Fantastic experience: They have been wonderful and effective at treating our animals for nearly ten years. Very wide and diverse range of specialists and able to have some truly remarkable impacts

Fantastic experience: Everyone there was great , and I appreciated that they could triage/assess my cat and that I wouldn’t be charged if seeing a vet wasn't needed. I also thought it was great that I could give details on a call ahead and everything was sorted when I got there.

Fantastic experience: Our Golden Retreiver visited Sash recently. The staff there are extremely professional and genuinely caring for both animal patient and human parent. We were given options, continually advised of cost and potential risk of each proposed pathway for recovery. All avenues were taken to eliminate the issue before recommending a surgical procedure. The eventual procedure was very successful. The facility is as sophisticated and as clean as a human hospital. The staff and vets have an excellent system of communication before, during and post procedure. Thanks front desk staff, behind the scenes team and Dr Sophie at SASH Tuggerah and North Ryde. Reggie sends his love.

Fantastic experience: We have needed to visit SASH on two occasions. Both times staff communicated clearly what was happening and what they were doing. I felt that my pets were in good hands.

Positive experience: This is a review for the avian/exotics section, since I have only ever brought birds to SASH North Ryde. I've had very positive experiences with the avian/exotics team when I've visited over the past few years. They were friendly and knowledgeable and they treated my birds well. One staff member even caught a particularly obscure problem that would not have been easy to recognise. I think the cost of seeing a vet at SASH is reasonable also, which is important in a cost of living crisis. I'm willing to travel quite a distance to go to SASH because of this (the local vet has not treated my birds well and indulges in obvious price gouging). My one complaint, if you could call it that, is that the emergency department did not have any avian specialists on hand when I visited which is unfortunate. I understand that birds/exotics are probably a lot less commonly encountered at emergency, but if the emergency is dire then second hand knowledge won't cut it. Birds tend to go downhill fast when things are bad. Luckily my bird's issue was fairly straight forward and I had previous experience with what was wrong. The vet I saw in emergency was extremely friendly, treated my bird with care and kindness and did her best. She was genuinely lovely, which is important in a stressful situation like visiting for emergency care. She called an avian expert on the phone to discuss the situation, but it took quite a while. I worry that in an emergency where real urgent action is needed this wouldn't be good. Other than that, I can highly recommend SASH North Ryde for regular veterinary care of parrots.

Hi Dom,

Thanks for providing such constructive feedback to us and entrusting us to care for your birds.

It is true that avian specialists in NSW are particularly rare. In fact, there are currently only 2 in the state that specialise specifically in birds - Dr Mel Cowan and Dr Akshata Taggers. As hard as they work, between the two of them, they are unable to run a 24/7 service. We are training more avian specialists, but as you can imagine, this is a lengthy process.

Positive experience: The staff at SASH were great and super friendly. My poor cat Momo had a blockage attack at 11pm on a Saturday night, no one wants to need to go but SASH was there and open when we needed them! They helped us out and we managed to get Momo home the same night. Thank you so much for your help

Fantastic experience: 1. the initial call guided us to the least busy facility - which happily was the one closest to us. 2. the staff were uniformly kind and welcoming - not all your competitors have been in the past 3. our dog was comfortable to be led away for triage and seemed unstressed on his return - again showing lovely empathy for his welfare as well as our concerns. 4. The specialist was excellent - clear in explanation of the diagnosis and prognosis, clear in presentation of options, patient with our questions and open about similar issue with her own dog., despite the late hour. >5. huge appreciation and thanks to all staff, and respect for the care behind the logistics that helped us, and give the staff the best opportunity to take care of our dog and ourselves.

Fantastic experience: Our 2 year old puppy was suffering from heatstroke. The team at SASH emergency met us and took Daisy straight through for immediate assessment. They cared for her in the ICU overnight. The communication, follow up and care of our girl was amazing, beyond none. We will never be able to thank the team enough.

Negative experience: Our dog underwent knee surgery by a surgeon based at SASH North Ryde. When we went to bring him home we noticed his leg was very swollen and extensive bruising over all of his leg. Some swelling and localised bruising can occur after knee surgery but this was extreme as if he had been dropped or had substantial bleeding during surgery. The surgeon said it was normal but that didn't make sense. A few days later the surgical wound opened up. We requested an urgent review but had to wait 48hrs. The surgeon told us it was nothing to worry about but we said the open wound was an infection risk. He refused to do anything. Five days later we had to rush our dog back to hospital as there was blood and pus gushing from the wound. He had developed an abscess and required hospital treatment. We requested a different surgeon at a different SASH hospital who managed the infection correctly. Three months later the bruising started to resolve, our dog had delayed wound and bone healing and required corrective surgery. The first surgeon had no interest in caring for our dog. There are serious questions over the cause of the extensive bruising, why a surgeon would refuse to manage an obvious wound problem that turned into a potentially life threatening condition. We are pursuing a formal investigation into the actions of the first surgeon. Don't trust the surgeon at SASH North Ryde. Go anywhere else unless you want to risk the life of your fur kids.

Fantastic experience: I have been a mini-dachshund pet owner for many years, in 4 different countries, but this little girl was my first adopted doggie whom I didn't have since a pup, so she was new to me. I needed urgent care for her, and your services and staff were kind, friendly, helpful and compasionate and made me feel calmed and looked after; and additionally I even got a hot chocolate in the waiting.

Caitlin also spoke to me via phone a little later as I wasn't sure that the process I was attempting to perform with Bailey was correct and her reassurance was very helpful.

Positive experience: All staff were lovely. Even as a new patient, they knew my bird, even when not directly dealing with him. The professionalism was top tier. The vet was not pushy of certain treatments. She heard me and my deliberating out and let me come to my own decisions in my own time. Prices are steep though.

Fantastic experience: The focus of the staff at SASH is unwaveringly on the animals' welfare. They are genuinely warm, comforting and caring to animals and owners alike. The ICU vets and nurses are knowledgeable, understanding and simply amazing! They even took the time to send photos of our beloved dog at 2am in the morning so we can be at ease with his state of well-being. The admin staff are equally wonderful, always helpful and considerate with the paperwork and finances. Our family are in awe and so appreciative of SASH and cannot praise them highly enough!

Fantastic experience: Our dog required a CT scan followed by surgery to remove a grass seed, and from start to finish the experience was excellent. Dr Amy was kind, calm, and extremely knowledgeable, taking the time to explain each step and making us feel confident our dog was in the best hands. The nursing staff kept us updated with notes and even a lovely photo. At discharge, everything was clearly and thoroughly explained, leaving us feeling reassured and well prepared for recovery at home. We couldn’t have asked for better care and would highly recommend Dr Amy and the SASH team

Fantastic experience: Dr Carrie and Dr Emma gave us hope when our previous vets simply kept saying "complications" from the dental surgery that they performed (where they removed 12 of his teeth, unbeknownst to us - we were told it be 1-2 teeth). Dr Carrie and Dr Emma didn't give up on our boy Jasper. Without their knowledge and skill, we wouldn't have been able to bring him home. Dr Carrie listened to Jasper's story, from GI troubles at 2 years of age, to weakness in his hind legs, right up to his reaction to the dental surgery that happened a fews days before we brought him to SASH. From this she shortlisted 5 possible diagnoses based on his symptoms, the key one being that his BGL kept dropping after the surgery. In the end, Jasper was diagnosed with Atypical Addisons disease and now has to have a steroid everyday, but that's all it took, one tablet twice a day and he is now home and steadily recovering from the addisonian crisis. These incredible people at SASH didn't give up on our boy. We are beyond grateful for Dr Carrie, Dr Emma and the nurses that cared for our baby boy night and day. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. ❤️❤️❤️

Fantastic experience: Took my kitten here last night after an emergency. We had nurse Jessica who was absolutely fantastic, 10/10. She handled the situation with proper care and sought out necessary help from 3 vets. She was attentive and explained the situation in depth to me and always listened whilst answering my questions. Couldn’t have gotten better care here. The ladies at reception were also super helpful and kind.

Fantastic experience: Dr Ben Chu was such a great first point of contact in emergency, he was very reassuring, empathetic and thorough in his information. we really appreciated his service which helped us to make an informed decision on the care we wanted for our dog. Sash kept in constant contact with us which was very reassuring and kept anxious thoughts at bay. We appreciated the level of accuracy the surgeons had at providing care for our dog. Our vet nurse was very attentive to our dog, constantly giving her cuddles and watching out for her. We greatly appreciated all the care given and constant contact from the whole crew at Sash North Ryde.

Fantastic experience: Dr Lucy was very knowledgeable and listened to our concerns about Bon. All the staff listened and took us seriously when we warned them prior to coming in for Bon's appointment regarding the fact that Bon is a reactive girl. All the staff from the reception staff, nurses through to Dr Lucy did everything at Bon's pace and did not encroach her space. The reception staff even stepped in to make sure Bon had distance and space between her and another family with small children that had just come out of a consultation. All the Staff at SASH Nth Ryde & SASH Tuggerah where Bon is normally seen are amazing.

Although she hasn't rung me back with the results of my birds blood test that was to be available within a couple of days.

Fantastic experience: Dr Courtney from Dermatology was fantastic. After years of battling my dog’s terrible skin condition I had pretty much lost hope. However I was impressed with SASH from start to finish. The clinic was responsive to my initial phone inquiry and when we arrived we were promptly seen to. Dr Courtney had clearly read our pet’s extensive treatment history before we walked in, and she treated us and our pet with respect and care. She was thorough and transparent about a treatment plan. We immediately felt reassured we were in great hands. Three days in and the treatment is already making a difference. We are very grateful. The cost of the care is definitely worth it.

Fantastic experience: We are incredibly grateful to the team at SASH for saving our cat Memow’s life. We brought Memow in as an emergency on Christmas Day in a critical condition. The situation was terrifying for us, but from the very first night, the care we received was exceptional. Dr Dem looked after Memow during that first crucial night, and we truly believe her calm, decisive and skilled treatment was life-saving. We will always be thankful for what she did at that critical moment. Over the following days, Dr Amy continued his care with great professionalism, patience and compassion. She guided us through Memow’s recovery, kept us well informed, and ensured he received the best possible treatment as he stabilised and improved. Today, Memow has made a full recovery and is back to his happy, energetic self. This outcome would not have been possible without the dedication and expertise of the SASH emergency and critical care team. Thank you to everyone at SASH — especially Dr Dem and Dr Amy — for giving our family more time with a cat we love dearly. We will never forget what you did for us.

Negative experience: This place lost us forever. We took our dog there at midnight because he’s been having severe diarrhea for over 20 episodes. We waited for three hours, no blood test, no x-ray, no ultrasound…not even mentioned possible treatment options. Endless waiting time. Finally my dog got discharged with a shot and diet recommendation. That’s it. 20mins later he started to having diarrhea with blood, large amount of blood. We took him back immediately. And he’s even bleeding when standing. He’s scared and tired so we let him lying on the seats in waiting area. We were SUPER worried and I told the receptionist he’s been bleeding. 10mins later the staff came in, blaming us for letting the dog on the seats. No single word from the doctor. So we left this place. Never come back again. I could rate a 0 star if there is an option.

Fantastic experience: Had to visit on NY, the staff at reception were extremely nice. The vet I went to see explained everything in a way I could understand as well as educated me (I thought my cat dislocated its shoulder but was informed this cannot happen and its a muscular problem). Did not wait too long either. The place is clean as well. They have a self serve coffee station and a vending machine available. They are also affordable and do not charge the public holiday rates which is great news as vetcare can become so costly on public holidays (normally 15% surcharge).

Fantastic experience: Boxing Day, of all days, my cavie decided that she really needed to get gastritis. The team at SASH were amazing, they took my poorly, floppy pup in quickly, she got a full work up, fluids and far too much love. I got lots of updates via text and phone calls. The nurses, doctors and front office staff were all amazing (especially as I completely lost composure!) the facilities made me jealous, I would give an arm to have equipment like that to work with! I cannot thank SASH north Ryde enough. Pup tax attached

Fantastic experience: Chrissy day, of all days and our caique parrot Batman, woke up with a very yukky eye. With it being Chrissy day, most vets are shut! So we made our way to SASH at Ryde and I can’t thank them enough, for sacrificing their Christmas Day, to help all the animals, who weren’t well. ❤️ The receptionists were kind & friendly and Georgia, our vet, was unbelievably kind, gentle and made Batman feel as comfortable as she could, while examining him. It’s less than 24hrs and the medicines, given to Batman, have already made us see, such an improvement in his personality. Which means they are working and he’s on his way to getting better. I don’t know what we would have done, if SASH wasn’t open. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou ❤️❤️❤️ Have included a pic of what Batman’s eye was looking like, before we came to SASH. Would highly recommend SASH

Fantastic experience: Very caring and expert staff; we turned up on a Wednesday evening after my dog was bitten by a bee or other insect. He was swiftly seen - although not at the expense of other animals (a cat that had been born by a paralysis tick, and was successfully and quickly treated) - and we were treated so kindly and professionally. I’m so grateful to have SASH right down the road (although hoping not to see them again!)

He wouldn't let me take it out myself and I didn't want to break the tip still inside So I took him so SASH and that was the best decision! The team was fantastic, it was very good vibes and as peaceful as emergency can get! He got sedated, got the thorn safely removed and I laughed all day at my drunk goofy dog! Thank you so much to the team and Emma the vet who saw him (within 10min after arrival) I saved the address on Google Maps for future use ahaha

Negative experience: I am very disappointed with my experience at SASH Pet Emergency. Before going in, I called to confirm that they were able to see and treat birds, and was reassured that they could. Based on this confirmation, I waited almost three hours in the emergency room (from 7pm to 10pm) with my very sick bird. However, after the long wait, I was told that nothing could be done, no tests were available on-site, and even if they booked me another consultation, they would still need to send samples out and could not provide any results the same day. Despite receiving no examination, no tests, and no useful guidance, I was charged $380 and asked to take my bird home and return another day. This was extremely frustrating and felt misleading, especially after the phone confirmation that they could help. To make things worse, I later went to another veterinary hospital where my bird received proper examination, testing, and treatment on the same day. This clearly shows that timely care was possible—just not at SASH. For an emergency hospital, this level of triage, communication, and support is unacceptable. I hope SASH reviews its processes so other clients do not go through the same distressing experience.

Fantastic experience: The whole experience, from arrival to leaving was pleasant and I do love the area for cats. As my girl is nervous easy so having that area was perfect. Everyone was friendly and understanding, treating my girl (my nervous cat Callie), with respect and understanding treating her with respect. Thank you all so much! Highly recommend. They treat your furry family member like a member of your family and not like they’re ’just a pet’.

Fantastic experience: The team at SASH North Ryde are amazing. The Vets we've dealt with are so caring for you and your pet, and understand that they're a part of your family. Dr Phil in Cardiology and Dr Rajan in emergency were both so forthcoming with all the options for our dog, and made a difficult situation a little easier to understand and deal with.

Fantastic experience: We recently had wonderful service from Jess and Tracy at the front desk. Dr. Julie Kavanagh (Cardiologist) was incredibly thorough and patient in explaining her findings and concerns on the consultation and very thorough with her explanation of her findings on the heart scan. We left SASH with a great understanding of our beloved Penny's heart condition and were relieved to know that she does not currently require medication to manage the diagnosed condition. The nurses, intern and resident on duty were all very accommodating and hospitable while showing kindness and understanding to us and Penny.

Fantastic experience: I can’t speak highly enough of the team at SASH North Ryde. My dog Darcy recently needed urgent care @ 5AM on a Saturday morning and from the initial pre-triage to the moment we arrived, the staff (from triage, nursing, reception, vet) showed exceptional professionalism and calmness in what was a very stressful situation. They kept me updated at every step and explained everything clearly. The team was not only friendly and compassionate with Darcy, but also incredibly supportive during the whole process. I also appreciated how quickly they communicated with our regular vet. Thank you to the entire SASH North Ryde team for taking such wonderful care of Darcy. Your expertise, kindness, and professionalism made an incredibly difficult moment so much easier. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: SASH North Ryde were excellent. We found a litter of newborn abandoned kittens late in the night. Called SASH who were excellent in providing us advice and a bottle and formula so we could feed them, they will hopefully be okay. Thanks to the nurse team and Dr Chris.

Positive experience: I went to SASH as my dog was vomiting blood. The triage experience was straight forward and they saw my dog within approx. 20mins. However, the consult in ED definitely felt rushed, vet talking really quickly and the price is extremely high for both the consult and admission/overnight stay (where insurance became extremely helpful) - which is why I don’t rate 5/5. But the experience once my dog was admitted into internal medicine and cared for by Vet Dr. Stephanie Shield, was easily 5/5! Stephanie was calling me regularly to update me on my dog’s condition and plan, very transparent, clear communication and so obviously compassionate. She explained things so they were easy to understand and always welcomed questions. They have a Client Liason Officer called Jaya who visited the dogs in hospital and sent me photos of my dog during his admission, assuring me he was being well cared for. It was better than a human hospital experience! So for these reasons I am extremely happy with our experience at SASH!

They welcomed questions and phone calls at any time, and provided valuable advice during the most vulnerable moments. I had full trust and confidence in leaving my pet in their hands. Thank you very much for your professionalism, empathy and compassionate care!

Fantastic experience: Our visit was excellent. The staff were wonderful and treatment was 1st hand. There was an issue with the appointment at first but the staff sorted it out and we were able to see a vet on the day. They could not have been any more helpful and caring. The information and advise was clear and easy to understand.

Negative experience: Update: 20/11. Added a photo of presurgery. VetBoard now looking at our complaint. Original Post Our beloved pet, Hearty, was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma with focal squamous differentiation — a stage 1 cancer that, as we understood, carried a good chance of recovery with appropriate treatment. Following this diagnosis, we were referred to SASH for specialist care. After meeting with the surgical oncologist, we also spoke with the radiation specialist, who advised that if we proceeded with radiation first, Hearty might have approximately six months before the cancer could return, and that surgery would no longer be possible afterward. This information influenced our decision to go ahead with surgery instead of radiation. Before the surgery, I specifically emailed the surgical oncologist to inform them that Hearty was reactive to Methadone. The surgeon replied to confirm that this information had been communicated to the team looking after Hearty. After the surgery, when we arrived to collect Hearty and were handed the invoice, I noticed that it listed four doses of Methadone. I was extremely surprised and distressed to see this, as I had previously advised that Hearty was reactive to that medication and had understood that the care team was aware of this. When we brought Hearty home, the next 30 hours were the most heartbreaking and stressful hours of my life. From around 9 PM on the day of surgery, I wrote multiple emails to the surgical oncologist describing Hearty’s condition, and I also shared videos to illustrate his state. I did not receive any response. Before the surgery, as part of estimates, we were informed that the surgeon was available 24x7. However, when I called SASH after receiving no reply, I was informed that the surgeon was away for the weekend. This left me confused and anxious, as I was not sure why surgery had been scheduled on a Thursday if the surgeon would be unavailable over the weekend. Later that evening, at 8:40 PM on 11th October, I called the emergency department and asked to be connected to the on-duty surgeon. The emergency staff took my details and advised that they would contact the surgeon and get back to me. I did not hear back, so I called again. This time, the surgeon instructed the emergency department to advise me to post a video of Hearty’s condition. The on-duty surgeon later called and advised that Hearty’s symptoms were normal post-surgery symptoms and that it was not necessary to bring him into the emergency department unless he started bleeding heavily. While this provided some reassurance, the instructions still left me extremely anxious and stressed as I monitored Hearty’s condition at home. Hearty’s condition was deteriorating rapidly, and we felt distressed, deeply depressed, and heartbroken, experiencing each hour as if we were dying alongside him. In the treatment discussions and documentation provided to us, I do not recall being made aware of any possibility that Hearty might not survive the surgery. From my perspective as a pet owner, I believed the procedure carried no risk of death, and that understanding played a major role in our decision to proceed. Had I known that there was any chance of such an outcome, I would have reconsidered. Based on our experience, I would strongly advise any pet owner visiting the oncology department at SASH North Ryde to ask the surgical oncologist explicitly about any risk that their pet might not survive the surgery, so that you can make a fully informed decision. I share this experience to help other pet owners make fully informed decisions, to ask detailed questions about treatment options, risks, and post-surgery care, and to ensure that families are prepared for every possibility. This review reflects my personal experience, observations, and emotions, shared honestly to help others navigate these difficult decisions. I Love you Hearty, I miss you 24x7. Remember, I loved you more than your human siblings. I am so sorry hearty for everything. I was helpless... really helpless

We are very sorry for the loss of Hearty and recognise how painful this has been for you.

Your concerns were taken seriously and were independently reviewed by the Veterinary Practitioners Board of NSW. After a thorough investigation, the Board dismissed the complaint and found that Hearty’s care met professional standards.

While this doesn’t ease the grief of losing a much‑loved pet, we hope it provides some reassurance about the care Hearty received. Our condolences remain with you and your family.

Fantastic experience: My kelpie Rex had major heart issues a year ago & required open heart bypass surgery, left heart chamber was leaking into his lungs. His right heart chamber recently started leaking liquid into his stomach. So his SASH Cardiologist recommended ER examinations. SASH ER are animal life savers! I cannot praise them enough. Thank you all so very much (every visit & Rex has required many) to SASH has been truly above & beyond excellent.

Fantastic experience: Dr Tatiana was lovely, she gave me a very detailed explanation of the problem and why she chose the treatment. She also gave me very good instructions on how to put ear drops in, and was very conscious that I needed to do this as a vision impaired person. Thank you, excellent service.

Fantastic experience: My GSD had been in Emergency in September for a heart procedure so when she was not well again I brought her to Sash for a vet to check her and give me much needed reassurance. They confirmed her heart was good and advised what to do for her pain. The team always make you feel your pet is very important and puts your mind at ease.

Fantastic experience: My bunny yoshi went in with a bowel obstruction and we were very close to losing him. Took him to SASH and he was given medical intervention then a surgery which he managed to get through like a trooper. The staff at sash were so caring and loving to my boy and he made it through thanks to their expertise and love for all animals. They provide daily updates with pictures and are very accomodating and willing to let you visit when you want to :) Yes they can be expensive but it is definitely worth paying for the best for your fur baby Highly recommend, special thanks to my bunnys vets Dr Orr and Dr Emily (I hope I got the names right) and his first emergency vet Dr Lauren and of course his lovely nurses. Thank you so much for saving my gorgeous fur baby.

Fantastic experience: Dr Bing is exceptional. She is thorough and careful, but also kind and attentive. I cannot rate her highly enough as a clinician and human being. We first saw her when our dog was just a puppy and have always felt reassured and in excellent hands whenever we see her. She is excellent.

Fantastic experience: The Vet looking after us is Lauren. She was polite. professional and of considerable help. The medicines she administered worked and Patch started to slowly drink and eat small amounts the next day. Happy to say that Patch no longer has a burning forehead and his eating and drinking is getting back to Normal. I am still waiting on Lauren's report.< br />Best Regards< br />David Gordon

Fantastic experience: I’d say my AA Husky is in the safest hands after going to Sash, it was so reassuring when we met Dr Barry there who examined my dog with care and provided us with a detailed list of exercises. I left with a sense of relief and knowledge, and appreciate Dr Barry’s communication throughout. Thank you ☺️

Fantastic experience: Not a place I’ll like to be all the time but the 2 times we went all the staff are caring, patient and understanding esp in super stressful situations. Our dogs got triaged very quickly even when busy to ensure pets with immediate care are required. Probably the only emergency I’ll go to as I feel like I can really trust them.

Fantastic experience: Available 24/7. The vets offer excellent support and care by listening at any time of the day or night. They’re often specialists who are thorough with their tests. I’ve even experienced a wonderful vet who proactively had my precious dog tested by another specialist whilst under the same (worrying) anesthetic which saved me money, time and ensured e we had as much info as possible. I’m relieved to be able to utilize this important service.
