriot House more, we will be back!

Negative experience: Be careful! I took my dog here when he got a tick and he was for the most part fine, vet tried to tell me he was paralyzed (got up and started walking around right after) he was a bit lethargic after removing so they offered to keep him over night and give him fluids. They charged me 850 dollars for keeping him in one night and giving him some fluid, they should have told me that it was likely my dog had possibly gotten a tick in the past and built up somewhat of an immunity as normally complete paralysis is what happens. Instead they used scare tactics and charged me and ungodly sum for 1 night, fluids and literally 6 minutes of two people combing him. STAY AWAY
