ARH Brisbane- 24/7 Emergency & Specialist Vets: Reviews
Fantastic experience: My dog Wedgie was a patient at ARH throughout all of 2025. We primarily saw Dr Rosemary and her team in oncology almost every week. We got to spend 11 wonderful months more with our girl and she made it 6 days past her 5th birthday before she passed away. We've been meaning to come by with donations and a thank you gift for Rose and Jamie (I'm so sorry if i spelt your name wrong Jamie) especially. We just haven't been able to face coming back yet. From my partner Chris and I, thank you. We are grateful we got almost another year after her cancer diagnosis. The entire team at ARH are amazing.
Thank you for your lovely review, Manda, especially at such a difficult time. It was an absolute please looking after Wedgie and you and we are very grateful we were able to give you that precious extra time together.
Negative experience: Insanely expensive!! Their rates for scans and anaesthesia is close to 8 x the cost at other places. I had previously been to MyOwnVet at Salisbury and only came here because my regular vet referred my dog. The cost difference was NEXT LEVEL!!! The Vet wanted to do all different scans on my dog, not what my vet had ordered. It just kept adding up over and over, preying on your vulnerability while your pet is going through a rough time. BUYER BEWARE! I will be talking to my vet and recommend they no long refer to this cash factory.
Thanks for getting in touch, Jane. Unfortunately, we can´t find a client record for you with the details you have provided. If you would like to get in touch with us on 3172 0593 we'd be happy to look into this further for you.
Fantastic experience: Yesterday we had to take our dog to ARH for further specialist attention. Sadly we said goodbye to him in the evening. This was the first time we have been to the hospital and we were very appreciative and impressed with the care and support the staff provided. It was a sad time for us and they were very considerate and supportive throughout the process.
Thank you for your lovely review, Edward. It was a privilege to be able to support you through a very difficult time. That is a very sweet photo, thank you for sharing it.
Fantastic experience: Dr Lance has operated on our black labrador twice, one surgery in 2022 and one this year (2026), both to fix cruciate ligament issues. He's done an incredible job both times and our boy is back to full energy and mobility and we're so grateful for his skill and expertise.
Thank you for your wonderful review JM, that is really lovely to hear!
Fantastic experience: ARH Sinnamon park wonderful reception staff, nurses, Drs. we had our Cailyn in their care from the 17th of Dec 2025 to the sad day 27th of January 2026. Explain everything in detail and never felt like they had to rush off. A big thank you to Dr Lin who help us with Cailyn in the early hours on Tuesday morning. Through out Cailyns treatment Dr Emily and her offsider nurse were wonderful I would highly recommend ARH animal Hospital for your family animals. nt
Thank you for your kind words, Irene, we appreciate you taking the time to leave our team a review.
Fantastic experience: Great vets . Our French bulldog had IVDD surgery this week and she was very looked after by the doctors and nurses. Our dachie Gucci has had IVDD surgery here too and she made a complete remission and went from stage 4 to now fully functional, healthy and living her best life post surgery. Just goes to show they have great, high standards and quality care for the animals and they’re in the best hands here . Surgeons are skilled. They kept us updated regularly. And they look and treat the whole pet don’t just dismiss symptoms. I took Armani to another vet where I was told she must just be tired and have dehydration to take her home. I did and she deteriorated. So we bought her to Animal referral hospital in Sinnamon Park, and the vet was empathic understanding had great clinical knowledge and took Armanis symptoms seriously , administered IV fluids. Tick treatment and painkiller’s Armani needed to stabilise then she went for MRI and surgery and everything went well and she’s recovering great. Personally I wouldn’t waste time on other ED departments would come straight here if you want the best care for your pet
Thank you for your lovely review and the beautiful photo of Gucci, Alessandra.
Negative experience: Vague & random at best but mostly DISAPPOINTING Let me just begin by saying that I am a specialist consultant myself so this review is in no way about bashing professionals for fees they charge. A wise person once told me "the secret to success is to say what you’re going to do & then do what you said" My dog had a sore leg & against my better judgement, I was referred to ARH. I had been there about 10 years prior & the bloke who saw her decided to also give an unrelated exam of her legs presumably (?) to see how many knee recos he could plan for future From the outset, dealing with ARH was frustrating. I enquired HOW I could pay - e.g. EFT, CC, Cash, Bitcoin (?) & was told 50% up front & 50% on pickup. I already knew WHAT I had to pay...had to ask again HOW At consult a week earlier I was advised that she needed Xray so they would do it before the operation. ARH couldn't say for certain if the operation was necessary or not but from physical exam it was likely. Date/time (7am) booked & pre-op instructions received SMS the night prior advised to be there on time as it was "IMPORTANT". Arrived early – 1st in waiting room. Others calmly came, went (i.e. no emerg cases) & waited – I was attended to 45 minutes later Paid deposit & asked for receipt - told it would be "emailed at the end" Why couldn’t I get a receipt at the time? ARH advised they would call during the day to advise how the procedure went. ARH called around midday - thinking it was to let us know op was finished & recovering but ARH said she was still waiting. Regurgitated the same message from a week earlier about how they had done a physical exam on her - my interpretation... my dog with no breakfast was still sitting in a cage wondering why she had been left there. Why not just call and say "sorry nothing to report" 6:30pm – very worried about status so called ARH only to be told that she was about to go for X Ray. WHAT? Were the surgeons then going to operate on her after having put in a full day already? ARH called back a while later & said X Ray had been done & she needed surgery but would have to do it next week. WHAT? We said we would come get her that night but ARH said "she still has the 'catheter' (sic - I presume they meant canula) in her leg and it was better to stay overnight ... ARH called back saying had spoken to "the boss" & can now do surgery next day under his instruction. One minute they couldn't do it then they could – which is it? What does "under instruction" mean - juniors doing the surgery whilst the "expert" is floating around? At pickup, ARH very defensive making & up excuses "we had some emergency cases..." I questioned this & the story changed to "...unfortunately we took a bit much on today...". Which is it - emergency cases or poor planning? No problem with me if we get bumped so someone else's pet can be saved but don't lie to me & make excuses to justify your poor effort Needed to fix up the bill so the ARH vet disappeared off to another room & NEVER RETURNED. Rude - probably figured it was a lost sale so no point persisting any further. Seriously...why not just be humble & apologise instead of avoiding the tough discussion? The young lady (H____h) behind the counter was ever so gracious & competent fixing up the invoice for me. She was a pleasure to deal with & got it all sorted with a smile so that we could be on our way (never to return). Curiously, never ever did get ANY receipts via email though... So, just in conclusion, before the ARH business manager or some other admin/business type person there wants to respond to this one star rating with some lame response "...we strive to be the best at ARH, please contact us to resolve your issue..." or even worse trying to paint me as a spammer "...we can't seem to find your details in our system..." have a look your records 5 December & 11 December 2025 under "Xanthe". My recommendation – see intro above and DO BETTER for the next person ARH! Don’t worry about me - I will NEVER be back.
Negative experience: If I could give a zero review I would. This morning experience was the worse I have ever experienced in customer service. This morning one of my dogs required urgent attention to attend to a puncture would around his eye. He was losing quite a lot of blood. I arrived and was treated curtly by “Ronah” a woman with glasses and a short haircut and zero empathy. I have been here before so they already had me in the system. She told me I could have 2 options see an emergency vet or wait until 9am for a surgery consult. It was just after 7am so I didn’t want to wait for 9am for Odin to be stiched up. I was then told that if an emergency vet saw him shortly I would have to pay on top of the 220 consult and additional 110 for an internal transfer for it to go to the surgeon. Quite frankly I could care less about the extra 110 I just wanted my dog attended to asap. Nonetheless it was just a stupid unnecessary procedure designed to gouge the consumer. Dealing with this person was like dealing with a public servant with zero empathy and her just going through procedural nonsense because she didn’t have the intelligence to understand that the dog was suffering and to get to the fastest most effective care outcome. I have a background in healthcare, having at one stage ran a team of 1200 GPs statewide so I know poor patient care when I see it. After waiting an hour and losing complete faith, I called my normal vet and he was like that’s garbage just bring him over and he was operated on immediately. When I dared to object I was told by her that she didn’t want to deal with me and to talk to her manager who was obviously someone in administration as I asked if her manager was a vet and she said no. Prime example of what happens when no professionals manage in health care, they have no idea and these are the outcomes. When I walked away I watched her make childish gestures behind my back to her colleague at the desk which was shameful display, highly unprofessional and shows the character of the person. Before anyone brings their animal there I would first check that your own vet can’t deal with it. I would also make sure they aren’t ripping you off for what they are doing. And I would insist in dealing with a veterinarian not some admin boffin who ultimately has no idea about patient care. Animals are patients and there owners should be treated with empathy and respect. I’ve also noticed that a lot of the positive reviews for these guys have been bot driven and are fake. What will happen now is some from the PR team will write a response that says they did nothing wrong and that it was all my fault. They take no responsibility. Even in their responses to bad reviews they lack empathy. I did read all the negative reviews on here and they all say the same thing. They care only about money, they do whatever they can to drum up more cost, and they totally lack empathy. If you read those reviews you will see there are some very serious allegations of malpractice and if they were human patients there would be some very serious investigations and repercussions for the organisation. Unfortunately there is little oversight into the pet industry.
Fantastic experience: What a great Vet, we have only been using this vet for a short time and a few visits... but wow I can say these guys are so accommodating and great to deal with! We have a dog with a hard to manage medical condition that requires constant vet visits and more often than not emergency visits and after hours care. You can tell the team here actually care about your pet and want to help, very professional and the best part is very affordable. After being absolutely ripped off for years by our previous vet and then being spoken to rudely and not getting the answers we needed we moved on to this vet and we are so stoked and glad we did! Great work to the entire team from reception to the nurses and specialist vetinary team thank you finally found a vet worth going too! What a relief!!!
Thank you for your lovely review, James. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your experience at ARH Brisbane.
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff Our Devon Alice was referred here by regular vet with a phone call.. ARH immediately admitted and suspected FIP without hesitation. Treatment commenced quickly. While Alice still has a way to go before she is back to her spicey self, confident that with the quick actions of both regular and ARH staff Alice still has a few of her 9 lives left for years to come. Thank You Tracy, Aaron and Alice
Thank you for your review Tracy, that is really lovely to hear. And what a sweet photo of Alice!
Negative experience: I will never go to this place again, I’ve been sitting in there waiting room for over an hour with absolutely no interaction from any of the staff, I’ve seen 3 other animals go straight through, I can understand if they are a priority but all they need to do is say something not just leave a person sitting there, I will stay because now I have very little choice. Really disappointing
Fantastic experience: I am so grateful for the care and advice Dr Jarrod and his team provided, especially during/after Spencer’s (my dog) spinal surgery for IVDD. Spencer is doing so well, and I am thankful every day for the treatment from such a talented team. Thank you, Dr Jarrod, for choosing this profession. As pet parents, we feel so lucky to have you. Thank you ARH x
Fantastic experience: We are really grateful for the team at ARH - My dog Murphy dead on Saturday night, the team was compassionate and supportive. They listened to me and throughly brief us the possibility of live or not live. They helped us in a very humane way and they wrapped Murphy in a graceful blanket when we took him home. They did his paw print and left me some of his fur as well as an absolutely beautiful card ( which made me cry) I really appreciate the help from the wonderful team, a horrible incident happened but they tried their best and for that reason, I’m grateful.
Negative experience: Such a shame there is no parking anywhere near the surgery during the day
Fantastic experience: I cannot rate this place high enough. They made a hugely stressful and worrying time very stress free. They are amazing, from start to finish, so caring.
Fantastic experience: Our fur child recently underwent surgery for IVDD and we are beyond grateful to Dr. Libby and the entire team for the incredible care they provided. From the first consultation to the surgery and aftercare, Dr. Libby explained everything clearly and treated our fur child with such kindness and compassion. It made a stressful situation so much easier for us as a family. A huge thank you also to the amazing nurses and reception staff, who were always so friendly, patient, and reassuring every time we called or visited. Their support and understanding meant so much during this difficult time. Thanks to the whole team’s dedication and expertise, our fur child is now on the road to recovery, and we couldn’t be more thankful. We highly recommend Dr. Libby and the team to anyone needing specialist care for their pets.
Fantastic experience: ARH is great place to go if your pet has challenging medical conditions, very understanding and committed
Fantastic experience: Dr Elizabeth and the team was amazing in taking care of my little cavoodle and nursing him back to health quite quickly. They were really responsive to my concerns and even followed up once he was back home to make sure he was on track.
Fantastic experience: This is a wonderful place. They have given my pets the best care and very convenient to my home. I have always found the staff pleasant and helpful.
Fantastic experience: My amazing 15 year old ragdoll Louie was put to sleep on Sunday night. The team there were absolutely amazing to allow me the time to be with him for his final moments while holding him. Even though I'm sure they could all hear my cries throughout the building I was glad I was given the space to do so. I can't thank you enough for the care and support from everyone there. I'll add a photo of my boy from his prime years. Thanks from The Skingle Family and I'm sure it's a thanks from Louie as well.
Fantastic experience: Really professional and warm during a difficult decision to put our pet down an a Sunday evening. They have a lovely sitting room we could be seen in and spend time with our cat. We were reluctant given this was not our usual family vet however glad we came. Really appreciated all the little touches to make us feel comfortable at this time. All staff we dealt with were fabulous and would highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Needed to take my little dog last night after convulsions Katherine and the girls were wonderful. Very caring and knowledgeable. Had to leave Barney overnight to start him on intravenous drugs. Received call in the morning to tell me how he was progressing. I highly recommend this surgery.
Fantastic experience: Every single person at ARH is wonderful, patient, kind and caring. Thank you for caring for my baby and me. Not sure which one of us was more distressed, but the ARH team are just the best and nothing was too much trouble. What wonderful human beings. Thank you for caring for us both.
Fantastic experience: The team here is fantastic. We have received nothing but unmatched care and compassion from everyone, without exception which is rare. Especially grateful for being looked after by Dr Jordan Fletcher - (after an initial lengthy misdiagnosis elsewhere) purely based on careful listening to our concerns and looking at our pup, she established a spot-on diagnosis even before all the thorough testing was done, which proves her impressive expertise.
Fantastic experience: We were there with our dog Mia just last night. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They were so good with our dog, I would highly recommend this vet hospital, and their staff. Thank you for a great experience.
Fantastic experience: Haven't physically been here but called seeking advice with regards to dogs and cane toads and the woman I spoke to was so lovely and kind - calmly gave me solid advice, talked me through what was needed, and the dog is perfectly fine! Thank you so much!!!
Fantastic experience: my dog (the rock eater) was so well looked out for today 24/12 by Dr Emily & the team & medibank pet insurance as well, wonderful experience
Fantastic experience: From walking in through to leaving, every Member you will encounter is amazing to both you and your beloved pet! Oscar was part of a horrific hit and run. His survival looked very grim, but the team with their love, sophisticated facility and the commendable specialist surgeon Dr Lance Wilson! A full 10 stars guys! Love your work , your care and attention to animals is outstanding! Communication top notch, keeping us updated continually sending photos of our beloved Oscar! Thank you FUREVER.. you are all amazing! I will add a photo a couple of months down the track! Photos are before accident - through to post op and home day and beyond. Recovery ❤️ continues at home! Much love your “Angel Boy - aka Oscar ”
Beautiful Oscar! The team all miss you terribly (what a star patient you were!), but we are so thrilled to hear you are recovering well at home. I'm sure you are receiving lots of TLC. Thank you so much for your lovely review, and the beautiful photos! We look forward to seeing you for your check ups!
Love from the ARH team xxx
Fantastic experience: I can't thank ARH enough for the care and attention they gave to my pup, Albie. After discovering a disposable razor with the end missing in my backyard, I rushed to ARH and from the moment we arrived, the team put a very panicked pup (and owner) at ease. They were so gentle and patient with Albie, and were able to keep him relatively calm despite his usual anxiety. The vet and nursing team were thorough and patient, explaining every step of the process in detail. Their calm and caring approach made a stressful situation so much easier to handle. Thankfully Albie made a full recovery and was back to his normal self in no time. Although I hope we wont be visiting again any time soon, I wouldn't trust anywhere else with the emergency care of my pets. Highly Recommend
Negative experience: I took my cat to ARH Brisbane, hoping to get some real help. They hit me with an insane bill of $1600 for basic tests, which they never even bothered to perform. After leaving my cat overnight, promising to run essential tests to determine her insulin needs, I still have no idea what dose she requires. Now I’m left with a massive bill, and I have to find another vet to do what these people should have done in the first place. It feels like they’re only interested in squeezing every last dollar out of you rather than providing the care your pet needs. They’ll milk you dry without a second thought. Save yourself the anger, stress, and money—find a vet that actually cares!
Dear Dark Shredder (Sorry, I am unable to locate a file related to your name), we're sorry to hear about your experience at ARH Brisbane. We strive to provide top-notch care and are disappointed to learn that we fell short of your expectations. Your feedback is valuable, and we will use it to improve our services. We would like to discuss your case further, please contact us on 3172 0593 and ask for the Hospital Manager. We genuinely care about the well-being of your pet and thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Negative experience: I had good experience with ARH previously. Not this time. Dr Sureiyan Hardjo from intensive care showed not so much manner ( sitting down looking up at my wife and I when discussing options at consultation room) I can not convince myself in a service industry this is the standard we are receiving. After we put our babe to sleep we asked him to removed the tube from his nose. I can not tell you how pissed I am to see he is showing lack of care and being very rough on my babe. Yes I understand maybe it is different because of the tape is so sticky. But I DO NOT see any gentle movement. We treat him like a babe at home and I understand he might just be a dead body to you Dr Sureiyan Hardjo. But to us this is very disrespectful. You might be very knowledgeable and we believed you did everything you can and that part I appreciated it. Not the overall experience. I hope ARH does take people’s compassion and personality into consideration when hiring. 1. Is not about medical skill 2. Is not about the money 3. It is about the ATTITUDE
Dear Ryan, Thank you for sharing your feedback and taking my phone call. What we discussed on the phone will be actioned and I thank you for your time. Again, we are very sorry for the loss of Mocca. Warm Regards, Holly - Hospital Manager
Negative experience: Wish i could say positive feedback about this vet. However, our experience was very traumatic and disappointing. I only have positive feedback for one of the admin staff who was polite and compassionate. I can't say the same for the treating vet who was on Tuesday night (short blonde hair). We arrived with our cat Leo who had been in an accident and we were obviously very worried!. They took him out the back so we didnt get to see him, then the vet come into the room pretty much gave an ultimatum that without $4-6000 upfront for him overnight alone, without any other treatment he wouldn't stand a chance. After needing a few minutes to think she returned into the room staring at my son and i like a brick wall, my young son and I absolutely hysterical pleading and begging of there was any other options, until the morning where I could take him to another vet practice...she suggested euthanasia and insisted he wouldnt make it through the night, she wasn't the slightest bit empathetic or compassionate , never said a sorry or handed a tissue, made me feel like an inconvenience... I suggested we take him home and would re assess putting him to sleep in the morning as one of my sons wasn't with us to say goodbye, She highly advised against this and said "can you go and pickup your son , so we can do it now", and made me feel bad for signing my cat out, against her advice. We took him home ($532) still later , he was comfortable and content for the night, walking around, eating and drinking, I proceeded to take him to my vet the next morning. The vet had one look at him walking around the room, looking for pats and rubbing against us quite content. After looking at the ultrasound and giving him a thorough check over, she said she absolutely would not recommend euthanasia and was happy to give him a shot of anti-inflammatory and send him home to rest.. he has been home ever since and is doing extremely well, and they only cost $130 for everything they did, including being understanding and compassionate that he is a part of our family... ringing every day to check in and see how he's doing... No surprises, I haven't heard a word from the animal hospital!!! Just want to say to people please please please go with your instincts and do NOT be preassured into putting your animal down because a certain vet can't milk you dry of money, at a time when you feel totally vulnerable and emotional! My cat would have been put to sleep at the hands of this animal hospital 5 days ago , when we didn't have a ridiculous amount of money upfront, when he's absolutely fine now!! Disgraceful at its finest, animals may be a money pitt for your practice, but they are a part of people's family's!!
Dear Ashlee, we are deeply sorry to hear about your experience. We take all feedback seriously and will investigate this matter thoroughly. Our goal is always to provide the best care for our patients and their families. We appreciate your honesty and hope to have the opportunity to make things right in the future. We kindly ask if you could contact the hospital on 3172 0593 and ask for the hospital manager to discuss further.
Negative experience: We took our seriously injured dog to these people after they said on the phone they could help her but actually all they could do was drug her and wait to the next day. Not a 24 emergency vet service.
Dear Jack, We apologize for any confusion regarding our services. As an Animal Referral Hospital with Emergency Service 24/7, we strive to provide the best care possible. We would like to discuss with you further however, we are unable to locate your file with the name provided. Please contact us on 3172 0593 and ask for the Hospital Manager. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Fantastic experience: Our pomchi Mr Babloo was not well for weeks and had been to various emergency hospitals without a diagnosis. We finally went to ARH upon a recommendation and met Dr Lance, Chantelle and the wider team the next business day after calling them. Lance was the only person who was able to immediately resonate with our concerns and gave us answers quickly. Babloo went through a tough surgery and we are glad to say today he came home. Itll be a long recovery but all we can say is thank you ARH for caring for him. Everyone we dealt with at ARH genuinely cared for Babloo and treated us with respect during a difficult time. Thank you to you all.
Fantastic experience: Amazing emergency clinic/hospital and specialist centre. We have been for emergencies and to the specialists for a few health issues with our golden retrievers including oncology and neurology. Excellent standard of care from the specialists to the kind and caring receptionists.
Negative experience: I don’t recommend using the ARH business. We took our 14yo Kelpie X after she had been having seizures every 30-45 minutes. 1. We were told she had been given some anti- seizure medication to head off the next one, but that turned out to be false. 2. After the consultation was done, we had a discussion with a staff member & agreed to a plan of action (including an overnight stay) - but while I was paying the deposit, the staff member was urging my wife to do more tests 3. After returning home, we got a call that they had just found she had low blood pressure (why so late?) & strongly recommended $3k of tests in addition to the $1.5k overnight stay. At this point we lost trust in the ARH so we cancelled the overnight stay & returned to the premises to pick up our pet. Only at this time was euthanasia cited as an option for our 14yo family member. 4. We learned that they hadn’t compared the blood test results with those of 3 months ago from an earlier visit (to assist diagnosis). While the staff may well be caring, we got the strong impression that maximising testing / treatment dollars for ARH was more important than what was best for our pet. I expect they will refute some or all of this in their reply, as is their pattern with critical reviews. But this was our experience of ARH.
Dear Nigel, we appreciate your detailed feedback and are sorry to hear about your experience. We absolutely hear your concerns and do take this very seriously. We do value your feedback and would like to resolve this with you if you are open to a conversation about your experience. We look forward to hearing from you.
Regards Kate - Business Manager
Fantastic experience: Had to see the medicine team today with our sick cat! They were amazing!! On time, looked after our boy so well, were upfront with costs (actually came in a little less that what they said) and were so professional yet personable!! Thanks so much to you all!!
Fantastic experience: Jason and I would like to thank Dr. Grmma and all of the staff for your professionalism, kindness and wonderful care you have given to my beloved Chilli. You all are the BEST of the BEST!!
Negative experience: Not a good one. When l saw the vet all she was interested in was if the dog would bite.I reassured her she would not she said all Chihuahuas are unfriendly. Not a professional approach at all I explained I thought she had a UTI.$290.00 later no medication for a UTI .Went straight to another vet urine test done and came out with medication. I asked myself why l bothered with this hospital.Never again
Fantastic experience: Our beloved golden lab Bobby was diagnosed with lymphoma which took hold of him and spread quickly. After consultation with Oncologist Liz Morgan we provided with a detailed synopsis of Bobby's condition. Liz was very empathetic and caring throughout. We made the tough decision to let Bobby walk across the rainbow bridge. Afterwards, Liz admitted that we'd made the right decision. We thank all the staff and especially Liz for their care and concern. We cannot praise the hospital highly enough.
Negative experience: This place is clean and open 24 hour, which is great. That's about it. The rest not so good. This Saturday our 10 month old Siamese Lulu had her back bitten through a dog and had her back broken, leaving her back legs very weak. I found her in the middle of the stairs somehow , meowing in distress. We went to the wollongong 24 hr vet where the amazing vet tried to keep the costs as low as possible with xray, pain meds, consult etc. And also referred us to ARH. Cost $716 there. Arrived at ARH about an hour later in the middle of the night, where I was given the option of exploratory surgery to check her abdomen was all good or just wait and see. It's fair but i found it counterintuitive to open my baby opened up when the previous vet said she was stable. They seemed highly into aggressive treatments and gave General statements like 'good chance' of recovery etc. Whereas where was the percentage? Of failure of surgery as well? They also um and ahhed about not going down the surgery route. Never did i meet face to face the vet directly in charge of her, just nurses and interns. I was unluckily unable to get funds that night but I was allowed to pay the deposit the morning after. I'll give them that. On Monday the male vet who would be operating on her called and basically said she was then stable enough for spinal surgery, at that point I was unable to afford the $10-15 000 surgery and had already spent $1,700 on my cat at this point, over $1000 at the ARH for purely an overnight kennel, pain meds, fluids and assessment. I also didn't know any vet or surgeon who don't want to talk to you face to face about EXACTLY what the surgery will entail and the risks, is seems they want you to give in on the pain of being seen as a bad owner. Anyway once I said no we will take Lulu home Monday the vets tone changed, was curt and convo ended. When I went to take her home there was a sheet signed with me discharging her, for 'financial reasons' already ticked. I know I'm not rich but to then get a rotating intern to prefill my form for me, without giving me agency to fill out MY OWN LEGALLY BINDING DOCUMENT was just bad taste. Let me fill that stuff for myself. The kicker? Home for a day, One of Lulu's back legs is almost fully functional, the other still not as strong but she can walk! They said she couldn't move then at all. They said she needed surgery. Liars. Update: Lulu completely healed and is a healthy active 3yo with NO weakness in her back legs and is able to run jump climb etc like any other cat. She healed completely on her own within about 2 months of the incident. I stand by this review to question the necessity of surgeries that doesn't seem to make sense. Imagine if the surgery made her worse. The best possible scenario would be that she healed exactly the same and I'd be down $10,000 - 15,000. Worst case ...I've made her worse and I'd be down $10,000-15,000. After seeing another review here about a poor dog made worse after a $6000+ surgery, I am so glad I did not put Lulu through the same fate. It appears there are good vets here, and not so good ones. Be careful
Hi Liz.
We appreciate you getting in touch and are sorry to hear you had a bad experience with us. Lulu is a lovely cat and we enjoyed looking after her.
We understand emergency situations are stressful and can be difficult for owners which is why, when possible, we provide our clients with various treatment options. Unfortunately, radiographs showed that Lulu had suffered an unstable vertebral fracture-subluxation from the dog attack, which at the time was preventing her from walking. The current published recommendations for an unstable spinal fracture is surgical stabilisation, however as the emergency team discussed with you advanced imaging is typically required to further quantify the injury, assess for additional issues, and allow us to be as informed as possible with regarding treatment options. Had the CT or MRI scan revealed surgery was recommended, a full discussion (in-person if possible) would have been undertaken with our surgeon prior to surgery. We note that over the weekend you confirmed your willingness to pursue advanced imaging, the cost of which was discussed.
After a phone conversation with the surgeon on Monday morning you informed us that you now did not want to proceed with further investigations and instead desired to pursue conservative management, a decision that our surgeon was happy to support and work with you on to ensure the best possible outcome for Lulu. We are glad to hear that Lulu is going well and hope that she continues to improve.
We apologise that pre-filling the discharge form was offensive to you. Our intention was to make the discharge process as easy as possible, and we appreciate you letting us know.
I realise our team has already discussed this matter in-depth with you over the phone since your review, however, I´d be more than happy to talk further if you require additional information or clarification.
Warm regards,
Annabel Buchanan

Fantastic experience: Lance Wilson and the team at ARH have changed my chihuahua Pixie's life more than I can even express. She is now walking and running like she used to years ago and has so much energy. I highly recommend anyone looking to get surgery on their little dog to make sure Lance is the surgeon as I am convinced he is a miracle-maker because that's what he has done for Pixie. Forever grateful to ARH for giving Pixie her mobility back - thank you so much! Still in disbelief every time we go for a walk and it just about makes me cry with happiness to see her strutting along - I swear she has a smile on her face! Kind regards, Coby Lee Beel and Pixie
Fantastic experience: Literally saved my dogs life on ANZAC day! Our family is so thankful for their amazing efforts.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful group of the most caring and professional people who go above and beyond to do what they can to care for our seriously ill pets. They are extremely knowledgeable in the field of expertise yet take the time to know their patient and their owners. If you have a pet who needs specialist help these people are THE best people to put you loved ones into their care
Fantastic experience: I was referred to ARH after an unfortunate incident with my girl Rayne. I have been extremely happy with the way the team have looked after her. Dr Jarrod Drew has been exceptional with Rayne. He is also very passionate and explained everything clearly so I could understand everything. Highly recommend
Fantastic experience: I took my dog this morning after she had foam in her mouth and was vomiting. The nurse was so lovely, reassuring and professional explaining all the options. Couldn't be happier with the experience.
Fantastic experience: We have had nothing but amazing experiences with the team at ARH. One of our dogs regularly sees Dr Emily from internal medicine who has been incredible with diagnosing and helping us to manage his inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). She is such a a lovely, knowledgeable vet who clearly cares about the well-being of our pets as well as us. Recently our same dog was suddenly diagnosed with IVDD. He was examined by the neurological specialist department who did an amazingly thorough examination and kept us in the loop throughout the diagnostic process and treated our furry child so well. We were then referred on to Dr Lance from the surgical department. He was concise, answered all our questions and performed spinal surgery on our big fuzz. Hades was discharged from hospital 2 days before expected because of having such a speedy immediate start to recover straight after surgery. He smashed rehab and recovery goals which we put down to having such an incredible surgeon perform the operation on Hades. We rushed Hades back to ARH yesterday because it looks like he has slipped another disk. I was hysterical and the reception team was fantastic at dealing with me. They were so kind and understanding. We were then immediately seen by a vet from the emergency department. I have forgotten her name (sorry! I wasn't in a good head space!) who was so gentle and caring with Hades and super informative with us. She gave us a plan to work with and we will be back soon for another appointment with Dr Lance. If I was being super critical the only thing I would want to mention is it can be slow for pet insurance rebates to be sent off, but I absolutely understand that there would be so much admin involved so that doesn't deter us at all. All of our (many) trips to ARH have been incredibly positive. Every staff member that has worked with us has been excellent and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend ARH to anyone needing a veterinary specialist for their pet, or needing the emergency department. Thanks team ❤️
Negative experience: Took my 4 month old puppy here with a suspected broken leg over Easter weekend from a fall off a retaining wall. After spending $1300 to find out he had 1 fractured leg and a quote for $6000 surgery I went to my normal vet after the long weekend and with a full assessment undertaken it was found he had two fractured legs, the cast the referral hospital put him in did not support the break of the leg assessed instead could have worsened the fracture and he wasn't given any pain relief for the entire weekend. Happy to say he has now received the surgery from my vet for over $1000 less then quoted from the referral hospital with all of his after care treatment and laser therapy treatment included for both legs.
Fantastic experience: I hate going to new vets with my boy as I've had some horrible ones in the past, so I'm very slow to trust. So when my pup was referred to a dermatologist here, I was nervous, but I wanted to do everything I could to stop him from being in such discomfort. The reception immediately made us feel welcome which calmed me down. Then once we saw the vet herself, my boy was happy to be around her and the rest of the team (which is a great sign). She gave two options of the way we could go, even letting me know the success factor of the more expensive route was lower, but possibly slightly safer in the long run if it did work. She explained in full the route I chose in person and also included it on a written report for me to take home. As any specialist is, it's pricey, but they're worth it!
Fantastic experience: We took our Jack Russell 12 years old into the Referral Hospital early one morning (3am) as he started having seizures. Right from the beginning the care given to him and us was remarkable. During his acute phase we were kept updated constantly by the vet team. He was then referred to the Neurology Team. Dr Christine Thomson took over his care and words cannot express how fortunate we were to have not only have benefited from her expertise but also have been shown such kindness and guidance when making decisions for our little dog's care. With what started as a week's life expectancy turned into having him with us for another four months, with good quality of life. Ultimately his condition determined the outcome for him and Christine looked after him beautifully to the end. Could not recommend both Christine and Referral Hospital any higher.
Negative experience: Dont ever bring your pet here if its a night time emergency. We thought our dog had something wrong with his back as he couldnt walk properly in the middle of the night and we brought him here in hopes he would be treated properly. When we got there at 2 am the doors were locked. It took them about 7 mins to open the damn door and the receptionist was rolling her eyes and looking at us as though we were crazy when we were trying to speak with her. The receptionist was incredibly rude and inefficient. We asked for help and asked them to see what was exactly happening to our dog but the receptionist was more interested in whether we were a customer or not……. They said that our dog had a stroke and that they could get someone in to get him a brain scan. Our dog that night was very tired of barking and he was hot to the touch. We asked ARH to at least give our dog something to stop him painfully barking as it was wearing him out and they told us it “no need to its not your dog whos barking”. As if we haven’t heard our own dog bark before. Dont even get me started on them getting us to pay when we will were shaken up. Just pretty much shoving eptos machine papers in our faces … they cant even be bothered at least pretending to be sorry that its a 50/50 chance that our dog wont survive. The next day we had our dog come home and had a local vet put him to sleep. A week later we had a lovely sorry card from our local vet obviously nothing from ARH.
Dear Mia,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I’m saddened to hear you felt your experience with our team a few years ago did not meet your expectations. My sincere condolences on your family’s loss of little Ben. I understand the decision to let him pass peacefully would have been very difficult for you.
Being a 24-hour hospital, it is imperative our team, and patients within our care, are safe at any hour of the day. For this reason, our front doors are locked between 6pm and 8am weekdays and 24 hours on weekends. We do have an intercom at the front door, or clients can phone our main number to notify of their arrival, as our main reception is not staffed after 10pm weekdays, or 8pm weekends, as would have been the case during your presentation at 2:00am.
Once we are notified of your arrival, a team member will be out to assist you as soon as possible. Due to the unpredictable nature of an emergency and critical care hospital, delays can be experienced if we have multiple critical patients that require stabilisation (just like at a human emergency department). Upon presentation, it is important we establish if your pet has been a patient with us previously, as any previous medical history is pertinent to our treatment plan and recommendations for your pet.
Our team understand that being in hospital may be stressful for our little patients, and we do everything in our power to make them as comfortable as possible throughout their stay. As part of his treatment plan, Ben was given three different medications whilst in hospital to help alleviate his seizures and to also reduce his anxiety.
We also wish we didn’t have to discuss the financial aspect of veterinary care, as we know how difficult it is to have an unwell pet. Unfortunately, this is something our team must discuss, so our clients are able to make an informed decision for ongoing care for their beloved pets. Our financial policies are also outlined in our consent forms that every client is required to complete, and can also be found on our website.
We have a team filled with empathic animal lovers – that’s why they turn up to work each and every day. Our team members share in the loss of the beloved patients they take care of, and we often send cards or flowers to our grieving clients to let them know we are thinking of them, and as a way for our team to process their own emotions. If we have not received notification of a pet’s passing outside of our hospital, we do not send these items to avoid potentially upsetting families if this has not occurred.
If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email to [email protected] or phone (07) 3172 0593.

Fantastic experience: Super professional. Very knowledgeable vet. Gave us all the options. Saved my kids from heart attack. He is doing so well even after a year. They gave me details how to look after him during the consultation. If anything urgent I will take my pets here.
Thank you for your very kind review Mr R. We're very happy to hear your beautiful little boy is doing well at home. What an adorable photo of him!
Negative experience: I have not had a good experience with this hospital. After spending at least 6 months trying to find out what was wrong with our dog with our vet we were referred here. Within 5 minutes of the consult the surgeon assured us it was a cruciate injury, we scheduled him in for surgery right away. He has never been the same again, he still has all the original issues and now he can barely stand, and they charged us $6500 to break my dog more than he was broken to begin with. Thanks. I don’t really know what to do with my dog now, I’ve put him through so much and it breaks my heart that I put so much trust and faith in this place to fix him, and they just made him worse. As we drove away we knew this all didn’t seem right, I wish we’d just trusted our instincts because we knew that this all seemed too quick to diagnose, but we were so excited we thought we finally had the answer from an expert. But that wasn’t what we got. When we went back for the follow up they actually did some more diagnosis for us (at a cost of course) to tell us everything seemed fine…. Wish they had done that before telling us we needed $6k surgery which has just made him far worse. Apart from the fact we feel Cassie actually tried to help us on the follow up; I’d honestly be leaving this as a 1 star and looking at other avenues in which we should be complaining as I absolutely feel that they preyed on us as vulnerable loving owners, and they provided absolutely nothing in return except subjecting my dog to unnecessary pain. Would not recommend. Look for someone else.
Hi Chris,
I'm so sorry to hear that Sprocket has experienced some ongoing lameness at home. I believe Sprockets' specialist surgeon, Dr Lance Wilson, has since spoken with you regarding Sprockets' ongoing treatment. If you have any further concerns regarding Sprocket, or your experience at the hospital, please don't hesitate to contact me directly via email [email protected] or phone (07) 3172 0593.

Negative experience: My dog died today at the hospital because they exploited a dog who was already in a palliative care situation to make as much money as possible. The appointment was for information about her medication and diet so she might die at home but suddenly specialists heart, oncology and annestatists turned up. We had already told not to do give her annestatic or do the scan because it would kill her but they did it anyway to make money. So she died on the table not at home. No doubt they make money out of the pet funeral business as well. Do not bring your pet here, it is all about expolting you and the pets for money. Since posting, told our clients about our pets death. One said they had the same experience with their pet and one just said they had taken their dog there and they were thieves.
Dear The Dome House Coolum,
We are so sorry for your family’s loss of little ‘L’, and wish you peace and comfort at this time.
I’m saddened to hear you feel your experience at the hospital did not meet your expectations. Your appointment was an initial consultation with one of our oncology specialists, where all options for L’s care were discussed at length, including all associated risks, and costs. Your decision was to proceed with advanced imaging, to gain a clearer picture of L’s overall condition. Following news of her very guarded prognosis, we understand how difficult the decision was to let L pass peacefully , and we’re glad your family could be present at this time.
I’m deeply saddened to hear you think the priority for our team is money. Our team care immensely about animals, and always have the best interest and welfare of the pet as their priority. We’re very proud of each and every one of them.
If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email on [email protected] or phone (07) 3172 0593.

Fantastic experience: Thank you so much to the beautiful receptionist Christine you are an angel sent from heaven! My dog Nike was presented to the animal referal service in a critical condition the staff here have went above and beyond. The lovely Christine did not give up on us in terms of finances she tried every option and we are forever grateful to her. The world needs more people like Christine!! We know our dog is in the best hands here thank you for all your help to all the wonderful staff
Thank you for your kind review Fartun. We agree, Kristen (and the rest of our Customer Care Team!) are absolutely wonderful, and we're very lucky to have them all! We hope Nike is recovering well at home, and receiving lots of TLC. Take care, and give him a big hug from us all! Love from the entire ARH team xx
Negative experience: I think your experience here highly depends on the vet you get assigned. I know someone who had a wonderful experience. However our dog was referred here and we ended up euthanising him. The vet seemed more interested in running tests compared to what was best for our dog. He did not show any empathy or compassion, towards our dog or us. I also think that they are expensive as well. I would recommend going to a smaller 24hr vet where you are more likely to get high quality care and compassion.
Dear Emma,
Thank you for taking the time to review our hospital, and my deepest condolences on the loss of your little one. I appreciate how difficult it is to say goodbye, and I'm saddened to hear your experience with us at such a time was not easier for you. Receiving feedback is very important to us, so we can continue to evaluate and improve our services, and the experience of our clients and patients. I would like the opportunity to be able to discuss your concerns in more depth if you would feel comfortable contacting me by phone or email.

Fantastic experience: I would like to thank Dr Carrisa and the team at ARH for their treatment of our Maltese x Miles when he went into congestive heart failure. Miles made a complete recovery and his quality of life is good. He is enjoying his time back at home with us and we couldn’t be happier to have him back. If you have a pet emergency, I couldn’t recommend this clinic highly enough, especially Dr Carrisa, she is a ⭐️ .
Thank you for your wonderful review Nicholas! We also think Dr Carissa is a star! We are so happy little Miles is back home enjoying life. He was a pleasure to have in the hospital! Give him a big cuddle from all of us.
Positive experience: Good, but expensive. My dog ate something he shouldn't and had to be induced for vomiting. Total cost $460. Granted this was a weekend evening so going to be paying a bit more. Other than the cost the service was fine, vets were friendly and professional and the place was clean.
Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your review, and I'm pleased to hear you found our vets friendly and professional. We agree, good veterinary care IS costly, and being a 24 hour emergency hospital, our team are legally entitled to penalty rates for working weekends and evenings to care for our special patients. We're glad your dog was able to make a full recovery!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing team. One of my rats had a respiratory distress episode and they kept him overnight on oxygen. When I came to pick him up in the morning he was finally eating, drinking and responsive. Beautiful caring team, highly recommend.
We're so happy to hear your little rat is doing well, and thank you for your very lovely review!
Fantastic experience: Dr Lance & Dr Kasey were very helpful with my dog (Lewis) on Monday and kept me up to date with his progress till discharge today (Thursday). Shona was also very kind and helpful when it came to finance for his surgery. I hope I don’t have to come here again but if my animals ever need help I know where to take them, no question. Very nice facilities and people.
Thank you for your lovely review Stephanie. We hope Lewis is being a good patient at home for you, and we look forward to seeing him at his recheck appointments for a cuddle!
Positive experience: Wonderful service, helped my boy to get back to his normal self. Only negative is that the price is a little high. Overall 4/5 stars. ☺️ Ps thank you for helping Koby to get better
Thank you for your kind review Samara. We're so happy Koby made such a speedy recovery. Give him a big cuddle from us!
Fantastic experience: Best vet. I would recommend this place. I travelled 35 minutes to this vet. And I have 2 vet's near my place which I wouldn't recommend. That's why I go here. Great service and friendly.
Thank you so much for your lovely review C C. We truly appreciate it!
Fantastic experience: These guys are 100% the reason my dog is still alive today, he was hit by a car and had multiple life threatening injuries, and has since made a full recovery. He’s a 10 year old dog and still acts like he’s 4 years old, post a 5 month recovery (multiple broken legs & surgeries). Special thanks to Libby, she certainly is one of the main reasons I’m posting a review. trust her and the entire extended team again, the whole process was mapped out and you could tell this was something they had under control. They’ve definitely given another 5 years back to the most deserving Golden Labrador. He’s a bundle of joy and loved by hundreds, thank you Libby and the entire ARH hospital. I’m truly grateful for your life saving service. Accident: 07/11/22 Photo 1: 31/03/23 Photo 2: 15/11/22
Thank you for your lovely review Lachlan! We think Dr Libby is pretty special too. The team have loved taking care of Oscar, and we're so happy he's able to continue spreading joy and love to his admirers! He's a very special boy!
Fantastic experience: Our pup has had both hind legs operated on (for luxation of patella) and we're incredibly happy with the quality of the care. The staff are friendly, caring, and kind.
Thank you so much for your lovely review Vicki, the team really appreciate it!
Fantastic experience: We are so appreciative of the high level of care and compassion shown to our boy Charlie during his last few days. All the staff involved in Charlie’s care were caring, honest, supportive and professional. We will never forget all your hard work in trying to save our precious boy.
Thank you for your kind words during such a difficult time Michelle. The entire team share in the loss of Charlie. Thank you for entrusting your beautiful boy's care to us. Thinking of you, and wishing you comfort and peace.
Fantastic experience: Our dog received the best care, thank you to receptionists, nurses and vets who showed such genuine compassion and care during an incredibly stressful period. Can't thank you enough!
Thank you for your kind review George.
Fantastic experience: Ive taken both of my cats here in the past for various issues that have always happened on a friday night when their regular vet is closed. The team is super professional and friendly and always keep me informed of wait times so i always know what to expect. They are super caring and i know my cats are in good hands when they come to ARH :)
Thank you for your lovely review Julie! Our emergency and critical care team really appreciate your kind words.
Fantastic experience: Thank you so much to every Vet, nurse and administration person who helped with the care of our Greyhound Rodney. We have been so reassured throughout the most stressful week of our life that he is in the best hands possible. We could not be more grateful for your ongoing kindness and expert care. Such an amazing team of truly compassionate people.
Thank you so much for your lovely review Rosie. The team adored having Rodney in hospital, it's been our absolute pleasure taking care of him!
Fantastic experience: I'd like to thank Dr Emma with her caring attitude and her considerable knowledge, with the very sad untimely passing of our Sydney, the Cornish Rex over the Labor Day long weekend. I wish Dr Emma and staff all the best for these hard, emotionally charged times. The clinic was neat and tidy and we were triaged quickly on both occasions. Dr Emma explained the sad findings of blood tests and what our options were. She remained calm and professional yet caring through out the entire process. Thank you for trying.
Thank you so much for your review Louise, and for trusting us with the care of your beautiful little boy. We understand how difficult it is to lose a beloved pet, and our thoughts are with both of you.
Fantastic experience: The reception, nurses, and vets were so understanding, considerate and showed so much empathy, compassion for the assistance for our 11yr old cat who had a aggressive cancer in which they had given us time to say our goodbyes and took good care of her final minutes. Thank you
Thank you so much for leaving us a lovely review Jess.
We are so sorry about the loss of your beautiful Heidi, and our thoughts are with you.
Thank you so much for trusting us to care for Heidi.

Fantastic experience: After seeing another specialist and being quoted $8000, I was relieved to find out ARH was only going to charge me $5000 for the same procedures. Not only where they less expensive, they were friendly, attentive, took the time to explain everything to me, called when they said they would and actually cared. Emily and the team were amazing. Thankyou so much !
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a 5 star review Dog Bizness :)
Fantastic experience: An emergency trip on a friday night for our 6-month-old fur baby after he had swallowed a foreign object and was so unwell, we took him straight away to ARH. The staff in reception, nurses in the examination room and the doctors who looked after our fur baby were terrific, not just lovely, but efficient they all knew what each other had done and what had happened at each shift change the two days he was in the hospital. Having owned several pets, I know this place is the most caring, honest and collaborative animal hospital I've ever been to, and we have been to a few. Thank you to all the staff at ARH. You are all amazing and should be proud of the level of customer service and care for your patients and customers. Thank You
Thank you so much for such a delightful review Craig, our team members will be absolutely thrilled to read it. We do hope your beautiful boy Lennie is back to 100% and staying out of trouble :)
We are so pleased that we were able to help out you and Lennie.
Thank you again,
ARH
Fantastic experience: Fantastic. Really caring and thorough, the vets keep you updated while your pet is with them. We left very happy
Thank you for the 5 star review Jacqueline, we really appreciate it, and we are very happy that you were very happy :)
Fantastic experience: Very knowledgeable staff and always make my dog feel very comfortable. Kept her in overnight but never failed to keep me informed on how she was doing - very appreciated for an anxious Mum!
Thank you so much for the lovely review, Lisa. We are very grateful for your trust in our team, and we hope your very special Bonnie is continuing to do well. We know how nerve-racking it can be having your pet in hospital, particularly when they are having surgeries or procedures - we feel the same when our pets are in hospital! All the best, The ARH Team.
Fantastic experience: The team there are incredible! Can’t thank Dr Lance, Dr Libby and the whole team enough for the care they gave our German Shepard!! Qlds best surgical team for sure x
What a lovely review Lee-Anne, thank you so much. We are so pleased that we were able to help Luke after her trauma, and throughout her recovery - we have loved looking after her. Take care and thank you again.
Fantastic experience: This hospital is amazing. All the staff are exceptional. Communication was brilliant and our dog was well cared for. Definitely recommend.
We are ecstatic to get such a lovely review Joanna, thank you so much! We love caring for our patients and it is so wonderful to receive your feedback. We think our staff are exceptional too - we are very lucky to have such a wonderful team!
Fantastic experience: Couldn’t recommend these guys highly enough. They are such a busy practice, yet they still take the time to do thorough consults, call you with updates and are always available to answer any questions/concerns. Our dog had spinal surgery here and we felt as comfortable as you possibly could throughout the whole process thanks to Libby and Lance. Our 9 year old staffy/kelpie has recovered so well and we can’t thank the team enough for what they did for him. The skill and expertise of these guys are unmatched in the Brisbane area. Libby especially is just the most thoughtful, thorough, caring and empathetic vet we’ve come across. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much Grace, we are all delighted to receive your wonderful review, but Libby especially will be extremely thrilled. We are so grateful to have such wonderful clients and we are very pleased to have been able to help your gorgeous boy Cooper, and to hear you say that he has recovered so well from his spinal surgery. Thank you again!
Fantastic experience: Wonderful hospital with an immensely caring and highly qualified staff from reception, nurses through to vets and surgeons. Highly recommend when your fur-baby needs the best of care.
Thank you so much for your delightful review Charlie. We love looking after your gorgeous little Bronte and we hope she is doing well at home.
Fantastic experience: Dr Thomson and the whole team at ARH are hands down amazing! Our family is eternally grateful for the care they have given our girl maple! They have gone above and beyond, shown so much compassion and care.
Thank you so much for this lovely review. The team will be so excited once we share it with them. We hope Maple is continuing to do well, and managing okay with her diary :)
Fantastic experience: Our owners “love of her life” baby Gi Gi went in as an emergency 7 days ago. Gi Gi has been in ICU since & today underwent life saving surgery. Dr Lance, Dr Libby and the team (Reception Staff, Critical Care Nurses & Doctors) have all gone above & beyond. Their Experience, Knowledge & Skills, combined with a passion for saving lives makes this dedicated team of Professionals a team to be admired and respected. Thank you from the DermSkin Family.
Thank you so much for your beautiful review. We hope that your gorgeous little Gi Gi is continuing to do well. Please give Gi Gi a big hug form Dr Lance and Dr Libby and all of the team.
Fantastic experience: We had our Dachshund in for back surgery, the team were fantastic and very helpful. Absolutely cannot recommend them enough
Thank you so much for your review Cameron. We are really pleased that we were able to help you and your little Dachshund, and we hope you are both doing well.
Fantastic experience: Separate waiting areas for both dogs and cats. Staff as super friendly and caring, every consult has been with a smiling face, recognising the owners and the pets. Communication and follow up has been good
Thank you so much Beer Drinking Traveller! We also think our staff are super friendly and caring, but it is super exciting when one of our lovely clients notices and mentions it! Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review :) XXXX
Fantastic experience: The ARH clinic provides 24x7 support for all your veterinarian needs. We have had a number of surgeries performed here and are very happy with the results.
Thank you James - we are very pleased to hear that you have been happy with the results of your surgeries! Thank you for the 5 star review!
Negative experience: Stay away!! Horrible communication and unessesary tests and appiontments stalled a needed operation Three times in a row they told me they would call on a day and I had to chase them 3 times a day or more later when they didn't. After racking up significant bills for the recommended CT scan and mandatory pre and post appointment they started to try to bounce me between specialists, telling me they couldnt recommend operating until we'd consulted further. I sought a trusted 3rd opinion (so made the 90min round trip to a trusted vet who hadn't been involved in this saga up to this point) and (after a health dose of common sense on the situation) a week later the necessary and somewhat time sensitive operation was completed successfully. I chose to hold off reviewing this place until my dog recovered to a pretty happy point. She's 14 and had 4 mamory glands taken out, 3 with tumours so was a bit weak after the operation but has picked up very well a bit more than 2 weeks later. Had I continued blindly with this place I'd have a couple more significant bills and still be waiting to see the 3rd type of specialist they'd recommended with no operation. My vet also told me they'd reported a tumour on the wrong side in their CT results too. It felt like I was getting involved in a scam they way they were setting me up with a couple other specialists, playing on my concern for my dog while draining my bank account. I'm glad I stopped going here and would NEVER return. In fact, I have been actively recommending to everyone I've spoken to about this againt taking pets here.
Hello ‘D’,
I am so sorry to hear your thoughts about ARH and our team, but I am extremely pleased to hear that ‘G’ has recovered happily from her operation for the mammary gland tumours, notwithstanding her enlarged aorta. That is indeed a very good outcome!
We were, of course, very pleased to confirm that she did not have a lung mass or heart based mass on the CT scan performed (the possibility of which was the reason she was referred to us by your original vet.)
We hope ‘G’ is also doing well in recovering from her bladder stones and urinary tract infection, and that the nodule on her liver that was identified is also being monitored.
We wish you and ‘G’ all the best with her ongoing care and treatment. We are very comfortable that the tests and recommendations that we have provided or offered in the 2 Consults (Initial and Recheck) that you had with us have been the best options for ‘G’ given the risks involved in her surgery, and her co-morbidities, and we assure you that at all times, her best interests were at the heart of all of our recommendations. We will however make a note of your comments on your file and also advise your referring vet, and the external imaging radiologist who prepared her CT Report.
Warm regards,
ARH
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff and super helpful, called them twice this evening concerned about my dog, they took the time to listen to all the symptoms, gave fantastic advice, really put my mind at rest. Also didn’t try and get me to come in unnecessarily and advised that I could wait to see my usual vet when they open, no wonder my vet recommended them!!!
Thank you so much T - we are really pleased that our team were able to assist you, and we hope your dog is doing well.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend! I cannot thank this team enough for everything they did for my boy when having surgery for IVDD. Every person we spoke to was lovely and helpful during this stressful period for us. I am forever grateful to them all!
Thank you so much for your lovely review Hazel! It was our absolute pleasure to take care of little Obi. We hope he had a safe flight home yesterday, and is enjoying all the extra TLC at home with you! Give him a big cuddle from all of us!
Negative experience: My beloved boy was in for the 2nd time with the same issue . This occasion he was in for less time but it cost a fair bit more with no acknowledgement of the extra costs. A phone call in the morning told me one price but when I got there it was a shock. I will not be taking my boy back here again.
Hi Darren,
Thank you for getting in touch with us, and I’m so sorry you feel you had a bad experience at the hospital. We understand it can be frustrating at times to have an animal with a chronic illness, and that their medical needs and personalised treatment requirements may change from visit to visit. We would love to be able to keep our costs the same over a period of years, but unfortunately our fees have had to increase over the past 2 years since you last attended the hospital with your lovely boy. Although, I do believe that his most recent visit was in fact cheaper than his visit two years prior. Our team had communicated all associated costs for Rejic’s treatment with you throughout his stay, including an extra day of hospitalisation at your request, all of which you had consented to, so I’m sorry you feel that there was a communication error.
If you would like to discuss any concerns you may have, please don’t hesitate to call me at the hospital on (07) 3172 0593.

Fantastic experience: I can't say enough about the staff and the care they have given our beautiful girl Mimi. They performed a high risk operation and we are very happy with the outcome. The love for our girl by all the carers' is clear to see. It is obvious their hearts are in the right place looking after our loved furbabies. Not just a job but a passion. Thank you and much appreciation from our family.
What lovely words for our entire team to receive, thank you Southam family! Our team loved taking care of your beautiful girl Mimi whilst she was in hospital with us, and being able to provide her with the extra cuddles and attention she deserved. We hope she is recovering well at home, and look forward to seeing her for her rechecks.
Fantastic experience: Provided meticulous care for our little mate in his last few hours. Can’t speak highly enough about the level of care and compassion shown by all the staff here, thankyou!
Thank you for your very kind words Justin. Our thoughts are with you during this very sad time.
Fantastic experience: Our beloved Shadow a 17+ year old Pomeranian had a bad health turn over the weekend, out of our vet working hours - of course. We knew it would happen sometime but it occurred very quickly and he was clearly in great distress. We made the mercy phone call and dash to your hospital, and we can say that you guys were just fantastic. Efficient and empathetic, this was all handled with great care and dignity. We had a chance to be with Shadow and see him off on his next adventure. All the staff were great, especially the young vet. Thank you so much.
We are so sorry about the loss of your beautiful Shadow, Peta, and feel honoured to have been able to provide support and assistance to you, your family and little Shadow on this very significant occasion. Thank you so much for your very kind review.
Fantastic experience: We went to Animal Referral Hospital to get answers to why our 17mth old boxer had been sick for the past month . Although the answers were not what we wanted to hear we have no hesitation in recommending this Hospital . From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a warm "hello" , & then we met Dr Gemma Birnie & we knew then we were in the right place .We felt like whatever we said was "heard " and taken into consideration. The kindness she showed us under the difficult circumstances will never be forgotten. Thankyou .
Hi Taryn, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. We are so sorry about the sad news you received about your lovely little boy, and we are all thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.
Fantastic experience: Lance and Libby are amazing , we had a tough time 2 yrs ago with our boy Jack having an auto immune disease. Lance and Libby did everything they could to treat a hard disease. They were always there when l called and emailed being unsure when new things developed as it was very complicated . It's taken us 2yrs to get another dog , but decided it's time now to get a puppy, she's now 5months old and 2weeks ago she broke her leg and needed surgery. This was definitely the place we were happy for her to go back to. Shes on the Rd to recovery thks again to Lance and Libby , they also remembered who we were and we haven't been there for 2 yrs which was very touching as there are alot of people that go there ..such lovely people that work there, experience everytime has been amazing .. wouldn't go anywhere else
Hello Christeen, thank you so much for your review. We feel very honoured to have been trusted with the care of your boy Jack during that tough time, and to now have the joy of treating your gorgeous little girl, Pumpkin - what an absolute delight! We hope she is coping well with her confinement (extra hard for a puppy like Pumpkin!) and we look forward to seeing her back for her rads. Please give her a cuddle from all of us here at ARH, but particularly from Dr Libby and Dr Lance!
Positive experience: Adequate outdoor parking (for size of the centre) right outside the small clinic style hospital. Staff are friendly and vets are extremely caring and respectful. Unfortunately Healthy pets plus only gets you a 20% discount now
Thank you for the review Freedom Guy. We are very pleased to hear your feedback that our staff are friendly and vets are extremely caring and respectful.
Fantastic experience: I cannot praise this hospital enough. I have, in the past, had an appalling experience with an emergency vet at Stafford and when my vet said that my incredibly ill cat needed to be transferred to hospital I was terrified but felt better that it wasn't the previous emergency hospital. Bertie was transferred by animal ambulance, on oxygen, and eventually a tick was found to be the cause of his condition. He is a British Shorthair, and black, so the tick was difficult to find. Once the cause was discovered his treatment was dedicated and expedient. At all times I was kept informed and the vet and other staff were truly amazing. I am truly grateful to the hospital, the animal ambulance and my local vet that I still have my beloved Bertie.
Oh dear, Margarett, your poor beloved Bertie! What a traumatic experience! We are so very pleased that Bertie is doing well now, and happily at home with you enjoying his food again! Thank you so much for your lovely review and please give Bertie a cuddle from all of us and tell him to stay away from those nasty ticks!!!
The ARH Team :)
Positive experience: The Vet Maureen was lovely, considerate and very knowledgeable and so was her learning T/A (5 stars to both) and I recommend them. It was more the look of three bland almost unhappy faces as I “too” also walked in sad knowing the news I was likely to receive. Some smiles and positivity from admin staff both pre and post would’ve most certainly afforded this review 5 stars.
Thank you for your review Franky. We will pass on all of your feedback to our team members. We sincerely apologise that you didn't feel a warm and caring reception pre and post consult, as that is definitely what we aim to provide, at all times, but particularly in difficult and sad situations. We are very sorry for your sad news.
Fantastic experience: We are eternally greatful to the staff who showed so much compassion for our family. Our little Lilly was treated with so much love. They gave us advice on how the procedures would go and gave us a rundown on the costs. Though it was pricey we know that our Lilly got the best care. She was loved in this life and loved even more at the end of her days here with our family surrounding her. Thank you so much to the staff. I recommend Animal Referral Hospital to all. Your loving pet will be looked after by professional loving staff. Thank you for your service
Thank you for your truly thoughtful review Apaiteina. We are so sorry for your loss of little Lilly, and so pleased that we were able to care for your precious Lilly. Thank you for being such a wonderful family to Lilly and giving her so much love and care throughout her life, and during her time to say goodbye. Our team members really appreciate you trusting them with the care of your special girl. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: We needed a vet urgently. The staff were fabulous, so caring. We unfortunately had to say goodbye to Zane but the vet was so lovely. It was a difficult night but it was made easier by the staff at ANF.
Thank you Zoe. Our thoughts are with you and Ian after the sad loss of your truly gorgeous boy.
Fantastic experience: My maremma tore his Achilles in the rear leg and had to have surgery. All of the girls at reception were always so helpful. Jared did the surgery and was amazing! He always took the time to explain and talk about georges condition whilst being understanding of what we were going through. Every time I had a question or concern, Jared was always prompt in calling back the same day. I could not recommend Jared enough to take care of anyone's fur baby.
Thank you for the lovely review Michelle.
We are so pleased that we were able to help you and your family, and that you trusted us with the care and treatment of your handsome boy George Malcolm. Take care and stay safe.
All the best from the whole ARH Team.
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff, so helpful. Always our go to vet! Can call anytime to get help and ask questions. Majority of the time it is a very quick process. No long wait times.
Thank you so much Tharaka. I am so pleased that you are happy with our team :)
Fantastic experience: Professional, thorough, compassionate and fairly priced. Unfortunately our visit ended with the loss of our beloved dog, but we know the lovely vet did all he could. His gentle, caring and supportive approach from the moment we arrived, to the final moments of our girls life, will never be forgotten.
Oh Tanya, we are so sad for you and the loss of your very special dog. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. Please know that we are thinking of you and your girl, and we are sending you our love and comfort x
