Fantastic experience: Having over 30 birds means I do get to visit frequently. The vets are extremely caring of the animals and willing to give you the best advice, even if it is not good news. Whatever is best for the animal in the long run. Staff are very empathetic and respectful. Cannot recommend them enough.

Fantastic experience: I have been bringing all my feathered family to BBEVS for almost 6 years and could not appreciate and trust them more with the care of my birds. I've had pet geese, ducks, pigeons and chickens require veterinary attention and BBEVS have always gone above and beyond to give them the best care while being concious of their stress levels/needs. Some of my pets even have favourite vets that they are over the moon to see when they need a check up. BBEVS have always been professional, thorough and thoughtful. Especially when it comes to the hardest appointments where we need to say goodbye to a feathered family member. I 100% recommend bringing your pets to be seen by the team at BBEVS.

Fantastic experience: The team at Brisbane Bird and Exotics were so wonderful when helping our daughter’s sick Guinea pig Marshmallow. Sadly Marshmallow could not be saved but they helped our 10 year old daughter through what was a very challenging and sad process for anyone let alone a child. They were kind, compassionate and caring and made sure to explain everything they were doing and why. They made a difficult process so much easier. Thank you for your kindness.

Fantastic experience: This Vet is AMAZING! We took our Blue and Gold in for his first visit to this veterinary service and the staff in there took perfect care of us! ... AND our exotic bird LOL! We were so nervous for him that the whole team in here provided not only perfect care, attention and explanations for everything to do with our precious Avian Family member, they also saw to our trepidation's, nerves and worry by caring to our comfort, providing written follow-up care and detailed information for everything happening both before and after each examination point. There was NO hurry or pushy-ness, the pricing was very fair and upfront, the facility is situated in a beautifully appointed office and hospital area, not to mention their ample parking, and the team are wonderfully informed and helpful. All in all, we are absolutely certain our Nicky Macaw is in safe and caring hands.

Fantastic experience: We’ve been to BBEVS a few times now. All the vets are super sweet and very knowledgeable on all types of creatures. Negative experience: We used to have good experience here years ago but it seems the people have changed since our previous visits. Our most recent visit 3 years ago became very traumatic and very costly and what we found as biggest problem in this place was their communication. My husband took our guinea pig who was bloated. He took the day off and kids and said that we understood if she had to be put down. If there was an easy fix we would go for that if not we would prefer to euthanize. They gave my husband a list of things that could be done and the vet promised to call at lunchtime to see how the first thing went and we would decide if we continue with any other procedure. No call was received and I called later and from the way I was told things it seemed all OK but they suggested they would like to observe her longer. No cost was mentioned to me on the phone. 5 min to 6 pm I had a missed call and a voice message that she is not doing well. I tried to call back but it went to voicemail as they close at 6 pm. I then had another call in the morning when I was already at work that she is really unwell and needs to be put down. This was really sad as we communicated that my husband and kids took the day off just to be there if she needs to be put down, but instead they did lots of procedures and and then put her down without us being there. she didn't deserve such end. i have made complaint about the communication and we got a small discount. However, the business manager kept saying in email how she thoroughly read through the file, yet in all emails she kept misspelling my name - not even consistently, always it was something else than my actual name and through the whole email called my guinea pig by a wrong name so this again shows that there is no attention to detail and some of my questions were never answered or addressed along with not calling at certain time as arranged to discuss the issue which all again just highlights the whole problem of this place - poor communication and a place where the value is only money, not people and their pets. I will never go to this place or recommend it to anyone else. If you can find a different exotic vet, please visit there even if you have to travel much further it is worthwhile to avoid this place.

Fantastic experience: I visited BBEVS for the first time yesterday for a general health check up on my reptile. The team were super kind, friendly and helpful. My appointment was with Dr Jess Anderson and she was so friendly and helpful with everything! I would strongly recommend this clinic if you are looking for an exotics vet, as they are in a great location with a private car park and the staff are fantastic!

Fantastic experience: We have been extremely fortunate to have the BBEVS Clinic under the very high quality of leadership by Dr Deb Monks to look after a number of our pets for over 20 years and we cannot but highly recommend BBEVS’s well equipped and pleasantly presented clinic. The BBEVS clinic is unique in the type of unusual pets that can attend. Unfortunately since our beloved pets cannot speak, it is important and confidently reassuring that the very experienced staff are able to identify, interpret and diagnose our pets demeanour when presented. A sick pet is a very extremely stressful time not only for itself but for their human family as well and, we have always found all staff who are exceptionally well trained from when you first arrive at reception at the clinic, to, and after the consult and follow up to be very professional and genuinely compassionate, caring in a friendly and pleasant manner for both. We have always found and appreciate Dr Deb Monks to be highly experienced in her field not only for our pet but have watched them treating a wide variety of other types who attend consults at BBEVS as well at the same time. Dr Deb Monks and her team of Vets and Vet nurses have continued to operate and stay abreast in their knowledge. In fact in one instance for us she identified an unknown symptom with our pet and wrote a paper for her peers on it. Sometimes, it is not always possible to get the Vet who you may have preferred but we have always found that they closely discuss with others to ensure the highest standard of treatment is given. Recently we had a pet who was unable to attend her clinic and we were very grateful to have one of the Vets Dr Emma Sciacca being able to do house calls for some time and also to be there for our pet and us when that time came to say goodbye.

Fantastic experience: I have taken my guinea pigs to BBEVS for more than 15 years and we have received consistently outstanding care. Fantastic experience: These guys are fantastic, they are so professional and nice and about one the only place I’ve seen that take frogs. Somehow they managed to keep my frog calm and not terrified while running tests and administering medication. Which for her is unheard of.

Fantastic experience: I couldn’t rate the BBEVS team more highly! From the moment you book to the moment you leave, they are consistently professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate. They also do everything they can to make your pets visit with them as stress-free as possible. As a small animal vet myself, I know how busy vet clinics can get. Despite this, they went above and beyond yesterday to help my cockatiel Nala after a sudden car accident. Negative experience: 0 stars actually. noting that before you express your grievances with them, they will try and play the card that you were abusive to staff when you were upset, in order to invalidate and discount any honest comments and argument. I've been a veterinary professional for years, I know exotics inside and out, and yet made the mistake of trusting other industry professionals when I needed them. I won't go into detail and share my countless devastating stories; but for my other exotic carers out there, trust my comments and find another vet from good word of mouth and experience. updating this review to just say their actions and treatment to animals is disgusting, the amount of reviews reading similar to mine are devastating and concerning - as a veterinary professional myself, I truly understand costs are involved, patients do pass away out of our control - but this clinic however! they have no clue what they are doing and once again, I've lost so many of my soul animals because of this clinic. fellow exotic pet owners - trust trust my words and find another vet - my judgement is not biased or misinformed.

Negative experience: A year ago, I took my sick rat, Petal, to BEVS, expecting compassionate care. Instead, I encountered a series of events that would ultimately lead to her untimely death. I phoned BEVS to make an appointment, informing them about Petal's bladder infection and my temporary financial constraints. (I was waiting on a new EFTPOS card and had limited cash over the long weekend.) I was assured the consultation would be at the standard rate. However, upon arrival 7 minutes late, I was told the holiday rate would apply, increasing the cost by over $300. Despite my financial concerns, I was willing to pay for necessary treatment. Over the years, I had spent many thousands of dollars on veterinary care at BEVS, most recently an operation to remove a tumour that resulted in the rat passing away that same day. I still paid the surgery bill of over $3,000 before taking her little body home in a box, having accepted that the staff had done their best despite the sad outcome. The vet diagnosed Petal's infection and recommended antibiotics and further tests. However, when I asked to pay the balance after the holiday weekend, I was refused. Despite my history of prompt payments with BEVS, the staff forced me to pay the consultation amount upfront and leave without medication. Petal was left suffering, and I was devastated. Petal's distress was palpable. She made little sobbing noises throughout the night and urinated blood the next day. Over the weekend, Petal's condition worsened. By the time the bank opened, her infection had progressed, and we had to euthanise her to end her suffering. According to my regular vet, the infection had likely spread to her kidneys, causing irreversible damage. When I informed BEVS about Petal's passing, the receptionist's defensive response and denial of previous conversations shocked me. She said I was no longer welcome at the practice. The irony wasn't lost on me when I received a sympathy card for the loss of Petal from BEVS a week later, which felt like salt in my wounds. Since this incident, I've been unable to get treatment for my other rats at BEVS. When I offered to have a friend bring them in, I was refused. In fact, I was told that the only way my rats would receive treatment was if they were permanently rehomed to someone else. This stance has left me concerned about animal welfare and the practice's priorities. As a wildlife carer, I was also denied advice on treating sick birds, further highlighting the practice's unwillingness to help animals in need. The experience at BEVS was traumatic, and I'm still grappling with the consequences. I hope sharing my story will raise awareness about the importance of compassionate care and transparency in veterinary practices.

Firstly, we want to acknowledge how much your pets mean to you. It's always evident when someone shares a deep bond with their animals, and we truly respect that connection. We also recognise that your review comes 18 months after Petal’ passing, which speaks to how significant her loss was, and we are genuinely sorry for the pain you’ve experienced.
As you might imagine, we are surprised and disappointed by the claims made in your recent review. We hold detailed records of all our interactions, and our communication with you was extensive and transparent across multiple conversations, and pets, in differing circumstances.
We made every effort to ensure you were fully informed, supported, and given the opportunity to make a considered decision. Our team spent considerable time working with you with multiple pets always with empathy, respect, and clarity, particularly around the medical recommendations and financial considerations.
We must also clarify that some of the information you’ve shared regarding Petal’s visit to the clinic does not align with the documented timeline or facts recorded in our system. A number of treatment options were offered during Petal’s consultation, all of which you declined. Our management team had several personal conversations with you regarding your concerns about consultation prices and the communication with our staff. While we took your dissatisfaction seriously and addressed it promptly, we must be clear that our team acted professionally and with care throughout. Unfortunately, the manner in which you engaged with our staff at times did not reflect the respectful communication we strive to maintain.
Rachel, we find it difficult to reconcile that despite the concerns you’ve raised, you later contacted us requesting further care for other pets. After extensive discussion with you, we made the difficult decision to withdraw the provision of further services to you. This decision, as we explained at the time, was necessary for a number of reasons. Providing compassionate, complex care to our patients is a team effort, and we prioritise collaboration and clear communication with our clients to be able to best support them through this process. The way you engaged with our staff precluded collaboration, and further, does not align with the provision of an emotionally safe workplace for our team, who continually strive to offer the best care for both our clients and their beloved pets.
In a challenging economic climate, we remain committed to delivering high-quality, empathetic care, ensuring our business remains sustainable and our team is supported in the work they do. In all our interactions with you, estimates were clearly provided and respected, and the treatment options that we offered were explicitly accepted- or declined- at your discretion, and within the agreed financial scope.

Negative experience: My bird's health started significantly deteriorating after our visit. He got prescribed the wrong meds that made him super week to die only 4 days after the diagnosis. Fantastic experience: Our little girl Candy (Sun conure) was looking very limp and not at all her happy self. The staff were very helpful and fast to diagnose the issue, which was lead poisoning. It was paralysing her. She spent from Wednesday morning to Saturday lunch being treated, and well looked after. We had updates twice a day and were allowed visits each day. We were so worried she would die when it started, but each day, we could see she was getting better and stronger. She is a tough little fighter, and we were so happy to pick her up and keep up her recovery at home. Made her human mum so happy to have her home for Mother's Day. Thanks to all the staff and all the advice we received. You kept our little baby daughter alive. At home and very happy.

She was such a delightful patient- thank you for entrusting her care to us- she is a very brave little bird, and your family has done a wonderful job with her rehabilitation. Fantastic experience: We are so incredibly grateful to BBEVS for the amazing care they gave our pet duck Fifi when she was unwell. From the moment we arrived, their team was kind, compassionate and dedicated to making sure she got the best possible treatment. Throughout her stay, including overnight care and follow-up visits, they kept us updated and treated her like their own. She was so unwell and we didn’t think she would make it, but thanks to their expert care and kindness, she bounced back to her happy, sassy self. Fifi absolutely loved being spoilt during her stay, she was treated like royalty, and she knew it! Fantastic experience: The most beautiful, caring, compassionate and empathetic team of staff. After having a run around trying to find care for my Cockatiel, I wish I lived closer so I could get to them sooner as they really showed the love they have for their job and all animals who come in. Negative experience: UPDATE- 19/11/24 POST RESPONSE- LMAO!! WHAT A JOKE YOUR RESPONSE IS! I WOULDNT HAVE ATTENDED THIS APPOINTNENT IF YOU PAID ME AND THE APPOINTNENT WAS NOT FOR ME BUT A CLIENT OF YOURS AND HIS BABIES WHO I MADE THE APPOINTNENT FOR. Again this shows the incompetence of the person i spoke to who did not LISTEN! The only abuse what occured here is when I told the incompetent practice manager KIRSTEN what I thought of her when she defended an incompetent staff member who provided inaccurate advice and did not LISTEN on my call! My friend wants nothing further to do with you and attended a vet who cares to address the issue, competent staff and at a lower cost. Your slander and misappropriation of the facts yet again demonstrates what sort of people are empoyed here and again a warning to all about this overpriced clinic with unqualified staff!! PREVIOUS REVIEW- BEWARE OF THIS CLINIC!! INCOMPETENT STAFF ON RECEPTION AND A PRACTICE MANAGER (KISTEN) THAT WOULD RATHER DEFEND STAFF THAN SEEKING A RESOLVE! I said I wanted this looked into as I should be honored for the original quote. I advised I would be going to Fair Work and the Ombudsman if I could not get a resolve. I spoke to the practice manager Kirsten today and when I outlined my issue she advised that she was unable to honour the original fee discussed also stating I was rude to the person on the phone who called her in tears just because I said I would be taking this further and execising my rights as a consumer. To the crying staff member who is obviously inexperineced and out of depth in a simple customer service role, running and crying to the manager... GROW UP!! When I finally got to speak Kirsten (who was belligerent just wanting to argue the point of not honoring the fee advised) out of frustration I told her in no uncertain terms what I thought of her defense of the incompetence I experienced and terminated the call so dont believe any rubbish she may post on my review!! The office of Fair Work avised that the best outcome would to be a resolve of the situation with the business however Kirsten was more interseted in a crying staff member rather than to move to resolve the issue taking the incompetent staff members side and not honouring what I was advised of on my original call. What a disgrace this business is!! My advice go to the Avian vet at Chermside who are fair in their pricing and have competent staff providing accurate advice and fees! Shame on a practice manager that could not come to a resolve and just wanted to blame and argue with me instead of addressing the incompetence of a staff member that didn't listen on my call!! Shame the calls are not recorded so I have evidence in what was said. You all need a lesson in customer service and conflict resolution, taking ownership and thinking more about your clients instead of your precious egos when a customer complains. Fantastic experience: Excellent service and care. Took my cockatiel there after it survived a carpet python attack and the vets and nurses took great care of him and kept me apprised of his condition twice a day. Even checked up on him after he was released. I felt so reassured that my cockatiel was in safe hands

Negative experience: Went in for a consultation and $165. ten minutes later I am told that my chicken is so unwell they they recommend euthanasia but that will another $150 on top of $164 .Thats Just wrong

Fantastic experience: How have I been coming here for over 10 years and not dropped a review yet?! This is long overdue! I came to BBEVS in early 2014, travelling from the Northern Rivers initially. From the very beginning, I've been floored by the level of expertise, professionalism and kindness this practice embodies. My opinion hasn't wavered over the years, and I've continued to bring my little bird family to them for ongoing care. BBEVS sets the standard of care one should expect for their animals very high and maintains this standard in every encounter. They've taught me so much over the years about all things bird, and are always willing to answer my weird questions (I think it's telling that the reception staff can often pull the file based on voice alone ). I know people below have complained about pricing, but when you consider that this service is staffed by professionals who have spent literally half a decade MINIMUM studying and gaining additional qualifications in exotic medicine, it's actually extremely reasonable. No cost generated is unnecessary, and I say that having previously dealt with practices where they actually did money-gouge me. This practice isn't one of them. In any case, I generally think vets are underpaid in Australia, and if you don't believe that check the average salaries on Glassdoor. We still buy fuel, rent and see human medical specialists when prices go up yearly, why should animal health care be any different? It's not government funded. You are paying for quality and expertise. Speaking of quality, the vets there are all fantastic. My birds have been cared for by Drs Deb, Bec, Div, Kimberley, Emma, Sasha (former), Martine (former)-- they are all beautiful people. The vet nurses and client care team members are always wonderful too: my raptors have been looked after by Maddie, Alana, Meri, Kelsey (former), Charlotte (former), Matisse, Jess, Quilla--they always do their best to look after us and have seen me through some very difficult times over the years. I can't recommend BBEVS enough. The vets there stand out as leaders in their fields and continue to contribute to the development of the profession through active research (just look at all of the past and current publications many of them have been involved in). Just as I'd want a doctor that's up to date with current human medical practices, so too I want that for my feather children. I also swear that Dr Deb is the original Bird Whisperer™.

Negative experience: DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL THIS VET !!! , in 25 years of owning parrots, I have never encountered such a nelegent, careless, unprofessional, misinformed practice. Discharged with incorrect medications, traumatised my animal, who was returned litterly soaking wet from being dumped under a cold tap because staff broke her egg on her in transit, I was not allowed to see her once! Not even in consultation! Or whilst in their care. They lied about the situation, claiming she was dripping wet with her own poo and wee. I'm pretty sure anyone can tell the difference between that and water. And why was she in that sort of state. They claim its 24/7 care, it's not. Only staffed from 7. Your animal is left to its own devices, yet you get charged the emergency 24-hour care fees. the vet had less than 2 years experience, fresh out of university. I have an MBA, not a veterinary degree, and without doubt, I knew far more about parrots. SMALL ANIMAL CLINIC AT GATTON, DR BOB, best in Queensland, call there first! 10 years, and they have been brilliant! Will be following up with complaints to the relevant agencies to prevent this business from continuing its negligent money hungry practice. I can't apologise to my parrot enough

Let us preface our reply with a reminder that no individual should have to face bullying, intimidation, or aggression in their place of work. All of our staff deserve to come to work and feel safe. You threw money at the receptionist on the day of admission and were rude and verbally aggressive to staff upon discharge. Your interactions with our staff since discharging Myer have continued to be inappropriate and unacceptable. We had no option other than to terminate your position as our client on Monday, July 1st.
We would like to clarify the situation surrounding the complaints that you have listed. Our business hours are 8 am-6 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am-12 pm Saturday. We book regular appointments for pets during this time. When we are fully booked but an animal still needs to be seen, we offer clients the chance to see a vet in an ‘emergency’ capacity, outside of the normal appointment spaces. These appointments generally result in our vets having to work significantly longer hours. If we can accommodate an ‘emergency’ in an unbooked appointment slot, and it is safe for the pet to wait for that slot, then we will do so, at standard charging. In your case, the vet had to stay back late on Friday night to look after Myer. Our process ensures we can still see true emergencies - as we all know pets can need a veterinarian at short notice. Our staff were nothing but diligent and caring in organising your appointment and communicating with you during your long commute.
The qualified veterinarian spent a long time discussing different options and the pros and cons to each to ensure that you had all of the information required to make your decision plan for Myer’s stay with us. This included the option of two 24-hour emergency services located close by for monitoring over the weekend, once Myer was stablised. You declined that option.
As explained to you by the qualified nurse upon discharge, Myer was reluctant to sit on a perch during her stay, preferring to brood over her eggs. This put her close to her water bowl (where she had rested her tail) at the bottom of her cage. At no point was she dumped under a cold tap.
It is true that Myer’s medication bottle was one dose short of the 14-dose course. We apologised to you as soon as this was identified. In addition, despite having already terminated our relationship with you to protect our staff, our practice manager spent an additional two hours working with you on a solution to get Myer the final dose of medication. Despite this effort, you again called on Tuesday and abused support staff after you assumed that your package had been lost in transit. We are glad to hear the medication arrived safely, and our position still stands.
Let us reiterate: we will not tolerate any form of abuse of our staff. Our staff are hard-working, caring individuals, and we will maintain a safe workplace for them.
We wish Myer all the best for her future health and wellbeing.

Fantastic experience: I recently had the unfortunate task of having to say goodbye to my beloved guinea pig, Olivia, at the hands of the caring staff at Brisbane Bird and Exotics vet. During Olivia's final moments, the vet and her team displayed an unparalleled level of care and sensitivity. They provided me with a private room where I could spend some quiet moments with Olivia before the procedure, allowing me to say goodbye in a peaceful and dignified manner. Overall, I cannot speak highly enough of the professional and kind treatment we received from the staff at BBEVS. Losing a pet is never easy, but knowing that Olivia was in such capable and compassionate hands provided me with a sense of comfort and peace during a difficult time. Fantastic experience: Today was our first vet visit for our conure Pineapple. The vet was absolutely beautiful and so knowledgeable. Pineapple can be very spicy with new people but she was amazing with him. I have come home with so much more knowledge and tips for his care, it was a very comforting and helpful visit. Fantastic experience: A bit pricey but that's expected for a vet near the city. When I arrived for an emergency appointment a standard appointment had just opened, and the receptionist allocated me to that instead of making me pay the emergency price, which I appreciate. All the staff were really nice too.

Fantastic experience: In all honesty I cannot speak more highly of these guys. They took such good care of my little Crock Pot when he was sick. They fitted me in, gave me updates, provided information on what to look out for in case of the same problem happening in the future. They are truly not only just about treating your loved ones, but also about educating you and helping you prevent them for becoming sick or injured. Yes it is expensive, but isn’t any vet that does good quality work ❤️

We are glad that you trust our staff to provide you with an ongoing high level of veterinary care to your beloved pets. Whilst we agree that there are degrees of truth in your review, we do feel some perspective will assist in the interpretation of this review for those who read it.
There has been a single recent instance where your medication was not ready for collection. As discussed with you at the time, this identified a training hole for new staff. We have learnt from this experience and amended the training module for new staff moving forward.
We do have concerns about the inferred staff incompetence outlined in your review. As you are aware, there are special considerations around the appropriate handling and preparation for your pet's medication. As a manner to help you provide these at-home medications as easily and safety as possible, our team individually prepare each individual injection per animal for the entire term of medication course. This is something that takes considerable time, and a service that we have been providing you with at no additional cost. This service is tailored uniquely to your personal situation, outside of our standard scope of service, and one that our staff have diligently been adhering to for some time.
Admittedly, we are confused by this review as it seems that you trust us enough to continue to bring both your pets a considerable distance to see us, and yet there appears to be an element of distrust as well. This does concern us, as it is important that our clients trust all the staff and all the services that we provide.

Fantastic experience: I took my bearded dragon Stevie to BBEVS for a surgical procedure. BBEVS is one of the best and most caring vets I have been too. The staff aren’t forceful with purchases and they understand the cost of services, which is so important and nice to have after already going through the stress of a sick pet. I got regular daily updates by phone and text message while my little scaly friend was in the hospital and check ups once we’d taken her home and it put my mind at ease more than I can express! I knew from the first moment I walked in, that my little friend would be in the best of hands. I would recommend this vet to anyone and they’re definitely my go to vet for my scaly little friend! Negative experience: Edit 14/12/23: Revisited the reviews for this clinic to see if things had changed. Looks like they haven't from the review by Caden a few months ago. As for the response to my review, saying you "had not been aware she was doing poorly at home" is insane. I saw you as she had a respiratory infection and was making gurgling sounds while breathing. I then paid for an emergency appointment. If she was not doing poorly at home, why would I have made an appointment to begin with, then made an emergency follow up? I was told blatantly that she did not need medication and it would clear up, which is not the case for rats with RIs. They need to be treated as they escalate very quickly. Her sister ended up showing the same symptoms (determined it was genetic), I treated her with medication daily and she lived a full life. You tried to call when I was dealing with the loss of a pet (which had passed away within 2 weeks of me having her, due to BBEVS not knowing basic Rat care - if a rat shows signs of respiratory infection, you treat it.) and therefore, was going through the process of adopting another rat and introducing her to Pickle's sister, as rats can not be solitary (staying up all night on the first night to ensure she didn't kill the new rat I had introduced, which is a legitimate risk for rat owners). I did not have the mental capacity to answer the phone to the vet who was responsible for this. The right thing should have happened from the beginning. I was new to rat ownership and that was taken advantage of (which was confirmed once I spoke to others in the community of how weirdly "stingy" this clinic had become as of recent, as the time). For those looking for a good vet for speciality animals (can only give my opinion on rat care though), The Unusual Pet Vets at Jindalee are absolutely amazing. I saw them for the rest of the time I owned rats and they helped me a lot. Especially with providing medication for RI's (very common practice in rat care which should not be with held. Basic knowledge) ______________________________________________________________ Rat owners - Took my rat for an RI, vet said she didn’t require medication (her lungs were already VERY croaky at this point but as I was a new rat owner I didn’t understand how quickly respsitory infections progress). Paid for a emergency appointment a few days later as she was struggling to breathe and they only gave me doxycycline (by this point she should have been treated with doxycycline and enrofloxacin which is an aggressive treatment as she was VERY sick). Then by the time I went to another vet (half the price mind you) who gave me the enrofloxacin to treat her she had died as her lungs were too damaged. I was a first time rat owner (the rat in question I had for only a week and a half the first time I brought her in and the was approx about 3 months old) and I believe they took advantage of the situation and didn’t give me medication the first time so I would have to come back and pay again for the medication. I have been told that they have been dodgy for the past couple of months regarding being very stingy with giving out medication. I would 100% reccomend going to any other vet. For $120 per consultation I would expect much better care. Now I am more experienced I look back and I am completely appalled that they wouldn’t give me medication the first time I brought her in (which would have prevented this whole thing). Go anywhere else! Join rat groups on Facebook and ask around for reccomendations in your area! It will cost you half the price and you will not be missing out on any extra care. Please don’t be fooled by thinking that you are paying premium price for premium care! I really hope I have at least saved one Person from being scammed. As for the vet. Do NOT tell people that their rats do not require treatment for respiratory infections! The risk of developing an antibiotic resistance is nothing compared to the risk of a respiratory infection becoming fatal (which was the reasoning I was given, too bad I didn’t ask around at the time).

We know she was dearly loved, and her loss would have been heartbreaking for you. After you called to notify us of her passing, our specialist veterinarian Dr Deborah Monks tried to call you on a few occasions to check in and answer any questions you might have however she was unable to reach you. We know how traumatic it is to lose a pet, and many of us share our lives and homes with ratties who are part of the family. Fantastic experience: I bought my alexandrine parrot "Pablo" to BBEV and I am so glad that I did!!! From the time I walked in those doors I was shown kindness empathy and understanding from the staff. As I was visibly upset I was taken to a quiet room where everything was explained to me clearly. Financially I was on a very tight budget as it is only a few weeks from christmas. BBEV did everything they could to work within this budget. Fantastic experience: Unfortunately we unexpectedly said goodbye to our baby girl, and the team was so lovely. They gave us space to grieve, which was exactly what I needed. When we picked her up, she was so lovingly wrapped up and we were also given hair cuttings and a card with her paw prints.

Fantastic experience: Such a wonderful and caring place. Unfortunately the first time I went there was the time I had to put my little guinea pig down but they were so gentle and caring with him. It is a bit of a drive from where I live but it's definitely worth it because you get caring and kind vets who know exactly what to do when it comes to guinea pigs.

Fantastic experience: Impeccable team with the most beautiful and compassionate people. I called for an emergency appointment & before I arrived the information had already been passed on to the triage team, so that when I arrived the team was able to take him straight away and were aware of the issue. The vet explained our options in detail and was so compassionate, even giving me a hug that was so very needed ❤️ The team turned this heartbreaking day into a beautiful goodbye that I am so grateful for. Negative experience: I will never forget the time I was stuck in traffic and was going to be 10 minutes late for my appointment for my rat. I gave them a call and explained the situation, my rat was severely sick and needed medical attention ASAP. They told me they would not see me because I was 10 minutes late. My rat died over the weekend before I could get him into another vet. To this day I still blame this disgusting vets for my rat dying in pain. Please take your animals somewhere else, not all exotic vets have these ridiculous prices. They just want your money and don’t care about your pets as my statement has facts of this.

Negative experience: Used to be good but now becoming a cash grab... Pros: - Receptionists are always nice Cons: - Ridiculous price increases. Euthanising a mouse went from $95 to $140. Now they also require a full consultation ($153) before euthanasia, bringing the total cost to $293?!?! - Hit and miss Vets. Some are great and then there's other who care more about up selling you products/services. Example: Brought in our sick mouse and was told to leave her with them overnight or to buy various medications to treat at home (no mention of potential euthanasia option due to visible suffering). Went with the latter (costing over $300). Two days later, we went to another Brisbane vet who advised she is very ill and the medication would only be a short temporary fix (meds didn't even work). We decided to opt in for euthanasia to stop her suffering. Unfortunately in this case, there was either a lack of competency and/or empathy which caused our mouse further unnecessary suffering. Very disappointing...

Fantastic experience: I can not highly recommend a vet more then I recommend these guys. Even though it was the saddest day on earth for my partner and i so far, the staff were hands down the best people we can both say we have dealt with and we felt so supported and welcomed❤️ The vet nurse, Maddie, I believe her name was, was outstanding, I could not believe how amazing she was with explaining and supporting us through a very hard decision and time. I felt at home and comfortable even when I was I complete mess. Fantastic experience: Cannot begin to explain how fantastic the team here are. Today myself and my partner had visit take the turn for the worst, and could not have possibly asked for a better team to be in charge of ours and our pets care. We’d love to acknowledge the entire teams hard work and dedication, and also give a particular warm thanks and appreciation to Maddie who looked after us today. Her ability to not only show care and compassion to our animal, but also to us as owners was outstanding. Fantastic experience: Fantastic doctors and nurses with a true love for our tiny friends. On hearing about my little Cockatiel's accident, they offered a prompt appointment. Dr Emma was lovely and knowledgeable, and nurses were beautifully reassuring. As Spike, the Cockatiel had to stay in hospital, they provided regular updates and on release gave me lot of useful information. Much appreciated service.

Fantastic experience: An amazing practice with great knowledgeable, friendly and compassionate staff with both transparent and very reasonable pricing. When my mini macaw hurt himself in the night, I was terrified about what was going to happen. I've had extremely expensive and sometimes unpleasant experiences with bird vets in the past and was preparing for the worst-case scenario. I called the three avian vets around Brisbane and spoke to staff, got quotes and assessed appointment options. The two others agreed it was likely an emergency situation but were cold, largely uncaring and were somewhat evasive about giving a cost range for what to expect coming in. However, I called here and was able to talk through the situation with someone who actually cared, was able to talk through options and possible costs and was given appointment options immediately. I ended up calling this clinic 3 times yesterday before my appointment to confirm a few things, including payment options and the staff each time were amazing. When I came in, I knew I'd made the right call about where to go - the clinic is in a convenient location, looked great and had super friendly staff who seemed to genuinely care. My parrot isn't the easiest to handle if he doesn't know you, and he definitely put up a struggle but at no point did anyone make it an issue or anything. I can't say thank you enough to everyone who works here - you turned a scary and stressful situation into one where I left feeling welcomed, re-assured and that my birds care was in the best hands possible. After other clinics in the past pushing wing-clipping, refusing to talk about issues in anything but "layman's terms" and charging an arm and a leg to have a consultation - you've made a customer and patient for life. I'm the person everyone I know goes to for bird advice, information and help and I've always been on the fence about who to reccomend as a vet and what experience you should expect. That's no longer the case - I will be singing my praises for you guys from the rooftops.

Fantastic experience: I cannot speak highly enough about the staff at BBEVS. The staff on the front desk are friendly and efficient, even when surrounded by people checking in and out with their various pets. And Dr Bec is wonderful! Our turtle Wylie had not been growing anywhere near as much as he should have been. She took the time to thoroughly examine him and talk us through all the things that we could do to help. And was as excited as we were, when on his second visit he had doubled his weight! Dr Bec provided reassurance and encouragement along with her veterinary knowledge, when it was needed, to help us get Wylie on the right track.

Fantastic experience: I couldn't recommend more highly, booking was easy online with great communication and a text reminder in the lead up to the appointment. Fantastic experience: My partner and I struggled to pick a vet for our new Guinea pigs as we wanted to make sure we chose someone who knew what they were talking about. We decided to choose and exotic vet and pay extra for all the additional qualifications the veterinarians had, and this vet sounded perfect for that. We are extremely happy with that decision. All the staff were very friendly, and Dr. Krishnan was brilliant. She was so friendly and definitely knew a lot about Guinea pigs. We could see the love and care she had for them too. We are so happy with this clinic and are confident our pets are loved and looked after there. We recommend to everyone who wants proper care for their pets.

Fantastic experience: I just want to say a very big thank you to the amazing team at Brisbane Bird & Exotics for their kindness and service recently. My sweet little Nashi (green cheek conure) got injured and I brought him straight in, the team saw him straight away and did everything they could to help him. I was very emotional and they were so kind and comforting to me. I felt very looked after. Sadly my baby didn't make it but the level of care and compassion the staff showed from beginning to end, including the hand written card I received in the mail a few days later, meant so, so much and truly has helped me get through it. I feel comforted knowing that Nash was being well looked after and was made as comfortable as possible in his last moments, and I truly believe that if I hadn't received the level of service, kindness and care that I did, his passing would have been much harder to process.
