Negative experience: I have been taking my beloved papillon dog here for 13 1/2 years. Took him multiple times this year as he was struggling to go up steps and declining. They said he was too old for an X-ray and had arthritis. I decided to go to another vet who immediately sent him for an X-ray. That vet rang me straight away to tell me my dog had terminal prostate bone back cancer. I was so disappointed in Colonel Light Vet and feel they let my Bambi down in his last few months of life. They should have been more thorough. Sadly my papillon has passed and left us heartbroken. - However, the practice manager has since rung me and said they are sorry for what happened and that from now on they will “always offer a referral”.

Negative experience: Disappointed with this vet on more than 1 occasion - but our most recent occasion takes the cake! Our 9yo Labrador had a small growth on the sole of her foot (an open bleeding wound) - rather than sending off for a biopsy immediately so that we could have some answers as to what this growth is - they sent us home with antibiotics for a week. the growth doubled in size and got messy, so we took her back. To which they told me to take a photograph, continue the antibiotics and bathing it in betadine. I phoned them to request some more information on what we are dealing with... and they said they would not discuss anything unless we brought our dog back in (for yet another cost!!) and the older male vet got angry with me and kept telling me I was trying to put words into his mouth - when I was simply wanting to know what the next steps were and what he thought we were potentially dealing with. Not once did he suggest it was a cancerous growth, or take any tests to get any further diagnosis. He suggested taking our dog to see a surgeon... which we did. The Surgeon was shocked that the vet had not initially taken a biopsy to be sent off (a simple procedure!) which the surgeon did with us on the spot. By the time we saw this surgeon (3 weeks after our first visit to the vet) the growth had enarged 4 times the size and was now taking over our dogs entire foot. the biopsy results came back with a fast growing and aggressive cancer.... the growth was too large to remove by that stage and our only options were to amputate her entire leg (not viable since she was a heavy 9yo Lab and her opposite hip was not good).... or Euthanize for quality of life. HAD the biopsy been taken on the first day we went to the vet, the growth would have been small enough at that stage to remove and we could have had 1/2 a chance and got the cancer before it spread to our Labs lymphnodes. We had 4 weeks nursing a bloody mess on our dogs foot since the 1st day we took her to this vet, before having no choice but to Euthanize her. Our dog was in pain to continue walking on the foot, as the growth had become too large to handle. The main reason we will never go to this vet again, is the poor service on more than 1 occasion from the counter staff - the lack of communication - the sarcasm from the vet when we ask any question relating to options - and the disregard for the fact that we are paying huge amounts of money to get their 100% service. Another shitty experience was when we took our guinea pigs in there to get properly sexed (as we wanted to make sure we had 2 females and not 1 of each)... they used a text book to check... and failed to look at any other health factors for the guinea pigs. They didnt offer to cut their claws (something all guinea pigs need doing regularly) and when paying $60 per pig! this visit was a $120 visit for the vet to "look at a text book and GUESS what sex they are" and that was it! No other advice, nothing to help us out with wanting to know about what to do with one of their pregnancies. Why are we paying for these services when we could just look up the same information on google??? If Guinea Pigs aren't their "forte" they should have referred us elsewhere rather than rip us off.

Negative experience: I gave taken all of my pets to this clinic. My pets received quality care. Today speaking with the receptionist was told I could no longer have credit. The upsetting thing is her complete lack of empathy. This call has left me really upset. I rescued my cat I love him a lot. I know he isn't going to be here for much longer. Thanks for your non caring Coldness. Why do people like that work in an industry where compassion is paramount.

Fantastic experience: I went to this vet after my sister suggested to go as it was half price for desexing and was worth it as they were amazing and when i took my puppys cone off he was pulling at his stitches , so they said to bring him in at no charge and now the cone is off and he is soo happy . Negative experience: Don't take your cats to CL vets as they will miss diagnosis your cats then won't fix the problem, then blame client for their constructive feedback, Shame ! Cruel , abusive behaviour on behalf of 3 vets in question who couldn't treat my cat , made him worse (septic ) Warning Don't ⚠️ go to CL vets !

Negative experience: The vet was kind and every nurse that came into the room was lovely but one staff member over the phone was extremely insensitive and rude. When I called to cancel my appointment for my dog to be put down due to needing to move the time of her death up, the lady on the phone said “oh goody someone wanted to come in this afternoon anyways” I was specific on the phone and said I needed to cancel my dogs appointment that was for being euthanised due to needing an earlier appointment so she wasn’t in pain. It was very upsetting. I would like to give 0 stars but the one star is for the kind vets and nurses.

Fantastic experience: Our dogs getting older and some tough decisions coming up, the vet was so empathetic and caring and I felt so heard. My Lab got so many snacks so I’m sure she would give 6 out of 5 stars :)

Fantastic experience: As always at a place like this, it is the staff that make it warm, caring and knowledgeable. Would recommend. I only go for injections and minor things, but the liver treats are fab and I haven't even wet myself there yet! Not even on my first time to meet everyone and get a needle AND a temp check. I like it, it's got woorizz. ❤️San x

Negative experience: Recently had the older male vet that works there and had a terrible experience. Going to start off with saying been going to this vet for over 10 years so I’m very disappointed at this as always talked highly of this vet. Went in with my dog to get his ear checked up on and this mail vet did not even go near my dog when I suggested why doesn’t he try looking at his ear he got angry and told me he would put my dog into surgery to look! The attitude that this man had was disgusting. He should not be a vet. Again I feel sad and there was other lovely vets that were there however they have been a few times in the past where they have not been able to identify a simple problem when other vets can. I have now taken my animals to the Hilton vet centre and I have to say they are exceptionally extraordinary. If you can avoid this vet, I would. After 10 years of loyalty of not just myself, my other family, going to this vet, to receive the treatment that I got is so disheartening. I hope you guys re-evaluate the type of people you have working at your clinic. We all know this is an unforgiving hard job, but again, this man’s attitude, and the way he just was should not be in this profession.

Fantastic experience: My dog is overcoming alot of anxiety around going to the vet, the team here have made him so much more comfortable and I always love how thorough they are in explaining options for care. They even brought in a second nurse to help him feel safe while in my arms for his vaccines

Fantastic experience: My gorgeous girl Flash is incredibly shy and not a fan of people. Every time I have gone to colonel Light Vets they cater for the needs of Flash. Yesterday we had the waiting room to ourselves, they took their time with getting Flash ready for surgery and they always ensure that she sees the one vet only. The attention to her needs are so important as she navigates her way in this world and out of the many vet clinics Flash has been to, it’s nice to finally have a clinic that has Flash’s best interest at heart. A huge shout out to Caitlin the vet who treats Flash like her own. We appreciate you. ❤️

Fantastic experience: The staff are always very helpful and have always given our mini Dachshound Clyde the best care, they also allowed me to bring in a rat that was probably poisoned who was suffering badly which they helped give him a peaceful end to his life.

Fantastic experience: We came here to get a second opinion on advice/procedures recommended elsewhere. Dr Paul provided realistic advice about our ageing dog. Non judgemental, excellent service. The clinic is a fair way further than many others but we would not go anywhere else.

Negative experience: After having cat put to sleep I collected cats ashes and the bill was $580 which included a candle and framed print of cats paw. Very expensive.

Negative experience: It has taken awhile to post this review as I am not one to review places but I wanted others to be cautioned. I had an unfortunate experience with Colonel Light Veterinary Clinic that left me deeply dissatisfied with their service in August of 2023. I have bought my two cats to this vet for years and was always beyond satisfied with their service. I brought my beloved cat to their clinic seeking medical assistance, but I was met with a recommendation for euthanasia without exploring other treatment options. I was advised that I could take my cat to an emergency vet and the veterinarian said words to the effect of that this would cost a fortune. Fortunately, I sought a second opinion from another vet (not an emergency vet), who successfully treated my cat, leading to a full recovery and did not cost a fortune. My cat remains alive and healthy today. Instead of Colonel Light Veterinary Clinic recommending a blood test or putting my cat on fluids, they quickly jumped to the conclusion that euthanasia was the only viable option (this was booked in advanced for the coming days). This left me feeling helpless and devastated, as I firmly believed there were alternative treatments that could be explored. Thankfully, I decided to seek a second opinion from another veterinarian, and it was a decision that changed everything. The new vet took the time to conduct a comprehensive examination and ran additional tests. They recommended a treatment plan that was effective in restoring my cat's health. MY CAT HAD AN INFECTION THAT WAS TREATED WITH ANTIBIOTICS. I am immensely grateful to this second vet for their expertise and compassionate care. While I understand that veterinary medicine can be complex and diagnoses can vary, I expected a more thorough and compassionate approach. The lack of consideration for alternative treatments and the immediate recommendation for euthanasia was distressing and left me questioning their commitment to animal welfare. When I called to voice my concerns, I was met by deflection and advised that they observed the notes and the vet had advised me to go to the emergency vet if I wanted. Yes, this partial comment was in the notes but this was not the full conversation had. I wanted to handle the matter internally however my concerns were not heard and ultimately dismissed. In conclusion, my experience was disappointing. I would caution pet owners to carefully consider their options and seek a second opinion if faced with a similar situation. While every case is unique, it is crucial to find a veterinarian who will explore all available treatment options and prioritize the well-being of your beloved pets.

Positive experience: All vets and staff are very caring and professional with our small senior dog who now requires monthly injections. There seems to be a roster or rotation of vets and staff and we don’t get to know a regular practitioner although they’re all equally dedicated.

Fantastic experience: Have been going to this clinic with our previous dog Max who had to be put down in Apr this year. The service is good and the staff and vets are all very friendly and lovely. They even sent a little condolences card when Max was put down there. I've since got a new puppy and have taken Cody to the vet for his vaccinations and desex procedure. Fantastic experience: We took our cat there after we went to that horrid one on Marion road near Mitchell park . Our cat was nearly dead because of the miss diagnosis from that other vet. The vet was fantastic explained what was wrong the procedure needed and they hospitalized him. They are well priced and our cat is still alive a well. We now have 2 whippets as well which we now take there due to their great staff and pricing. We live at Strathalbyn and we still take our fur family there. Highly recommend them plus they have off street parking.

Fantastic experience: My little dog wasn't been well all week. She got worse early hours of this morning. I took her straight to Colonel light Gardens vet at 8am. (which is her regular vet clinic) I didn’t have an appointment and they saw her within 15 min of arriving. Very caring and understanding as I was so stressed and worried. Thank goodness it’s only a tummy bug and she will be ok. Was a very good price for a Saturday as well. Highly recommend this vet.

Negative experience: e have been using this practice for quite some time now even travelling for 20 minutes as they have always been very caring and always felt comfortable, unfortunately I had a bad experience recently and I wont go back, I did the right thing and called them to voice my concerns of the over charging and was not listened to and was told " we will speak to the staff member, how does that help me when I was told one price and staff member made an error, anyway they told me to come in for next injection and would not charge me the $32 consult fee which still wasn't what we were overcharged. I thought at least it was something, well when I went in, very cold no consult at all injection in 10 seconds and then I was stared at, I do wonder when you are told we "charge a consult because we need to check out the dog and ensure all is ok, well they were not interested how my dog went on the last injection and the care factor was thrown out the window, disappointed, they clearly are not set up for customer service, I thought they cared for my dog but not sure now, I believe I gave them the benefit by making the time to call and give them a chance before I posted I decided to attend another Practice who has my business now, such a shame, I did ask not once but twice about he charges, someone obviously decided I should pay more.. Frustrated...

After each appointment my family and I leave feeling like our pets have been cared for and that we are being looked after in an honest and compassionate manor. We tried going to another clinic when we moved an hour away but it wasn't the same, so now we just drive an hour to Colonel Light Gardens knowing we get the best affordable service and care right here. Fantastic experience: I have not had the best experience with finding the right vet however, colonel light is definitely the vet that my dogs will be going to from now on. I took my 7yr old greyhound (holly) to this clinic for surgery and I was so happy with everyone at the clinic. Both vets and nurses were very welcoming and caring which made Holly extremely comfortable for the first time in a vet clinic. Darren and Zoe who are the vets who looked after holly were extremely gentle and caring towards her. You can see they’re passionate about what they do. Very happy with my experience. Positive experience: We’ve been using this practice since we moved to Adelaide 14years ago. Always caring and can usually fit one of our babies in, in an emergency. However last time I rang to make an appointment the lady I spoke to on the phone was very rude, so now am not sure if I’ll keep going back to this clinic.

Negative experience: Took an abandoned /stray cat to Colonel Light Veterinary Surgery .The cat had an injury. Resulting in infection. Obviously in pain as well as starving. Staff were empathetic........poor cat . WHY ABANDON YOUR PET! Thanks to CLINIC for their care
