Fantastic experience: Dr. Vivienne has such a rare and beautiful combination of professionalism and genuine warmth. Cats have very particular personalities, and she instinctively understands that. She speaks to them softly, moves calmly, and creates an environment that feels safe instead of intimidating. Negative experience: I was grateful to have found a vet open on a public holiday but left feeling extremely scammed. Came here for a litterbox issue and paid $316 total for a consultation, only to receive one piece of generic medical advice from Dr Ian that I could’ve found on the front page of google. It wasn’t specific to the situation or the context provided, nor did the vet help us dig into why this sudden behavioural issue had occurred, which was the whole point of us visiting a vet (i did ask but didn’t receive much of an answer). He asked no questions about my cat’s history, personality, diet, etc. and I’m left having to now figure it out on my own. Given that we were only provided with one suggestion “change the type of litter you’re using” should the advice not work we’ll be back at the clinic paying another few hundred dollars to talk to the vet about things that could’ve been covered in the first appointment. Didn’t feel cared for and I wouldn’t recommend.

Inappropriate urination in cats can be a sign of serious medical conditions, which is why a full physical examination and urine testing were performed to rule out infection, obstruction, or other painful causes that cannot be diagnosed without veterinary assessment. Once medical causes were excluded, the findings were most consistent with a behavioural or environmental issue, and evidence-based recommendations were provided accordingly.
As this appointment took place on a public holiday, consultation and diagnostic fees are higher due to increased staffing and operational costs required to remain open and provide care when many clinics are closed.
We regret if this wasn’t communicated clearly or if you felt your concerns weren’t fully addressed. Behavioural issues can be complex and sometimes require follow-up, and we’re always happy to discuss findings or next steps in more detail.

Fantastic experience: I came here with my recently adopted kitty for a consultation. We had a great experience with Sydney Animal Hospitals Newtown. The doctors and staffs were kind and supportive. Maple was very nervous but the doctor handled her very gently and made sure that she’s comfortable. Glad to left the hospital with good news that she’s healthy and had gained a little weight! Note from our lovely vet: Record your pet’s symptoms!! (vomiting, coughing, sneezing, difficulty breathing). It might not be the first thing you think of during your pet’s episode, but trust me it’ll be very helpful for a more thorough evaluation!

Negative experience: This place lost me forever! With 2 dogs for the past 20 years, I easily had spent thousands of dollars to care for them. But when I took my dog to have 2 of the dew claws clip last week, they wanted to charge $15 for a 20 seconds job. Over the years, I can see how this place has changed, to become money focused instead of providing love & care to your pets when needed. The amount they charge, of course you would not expect less. However when I tried another vet hospital near by, I was amazed. I paid half of the amount that Newtown Vet quoted, and how they followed up before & after the procedure was incredible. Such as taking my dog for walk & played with him, sending me photos to ease my stress. Newtown Vet never provid this service, and some of the vets there can be a bit cold & less interest sometimes. After all, there's no good reason for me to go back. So good bye for now!
Fantastic experience: Our boy recently had surgery for a ruptured ACL. From that very first visit, we have felt truly supported. All the vets allayed our anxieties and answered all our questions with patience and empathy. After the surgery, we were kept up-to-date with pictures sent by the kennel staff and the virtual clinic was incredibly useful. If we had any worries, we could just touch base with them through chat and they would get back to us. Thank you to the wonderful team for always going above and beyond and showing so much love and care. We are 4 weeks post-surgery and we pop in once a week for laser and a general check up. Atticus is getting better and better thanks to the team at SAH x

Fantastic experience: Dr Liam was exceptionally professional realistic and v compassionate when it came to the diagnosis and passing of my beloved feline companion Princess Nina, my gorgeous Russian Blue adopted cat who delighted me and the neighbourhood for 12 years. Fantastic experience: My kitten fell awkwardly on her head and I wasn't sure if I needed to take her to the vet. I called and explained what happened and they were incredibly helpful over the phone and were able to book me in that same evening. The vet herself was lovely and very reassuring and my kitten turned out to be fine :) I received a follow up call a couple of days afterwards, asking how my kitten was and I thought that was a really lovely gesture. Fantastic experience: We took our little pup Zuzu here for his desexing and couldn’t be happier with the care. The staff kept us updated and explained everything clearly, which made us feel really comfortable. Zuzu came back happy and relaxed, which says a lot. Every time we called, they were kind and helpful, and the vets and nurses really know their stuff. They even gave us great advice about his baby teeth not coming out yet. Honestly, such a caring and skilled team, we’re really grateful.
Fantastic experience: I have a 5 month old puppy and last night I needed the help of Sydney Animal Hospital. From the first call, I was made feel like I was their only customer. Giving me expert advice and service. Then when I arrived the service and consult was excellent and everything well explained. I arrived upset as my puppy was not well and left Feeling a lot better as my puppy had a compassionate and expert consultation with a satisfactory outcome. Great job Sydney Animal Hospital . Fantastic experience: After 2 decades of taking my furry friends to the vet. I’ve realised not all vets are equal when it comes down to a few basic principles. Friendly staff that listen and take on board your situation be it an emergency or not. On my last visit to SAH Newtown, Dr Hamish was a vet I had not met prior to this visit. I was not disappointed. In fact his attention to detail was very reassuring, thinking outside the box when assessing my dogs health conditions. This practice ticks all the boxes for me. Colin

Negative experience: Very disappointing experience – unprofessional and uncaring staff I had a very upsetting experience at Sydney Animal Hospitals. From the start, the front desk staff were rude and unprofessional. When I called to cancel an appointment, the receptionist cut me off while I was speaking and ended the conversation with a dismissive "that’s fine." No politeness, no customer care. More importantly, they appear to have poor record-keeping. I had my dog in for teeth cleaning and grooming. Due to his anxiety, he needed to be sedated. The vet contacted me personally that day and kindly suggested doing my dog's yearly vaccination while he was under. I appreciated this and agreed. I paid $1700 for the procedure and assumed everything was completed — including the vaccination. One month later, they called me saying my dog was due for his yearly vaccination, with no mention or record of it already being done. When I contacted them to clarify, they had no idea and said they would check. Hours later, they called back offering me the vaccine at half price. I declined — because I believe giving the vaccine again would risk double vaccination, which is dangerous. This shows a serious lack of professionalism and responsibility. Overall, this clinic feels cold, disorganized, and more interested in money than the wellbeing of animals. The staff lack empathy and experience, and I left feeling that my pet's safety was at risk. I will not be returning, and I do not recommend this clinic to other pet owners.
Fantastic experience: Open on a Saturday is a big tick, to get an appointment within 2 hrs, a bigger tick, lovely and knowledgable vet in Liam, even bigger tick and put claim thru to pet insurance right after appointment (so we only had to pay gap) huge tick!

Fantastic experience: From start to finish I was so supported .. i was given clear information about our fur babies needs and diagnosis.. Marley was given treats and water during the consultation and was so welcomed it was lovely.. Fantastic experience: Very friendly and relaxed, great environment for a local vet. The vet was very thorough and answered all our first puppy questions. Update: 2 years on and we’ve still not had a bad experience here yet. The front desk team and veterinarians always seem to light up when they see a patient come in and they show genuine compassion and care for them. We’ve gotten great value out of the lifetime vaccination program they offer and they’re very helpful with reminders. He gets a free checkup and vaccination boosters every year for life.

Fantastic experience: Choosing a new vet is a big deal when you move cities, But we could not have been happier and more confident after our recent experience at the Newtown branch of Sydney animal hospitals. Vivien was highly professional, but also kind and gentle With Hugo, our senior groodle. She won over Hugo’s confidence as well, and ours by articulating a practical treatment plan for his flareup of chronic ear issues. No unnecessary tests … just straight to achieving outcomes. Fantastic experience: Sydney Animal Hospital team were fantastic with my American pocket bulldog Hera. She needed BOAS surgery to help her breathe - they were responsive, interested, caring and flexible. They loved Hera and she loved them. Her surgery went very well and she is recovering beautifully. Fantastic experience: I cannot rate the team at SAH Newtown highly enough. We switched to this vet after an “out of hours” emergency with our first dog and are so glad we did! They’re kind, caring, professional and fantastic with both our dogs. Both Cinnamon and Burrito (our dogs) have had surgery here and as a bit of a nervous owner the team did a fantastic job of keeping me calm and informed, and are very on top of following up post surgery. Even if we move to another part of Sydney we’ll still travel to come back to this vet, and not just because of the lifetime vaccinations initiative! Having a vet clinic and their staff care as much as SAH does, is such a comfort, especially when surgery is involved. Cannot recommend them highly enough!! 6/5 stars!

Fantastic experience: So happy we found this vet after booking a same-day vaccination for our golden retriever, Charlie. The place was super clean and easy to get to, with parking right outside. The reception was all really friendly, and Charlie was looked after by Zoe, who was so kind and thorough. Zoe was also thankfully proactive when she recommended additional vaccines for our dog. We were left feeling really satisfied with our experience and we could say the same for our rescue golden retriever. Thank you again to the amazing doctors and nurses. Fantastic experience: I’m never going to a different vet again! I have a two year old tabby male named Pickles who was struggling to go to the bathroom one evening and started wailing uncontrollably. Being nearly 11pm at night, I didn’t know what to do. I started scouring the internet to try and get a vet appointment as quick as possible to no avail. I finally clicked on the fifth vet that came up and I tried to book him in for the next day. I entered suspected UTI in additional comments and was met with a pop up on my screen saying a UTI could be life threatening in cats and to please call their emergency number. I had no idea what Pickles was experiencing was potentially life threatening, so I called and they answered first ring. Regardless that they closed at 11pm, they instructed me to get there as soon as possible. A two night stay and one procedure later Pickles had a urinary block that could have proven fatal if left for another night. The staff stayed late to make sure he got the best care and was relieved of his block as soon as possible. I could not thank them enough for their constant care. They called me with constant updates, and are checking in on him still three days after returning home. This is the best vet in the inner west and I’m forever grateful for the entire team. Tysm x

Fantastic experience: Fantastic practice, everyone who works there is incredibly lovely and incredibly good at their jobs. One of my cats is very sick and has received excellent care here. They’re really good around communicating options and referring on to specialists where needed. They have also been great around accommodating my disability (my support worker takes my cats in and then the vet calls me). Literally better than my own doctors!! Highly recommend

Very high consult fee, do minimal treatment to make you come back for another consult and still charge you more than x10 what you can get at store. Negative experience: Total money grab. Will only for small quantities so you have to keep coming back and charging you $30 just for the peice of paper so you can buy it cheaper online. Never buy any medicine from them. Completely overprice and small.

Fantastic experience: Took my 6 month old puppy in today for his first vet visit since getting him two weeks ago, I am not too sure of his past or what sort of vaccinations he has or hasn’t received. The vet who looked after him today gave us an amazing experience and made it all very easy and straightforward. We did a vaccination that covers him for the whole year (not including his booster shot due in two weeks) because he is over 4 months old and this made me super happy as I thought I would have to do the 3 vaccines over the course of a few months to get pup up to scratch. Receptionist was amazing , so soft spoken and well mannered you can clearly tell she absolutely adores animals and made my boy feel so special :) super glad to say I have found my go to vet and if I ever move out of the area I will be looking for a SAH near me ! Thanks again, see you in two weeks for my little guys booster shot !

Fantastic experience: We have been coming to Sydney Animal Hospitals for many years and have always had fantastic support. Our beloved cat of 12 years was treated with the upmost care and kindness by Felicity Spicer at the Stanmore clinic up until her heartbreaking passing due to an untreatable condition. When she was put to sleep the staff were very kind and gentle, understanding the gravity of the situation. Two years on, our new rescue kitten was treated by a vet by the name of Zoe (I don’t know her last name!) at the Erskineville clinic. She was incredibly helpful and we left with all of our concerns answered. We are glad that future check ups will be in the company of Zoe as she was professional and caring, having understood the complexity of our kitten’s needs. The reception team and vet nurses are also kind and helpful. The love for animals is clear at this practice. Thanks again ❤️

Positive experience: Sydney Animal hospital, located in Erskineville village, is a very friendly and caring practice. My dog has been treated by several of the practice’s vets and all have been responsive and thoughtful. Their web booking system with DM follow ups is also a great feature I highly recommend the practice to any pet owner.

Negative experience: Very disappointed with this Vet. Came in last week at 22:30 with my dog who had difficulty of breathing. Vet looked at him for 5min told me "DO you know what time is it?" "We are closing soo,you better go SASH Emergency hospital that is open 24h. Charged me $137 for telling me to go somewhere else. Not human at all.

Negative experience: Unfortunately, I've now had numerous poor experiences here which has pushed me to write a negative review. If it were one instance or one member of staff then I would just put it down to a bad day, we all have them. At Christmas I put both of my cats into board and was given a quote (which I signed) when I dropped them off. I had booked for them to share a cage as the older one (nearly 19) depended on the younger which I had discussed at the time of booking. On my return (very jetlagged) I was charged an extra $520, which i paid. A few days later I decided to question this. When I called the practice manager, she said that I'd been quoted incorrectly and that the cats had been put in separate cages. I asked her to find the quote, which she did. She reluctantly agreed to refund the difference, but when I checked, had only refunded $400. I called back, and again she reluctantly agreed to refunded the agreed amount. In April, my elderly cat fell ill and I took her as an emergency to the practice. The young vet ran bloods, examined her and said one of her kidneys was extremely enlarged and that she couldn't feel the other (bear in mind that this is a19 year old cat). I was told to wait in the waiting room with her while the bloods were processed. The waiting room was empty and she was distressed, knowing that this was possible the last time I would be spending with her, I took her out of the cage and held her, at which point I was scolded by the vet nurse and told to put her back in the cage. The vet then gave me the option to either leave her at the practice until they could book her with an ultrasonographer in a couple of days, at a cost of around $7,000 or take her to SASH. I paid the $500 bill, requested a copy of the blood tests and took her to SASH, where another young vet gave me exactly the same options and another $500 bill. Luckily, I have a number of friends who are vets interstate and were able to give me advice based on the blood results. This was now 12am, having originally brought her in at 7.30pm. The analogy three of my veterinary friends gave me was that if she were a human with those results, she would require dialysis and a kidney transplant, regardless of the diagnosis, and that the most humane thing was to put her to sleep. At no point was I offered this option. Anyone who's ever had to have a pet put to sleep knows how hard this decision is, even when counselled by a vet that this is the kindest option. The following day, wracked with guilt, but glad I hadn't left her alone before making the decision to put her down, I called and asked to speak to a more senior vet. He was concerned that I'd not been given the option of euthanasia and agreed that her blood results indicated that her kidneys would not have been able to recover but said that these conversations were difficult for vets to have! As a hospital consultant myself, I know only too well what it is to have a difficult conversation, but veterinary euthanasia is part of their bread and butter. The last straw was today, when I tried to book my remaining cat in to board. They were unable to find my details, despite having numerous bookings and email correspondence with them previously. When they finally found her, she was under my ex-spouse's details who has never paid any vet bills, which they refused to remove. Talk about rubbing salt into a wound... they did however give me his new address, so much for client confidentiality.

Fantastic experience: I took our 17yo cat to be euthanised 12/9/24. Newtown staff were all amazing from beginning to end. The lady I spoke with on the phone was extremely compassionate and sounded like she felt our pain and explained we could go in whenever we were ready. The nurse who administered final anaesthetic said she had vaccinated our cat many years ago, I felt like our cat was in familiar hands for her final moment. The nurse softly explained the quick process, administered, and within seconds our cat had peacefully passed. Process took maybe 10 minutes from check-in at reception to final injection, longer if you would like private time during and after. I was able to present for every last minute. Cost under $280 for euthanasia.

Fantastic experience: Overall a brilliant vet, reasonably priced and the veterinarian's truly care for your animals. I recently took my cat there and she was treated by a superb veterinarian named Zoe who assisted me with treating my cat. She was thorough in investigating exactly what the problem was, she honestly visited every possibility that was causing the issue and provided in depth and sound advice that was logical and made sense to me. She translated veterinarian terminology into a digestible form so I could best understand what had happened and why it had been caused. She then went on to provide a course of medication, both advising me on a few different options, and what each option entailed, such as the side effects, risks and benefits of each course of action. Zoe's rigour in the case of my per. demonstrates a care for animals, a clear passion for her work and a high intellectual capacity to deal with your animals health issues. Most of all my cat is getting better so thank you to Zoe and Sydney animal hospital. I would highly recommend this clinic.

Fantastic experience: My dog underwent a dental clean at SAH Newtown, recently. Every part of the procedure was clearly explained by Dr Zoe on drop-off and further information about how things went were delivered on pick-up. Fantastic experience: Went in to get Lindsay checked for a lump. Totally lost the lump. Couldn't find it! Zoe found it within about a minute, took one of the best samples of a lump I've seen (and unfortunately I've seen a few) and was happy to do inspect the sample later today and just call in the results. Gave Lindsay so many treats that instead of freaking out about the needle she was just keen to do another 'good dog sit' to get another treat! Zoe is an excellent vet - but they're all excellent vets at this place. But the way she found the lump and got the sample was just a bit six stars and deserved a google review. Great vet.

Fantastic experience: We took our 1 year old cavalier here after accidentally eating sultanas! It was a late evening trip here as our normal vet had closed for the night. After our visit here, we have officially changed vets! The nurses and vets are amazing! They gave us multiple options, prices were upfront, very gentle and caring. The clinic itself is very calm and inviting. The staff are very thorough but very quick. Other clinics seem a bit busy and full-on but here, it was busy but the environment was calm! Our cat Eddie became suddenly very unwell on Monday evening, and the team at Sydney Animal Hospitals could not have been more thorough and attentive. Positive experience: I cannot fault the care and attention that my pet's receive at the Newtown Animal Hospital, however recently I am having to constantly having to follow up with pet insurance claims. I have provided this feedback to the reception staff who I think are also nurses and I am sure they are very busy (they are always kind and patient). I'm not sure if they have professional receptionists anymore which not only places a strain on the nursing staff but also reduces customer service.
Fantastic experience: Life saver! We were totally overwhelmed by our new puppy, but Kylie, our puppy class instructor, saved the day!! Not only our dog stopped chewing my pants, he's got a lot calmer after Kylie told me how to play with him and train him properly. Thank you Kylie for your time and help!

Fantastic experience: We found ourselves at Sydney Animal Hospital Newtown wanting a second opinion after our regular vet at the time was unable to get to the bottom of our boys skin issues, they prescribed him topical creams, injections and different types of antibiotics but things were getting worse. Dr Alpha asked us the right questions and she suspected our boy had diabetes which was confirmed the following day. Dr Alpha was extremely compassionate, and very thorough in our debrief. Dr Alpha was also very helpful in working with us to consult with a diabetes specialist in Melbourne to move him to a new insulin which is now day 3 for us, but it has been such a game changer for all of us. Most recently we've finally gotten to the bottom of his skin issues and Dr Alpha was prepared with a treatment for what is known as a very rare disease. This could not have been more timely, as coincidentally his health started to decline but we were able to jump straight into a treatment plan. It is a long journey ahead, but we are extremely thankful for Dr Alphas continued proactive care for Toro.

Fantastic experience: This is my second time at this clinic and first time seeing Dr Ian Hayes, who was incredibly helpful. He was patient and calm and knew pretty quickly exactly what needed to be done to treat my dog. I could tell he was highly experienced and we were in good hands. He was thorough in explaining the treatment plan and was happy to spend time answering questions. I’ll definitely go back to see Dr Hayes again for any future visits!

Negative experience: Terrible service. I made booking for a vaccine + consultation and when we turned up they said they don’t accept new customer for vaccine. Need for full consultation and the price of vaccine + consultation got double. And I was asked to come back about 1 hr and 40 min later. I called to cancel as I find other vet who will just charge $129. And guess what! They did not have my booking to cancel! I felt very insulted.
Fantastic experience: Dr Ian Hayes, was so amazing with my pooch. He made her airway surgery so seamless. I’ve never felt more comfortable leaving my precious Frankie in the hands of a clinic. Couldn’t recommend highly enough. All the staff are lovely especially Georgia.

Fantastic experience: I had to take my cat to a new vet and i chose Sydney Animal Hospital Newtown. My cat had a vaccination and a check and it showed she needed possible teeth extraction and definitely a polish and clean of her teeth. I have never had to put my cat in a vet and leave her and have her go under anesthesia so naturally i was concerned. The staff and vets were professional, knowledgeable, kind and caring and explained the whole process to me. My cat woke safely and i was rang immediately. Thank you so much for looking after my cat and cleaning all her teeth, in the end they did not need to be extracted! I was also recommended some dental products but i didn't feel pressured to buy them there at the vet which i really appreciate, as we all know sometimes they can be more costly at the vets compared to online, so thank you for being real and allowing me to make the most financially helping choice. Fantastic experience: Dr Shani Gomez is an *exceptional* vet and the entire staff is so incredibly nice and supportive. Fantastic experience: I brought my dog Duke in as an emergency because he couldn’t breathe and was choking. The vets and nurses dropped everything to take care of him immediately, determined he had strip of rib causing a blockage and because of their prompt and expert action, Duke is alive and well (but still greedy for food). Can’t thank them enough.

Fantastic experience: We love the team at SAH Newtown! Dr Bas and Dr Shani take such incredibly good care of our two cats, who are not the biggest fans of going to the vet, and are so patient and generous with their time. They are so thorough and genuinely care about your pets and will even call to follow up on them after they've visited the clinic. I can be a bit of a nervous pet owner sometimes, and Bas and Shani take the time to answer all questions and never try to rush you out the door. Fantastic experience: Staff are always so caring and professional! I feel at ease bringing my fur baby in knowing she will receive only the best care when she’s in poor health. It’s so nice to know that the staff even miss my girl when she leaves boarding. I know she gets extra special attention, pats and cuddles while I’m away so I never have to worry about her being lonely. Fantastic experience: Our beautiful dog has been going to Erskineville Sydney Animal Hospital since she was a puppy, she loves going to the vet because of the wonderful and caring vets, nurses and staff that work there. Dr Bas is the absolute best. We wouldn't go anywhere else.
