Negative experience: had been taking my dog here for the last 8 years. Its clear to see they have taken on way to many clients and dont have the staff to manage their demand. Your continually let down by inconsistent approach to ongoing treatment. Such a shame, as it was never like this prior to the sale of the business a few years ago. Wont be back

Fantastic experience: When we brought home our rescue dog Bluey, we didn’t have much information about her health. So when we woke up one morning to find her in excruciating pain in her back legs, I was completely overwhelmed. I called Southside Vets for the first time, and they took her in straight away that morning. Since then, they’ve been helping Bluey manage her painful arthritis with so much care and compassion. Steph at reception is an absolute gem! Always kind, helpful, and reassuring. Bluey loves her (and her treats) Thank you so much, team, for everything you do. ❤️

Fantastic experience: We just had to put down one of our dogs, a 16 year old Silky Maltese cross named Ellie. The vet and service lady were really helpful, understanding and full of care. Thank you for making it easier for us to overcome what had to be done.

Negative experience: Just witnessed a poor guy who had to make the hard decision of trying to organise to have his dog put down and asking for a vet to come to his house. Southside had no vets available and Instead of recommending another vet for this already hard decision, this poor man was told he can buy some drugs from their clinic and do it from home himself. I'm sorry but I just found that so insensitive! It was like she didn't want to loose out on making money for their clinic ! Could you imagine how horrific it would be to put down your own furbaby! Reply: That is not correct! He originally had the dog booked In to be brought into your clinic next week but is unable and didn't want the dog to be uncomfortable. Therefore asking if the vet was able to come to his place instead. I heard the whole conversation.

Fantastic experience: Robert and I, Wyn would like to thank Southside Veterinary Surgery, Dr Ellen and her valued staff, for their support and compassion on the passing of Evie. The practice had sent us a beautiful floral arrangement with their condolences. Such a beautiful thought, which we will treasure. Evie was a rescue dog, we were her 5th owners by the age of 4. We had 9 good years with Evie, she gave us so much joy, love and happiness as we did for her also. Evie was diagnosed with heart block, several years ago. Dr Danyll, was her 1st vet at Southside Veterinary Surgery and when Danyll left, Dr Ellen took over her care. We have been associated with Southside Veterinary Surgery going way back to the mid 1990 when Dr Helen and Dr Wade were the owners of the practice, apart from 14 years when we lived in Mareeba. That is where, we first met Dr Danyll who was doing her prac work in Mareeba. Dr Ellen and her team have always been very supportive of our dogs care, as we have another Tibetan spaniel dog, who is also a rescue dog. Dr Ellen always explained the care and tests that were available, also the costing and was respectful of our wishes, which was to keep Evie comfortable, happy and enjoying her little life. We even acquired a pram for when Evie went on walks and when she had had enough, walking, she was put in her chariot. She loved socializing and seeing the world from her pram. RIP little one. Fantastic experience: The team were great. Only ones who made time for me to bring my baby in especially when he was in dire need! It has now been some weeks and he is doing amazingly well! He’s full of life again and his hair has grown back. Sergi is a tough man! Thanks for the effort team and keep it up!

Fantastic experience: I called in a panic close to closing time on a Saturday to unfortunately put our very sick cat down (our typical vet was overseas). The staff went above and beyond to help us get him in right away and were so caring and compassionate during a very difficult time. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism and kind hearts.

They helped organize my boys cremation and sent me a card full of comforting messages from all the staff. Thank you all so much.

Positive experience: My 2yr old cattle was seen for the first time today, after swapping vets yearly injection. He was not growling or aggressive maybe anxiety out a bit. My complaint is usually he has his injection with me in the room . Vet took him out of the room muzzle him up without advising she was going to do this. My dog has never needed or been muzzle. I would of appreciated her advising me this was going to be done. Her actions scared my dog. If this was what she felt she needed to do. I would of muzzled him myself and held him whilst she gave the injection. Took me by surprise and very upset.

Negative experience: Never again, they are worst then a mechanic, if you would listen to them.... you would end up coming all year long every week, so they can siphon your hard earned money. I will not come back. Worst then salesman. Instead of going straight to the root cause, you take 100 different approach which obviously does not solve anything, just siphon more money... No thanks, not again.

Fantastic experience: Took our cat here as she was acting a bit off. She had some needles and a blood test. Dr Tony was a terrific guy who listened to what my girlfriend and i had to say. Our cat Skittles was very well behaved..lets hope its nothing bad.

The entire team have been wonderful but I have to special mention Dr Alice for not only looking after my furbaby but looking after me today (which was definitely just as hard of a job) you are amazing thank you! and Dr Ellen for taking such good care of my baby in surgery! Hoping for a fast recovery for him as he’s still currently having a sleepover at the clinic ❤️‍

Negative experience: My first comment was in the moment and I was quite emotional so I do apologise for that. When I found him on the street he just seemed so much like a fighter so I high hopes he would be fine. But it doesn’t matter anymore, thanks for trying but I do still believe my point on communication is something your clinic can work on.

Positive experience: Felt like a sales pitch and clearly had upsell intentions, explained we provide EVERYTHING regularly, still had a pitch for sprays, collars, worming, ticks, diseases not yet in cairns... wasted 15min of the dog panicking and then as pressured into providing further tests and worming - solely as saying no to a vet is difficult. We’ll find a new place.

Negative experience: Very expensive. A lot of unnecessary add ons and misinformation.

Positive experience: Difficult to book. Good care but most if the time overcharged. Last time I asked the charge for my 7 yo 17kg dog for teeth clean. I were quoted over $1000 and then I got it done another place sane procedure $250. I decided to leave Southside then.

To show price difference, I was quoted $118 at one vet near me, and one other at $90. Then I called these guys and was quoted $70 for the consultation. Amazing difference. Fantastic experience: Such an amazing vet clinic. We moved to Cairns early last year and were nervous about finding a new vet clinic for our baby girl. But feel so comfortable taking her to this clinic. They have a cat consultation room which is so amazing, and we've always been able to wait in the cat room until the vet is ready to see us. Which keeps our girl so much calmer and is a way less stressful wait than if we were in the waiting room with dogs etc. We've seen Helen both times and she is so professional and just such a lovely person. You can tell she loves animals and her job. The receptionists and nurses are always so helpful and friendly as well! 10/10 would recommend for your fur baby

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend the staff at Southside Veterinary Surgery. Every single staff member has been so informative, welcoming and caring towards myself and my beloved Kirk (an elderly male cat). They are "cat-friendly" and allow you to take your feline friend into a cat-only consultation room separate from dogs, as shown in the picture attached. Dr Ellen has taken special care of my old boy and has been so thorough and attentive in supporting him through his final years. Kirk has had to visit the vet at least 4 times this year and while the medical support has been impeccable, the fees have also been manageable (miniscule when compared to the quality of care Kirk receives).

Amazing place with amazing people who care so much about your furchild like they were Thier own. Helped us so much when our dog needed expensive surgery.. Our Ellie is much on the mend ,doing beautifully, and that's because of all the wonderful work and surgery these amazing people do.. Cannot recommend highly enough. Will always use this practice and will always recommend this caring veterinary.. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fantastic experience: Love the staffs and their efficiency. Whenever my fur baby was sick, they asked me to drop her off early in the mornings and checked on her when their doctors got time in between. They were very helpful and never asked me to do extra things for my baby.
