Fantastic experience: We have been going to the Bird Vet, Burwood since we moved into the area five years ago. Dr Shereni Joshi and the Vet team have taken care of our dog and two cats in an approachable, very caring and professional manner. Dr Joshi always makes time to explain a situation.Their diagnoses are spot on and we are very happy that our animals are patients of this Vet Clinic.

Negative experience: Initially, we were happy with the service provided. However, over time, we became increasingly concerned about the consistency of advice and treatment recommendations for our exotic bird, particularly our Eclectus parrot. We received contradictory opinions from different veterinarians within the same clinic regarding diet, treatment approaches, and overall management. This inconsistency made it difficult to feel confident in the care being provided. We also felt that there were instances where treatment recommendations seemed excessive, which further impacted our trust. Ultimately, due to these concerns, we decided to seek care elsewhere for the sake of our parrot’s health.

Fantastic experience: The incredible care given to all my little budgies, from all the staff, when I take them for health checks, leaves me with peace of mind. Nothing is ever rushed and if anything is wrong with one of them, Dr Phil always explains the problem carefully and suggests what should be done and the cost so you can make an informed decision. I highly recommend Bird Vet Melbourne.

Fantastic experience: Brought my 9 week old African Grey Louie in as he was not eating. Dr Phil was knowledgeable, kind and ensured he explained everything thoroughly. My go to Avian vet. Have always had a positive experience with Dr Phil.

Negative experience: Yesterday I found an injured myna bird and cared for it all day and overnight. I looked after it closely and it had come to me for safety. The next day I brought it here because I thought they would treat and help it. Unfortunately, after reading the reviews, I feel extremely upset and worried. Many people say that injured birds handed in here are euthanised. What’s even worse is that you are not allowed to come back and take the bird yourself, even if you want to continue caring for it. You are given a form to sign stating that once you hand the animal over, you cannot follow up and they have no responsibility to update you about the animal’s condition or outcome. I find this cruel and heartbreaking. I couldn’t sleep all night from guilt, thinking I should never have brought the bird here and should have kept caring for it myself. I will keep this mind on all my life. I also have a strong feeling that no real attempt was made to treat it. I truly believe the poor bird was euthanised. Her name was (Gift) I have pet I can not forgive myself never never. What makes this even more distressing is that I asked about this and was told they “don’t euthanise,” yet multiple reviews say staff have told other people that euthanasia did happen, and some people overheard it from reception. I understand difficult decisions may sometimes be necessary, but the lack of transparency, refusing to return the bird, and asking people to sign away any right to updates is incredibly distressing. People deserve clear, honest information before handing over an injured animal. If you didn’t euthanize the bird please let me come and take her, I cried all my day and night.

Fantastic experience: Phil was clear, kind, knowledgeable and deeply understanding of the human to animal connection. I know my little Silkie Bantam Yeti is in the best hands to recover, and that is a very good feeling.

Negative experience: I am deeply saddened to share my experience. I took my budgie to Dr. Phil because he wasn’t flying as high as usual and seemed heavier than other budgies. During our first visit, the diet was changed, but there was no improvement. When we returned with the same concern, he said it could just be normal fat and suggested a blood test to check further. We trusted his advice. He took my budgie to another room for the test, and shortly after came back and told us, “Sorry, he passed.” I still cannot understand how a small bird can suddenly die during a routine blood test. Budgies have very little blood, and such procedures must be handled with extreme care. It is hard not to question whether too much blood was taken or if something went wrong during the procedure. And he kept insisting it wasn’t his mistake and that our bird simply couldn’t make it. Just before the test, our budgie had been active and playful with another bird. We never imagined something like this could happen from a diagnostic test. This was a heartbreaking experience, and I hope no other pet owner has to go through such a loss under similar circumstances.

Fantastic experience: Have come here a few times for both emergency and non-emergency appointments and have had nothing but good experiences from the team at Bird Vet Melbourne! I've seen Dr Ruth and Dr Shereni who are both very kind and expert bird vets. We always feel our feathered friends are in the safest hands when we visit. The nursing staff are fantastic also, they always have very clear and concise instructions for any at-home care. In addition they are affordable and communicate well about any costs of the service. Fantastic experience: I visited Bird and Animal Vet Burwood today with my guinea pigs, Chukuru and Bukuru, for their rabies vaccination and microchipping for travel to Sri Lanka. The staff were incredibly kind, friendly, and welcoming. The doctor was so gentle and caring ..she even trimmed my guinea pigs’ nails, which is something I always found very difficult to do myself. I really appreciated the extra care and patience shown. Such a lovely place with genuinely compassionate people. Highly recommend for anyone with small or exotic pets.

Our bird got a ‘makeover’ check and we left with some new bird toys which she is loving playing with and lots of great information on best foods to support her diet. Fantastic experience: Dr. Phil and all the staff are wonderful, caring and professional. They saved our lovebird "Buzzy" following a stroke. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they are never too busy to answer questions regarding the patient. Buzzy has to have regular beak trims and Dr. Phil does an amazing job. Fantastic experience: We live in another state and needed advice from an avian vet regarding a duckling, who is now close to 12 weeks old, whose bill was snapped at hatching by her hatch mummy. There are no dedicated avian vets anywhere near us and I had seen a news article regarding repairing beaks on other birds that featured this clinic. We received thorough and well considered advice on what our best course of action would be for Schnapps. Turns out she's doing quite well on her own with the help we give her but it was reassuring to hear that she looks great and is growing well. Thank-you for taking the time to help this worried duck Mum do what's best for her duckling.

Fantastic experience: Unfortunately I’ve had to make a few visits to the Burwood Bird vet in recent times. Fortunately the treatment they offered was successful. I’ve dealt with Dr Shereni Joshi on all occasions and she has been wonderful. She has a kind and compassionate bedside manner which is so important especially when the situation one is dealing with can be quite stressful. I first went there over 15 years ago and took my galah which was attended to by Dr Phil, another great vet. I will keep going back.

Fantastic experience: I am a new bird owner and took my little budgie, Pearl, to Bird Vet Melbourne as she was vomiting. The initial consultation was with Dr Phil. He was so wonderful and explained all the possible scenarios of why she might be vomiting. Pearl had to stay in for a few days while they investigated and monitored her. Each morning one of the vets called me to give an update and let me know next steps. It was great. I got a lot of excellent information on how to better care for Pearl around her nutrition and environment. I'm so grateful to all the staff. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: These guys are awesome. On my first I noticed Dr Philip really knows his stuff and take his time to show you how to do the after care on your companion bird. My teil had some Trauma left wing from a night fright. Didn't flog medication. Nor any other sales pitch. He just was concerned for the birds care. Clinic is easy to find and navigate to. Easily parking. I have now been going to Burwood with all my birds for over 5 years No complaints. Kelly, phil and Ruth are the vets I book with and are awesome.

Fantastic experience: This bird vet is great. Everyone is really professional and mostly very friendly. I’ve already brought my birds here five times for check-ups and tests, and every time I feel really confident in their care. Both of my Quaker parrots got their blood tests done without anaesthetic, which made me feel so much safer knowing there was no sedation involved. I really like Dr Kelly. I’ve only had two appointments with her, but she’s so knowledgeable, gentle, patient, and gives really helpful nutrition advice. I honestly recommend her so much. Overall, this is a bird vet I really trust, and I’m very thankful for how well they look after my birds.

Fantastic experience: I can’t recommend Burwood Bird Vet highly enough. The entire team is caring, compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable. I travel all the way to Burwood from the northern suburbs because I truly trust them with my birds’ health. They are honest, transparent, and never push unnecessary tests or treatments. It’s clear that their priority is always the wellbeing of the bird, not profit. I’m grateful to have found a clinic that genuinely puts my Birds first.

Positive experience: Overall people at bird vet were very good. But just had a negative experience with one vet just this specific individual. They decided to give a bandage for my cockatiels foot injury but they didn't tell me this decision would have the side effect of exacerbating swelling in the foot. They put the bandage on tightly and it exacerbated the swelling. They said they knew it would happen and didn't want to give bandage and blamed me for this decision and said it was my fault. I didn't know that would happen and had i known I wouldn't have consented to it. I was even worried and called the next day but the clinic told me if we took off the bandage their treatment wouldnt work, so i trusted them and i felt betrayed when in hindsight they blamed me for trusting in their treatment plan. I would appreciate if that vet would inform their patients of side effects of making decisions like this before administering treatments and not blame patients for the aftermath of decisions when we come to the vet with the expectation they have qualified medical knowledge to make informed decisions in the best interests of our pets. You'd expect that duty of care from doctors so I don't see why this vet behaved like that. It was quite unprofessional and made me lose complete confidence in trusting this person and their discretion. But again the other people and vets at this clinic were above average in terms of service and being professional so this experience with this one individual is not reflective of the overall place which has otherwise been very supportive and caring. I'm more than happy to seek a different vet at the same clinic as I've found Kelly to be much more reliable and professional in her conduct.

Fantastic experience: I have been taking my canary (Lucy) to Bird Vet Melbourne for almost 3 yrs. now and all the staff that I have dealt with were extremely helpful, friendly and very caring. Dr Phil is very knowledgeable. The first time a took my canary into the bird vet Dr Phil suggested that I get a larger flight cage and remove the thin dowel perches from the cage and replace them with more comfortable natural tree perches because the thin dowel perches were too hard and not suitable for a canary's overall health. So, once I replaced the cage and perches, the difference that I have seen in Lucy is amazing she is so much happier and energetic. I would never have known this if it wasn't for Dr Phil. Canaries make really good pets, very easy to look after and are very good company and calming when they sing. We leave her cage open when she is indoors so she can fly in and out of the cage whenever she wants. She loves eating fresh grass seeds lettuce and canary food mix purchased from bird vet, but her favorite is a plain roll which she will only eat from a particular Vietnamese bakery in our area, and I have to lightly toast for her otherwise she will not eat it (she's very fussy but it keeps her occupied for ages) I had to build her an outer cage when we take her outside on the verandah because the very aggressive butcher birds on one occasion almost killed her by attacking her through the gaps in the cage. We found a canary singing on YouTube almost identical looking to Lucy, and when we go out, we put it on for her on repeat and she fly's to the TV and sings with it so this keeps her occupied and happy. Negative experience: The online prescription medication ordering process is terrible. I was promised delivery via express post would be 3 days. It’s now been 8 days and still no delivery. Appalling level of service.

We met with Dr. Ruth Barrett, who was incredibly kind, professional, and gentle with Lumi. He had been unwell, and I wasn’t sure to what extent until Dr. Ruth examined him and explained everything clearly. She took the time to diagnose what was going on, show me the issues, and educate me on the best way to help Lumi recover and stay healthy going forward. Dr. Ruth also shared really helpful tips and further education on diet and care practices, which gave me so much more confidence as a new bird owner. The whole team at Bird Vet Melbourne was welcoming, understanding, and supportive from start to finish. If you’re going to the vet for the first time or feeling nervous, don’t be, you and your bird will be in excellent hands here. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I thank the team at Bird Vet Melbourne everyday for what they did to help our Mr Bird. Mr Bird suffered a tragic cat attack back in late February. Fantastic experience: We have visited Burwood vets for two seperate urgent dentals, both to unfortunately repair a fractured canine in our staffy, Hazel. Not only have the amazing team there been able to squeeze us in the very next day on both occasions, but they are incredibly professional, explaining the procedures in great detail and providing accurate cost estimates. The reception staff are lovely, professional, and quick help out in any way they can. I have left exceptionally satisfied after both visits - they are reasonably priced and one of the only vets that our staffy genuinely seems to enjoy visiting. If we didn’t live so far away, Burwood Vets would be our go-to vet. Thanks again team, hopefully no more dental fractures in Hazels future!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Burwood Bird Vet and the whole team. They are amazing with anesthetic protocols and dentals for dogs! Clients leave after the procedure with their dogs happy and energetic instead of groggy and disorientated! All of our customers which we refer to these guys are always put at ease and highly satisfied with their expertise!

Negative experience: Very unprofessional service. BE AWARE OF THIS PLACE, TOTAL SCAM ALERT!!! They ask you if you want to conduct any test for your birds, but they fail to mention it’s an extra charge! Upon checkout we were going to be charged an extra $120 on top of the consultation fee. The vet did not mention the price of the test, he was too busy giving us and the Uni student a lecture about the budgies. The receptionist got angry and frustrated and told us that “that we are no longer welcome at the clinic” when I disputed the extra charge! I do not recommend this place and STAY AWAY!!!!!

Fantastic experience: I took my sick little budgie here this week. Dr Phil (and the other vets I spoke to on the phone) was thoughtful, compassionate, and pragmatic - and really helped to coach me through a series of difficult decisions. Through the whole process you could tell they really cared about my tiny little bird and wanted the best outcome for her (and for me). I appreciated that Dr Phil wasn't judgemental when I asked lots of questions, and he took a lot of time to explain the risks and costs of the different treatment options. You could tell she was well cared for by the staff. The fees were very reasonable, too.

Fantastic experience: Staff are friendly and have fantastic avian experince. Staff really do care for the best welfare of patients. No over selling or being pushy, just great advice and knowledge to share. They also do so much more than we know in the background to care/treat/rescue/train and look after birds along with other animals needing help. I would not take my Eclectus anywhere else for assessment, treatment and boarding.

Fantastic experience: Kelly looked after my Rainbow Lorikeet today. She gave me great advice about his diet his cage setup and sleep patterns, every thing really. Really enjoyed going to the clinic- highly recommend this practice.

Fantastic experience: We are so grateful to Dr Phil for giving our pet chicken, Sarah, a fantastic, extended quality of life, despite living with a chronic heart condition. I first took Sarah here nearly 3 years ago, when I noticed she was experiencing shortness of breath. Dr Phil diagnosed her with heart disease, and started Sarah on medications which relieved her breathing difficulties, and greatly improved her energy levels. Amazingly, Sarah is still active and happy now, at 11 years of age, thanks to being given her medications twice a day. While this is a commitment, we see Sarah as an equal member of the family to our other pets, and equally worthy of the best care possible. Dr Phil and the other staff at this clinic always impress me with their warmth, expertise, genuine care and dedication. I can trust them to be gentle and experienced when handling Sarah, and for any procedures, so that her visits to the vet are stress free. I travel over 80 km each way to come here, and consider it well worth it. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I found Birdy in my garden 11 years ago this year, and she has become such a huge part of my family. Our vet has helped Birdy get the most out of her life at her age. With the wide range of Bird products they stock, we've created an enriching home for Birdy, as she can no longer fly or see very well. The vets at the clinic express love and care for animals, and I feel comfortable knowing that Birdy shows minimal stress during her vet visits. They have always gone above and beyond to address Birdy's needs.

Fantastic experience: They’re great. Multiple surgeries on my greyhounds and their pre work gives me confidence and their follow up assurances me their doing great by my pups. Dental experience is top notch. I drive across town just to have my puppies dentals here. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I have nothing but pure love for this clinic. When I first came here, it was to receive a secondary opinion after taking my sweet baby boy to Lort Smith, who said he just had a minor concussion after a night fright (in a typical cockatiel fashion), but when I took Sesame to the Bird Vet, I was met with nothing but compassion, and a thorough exam of Sesame told us he had fractured the tip of his wing. Since then, Sesame has made a full recovery, thanks to the wonderful team at the Bird Vet, however, this is not the reason for my review today. Today, I took in my little rascal (Sesame) to be screened (he received a PCR Chlamydia, PBFD and a fecal test) so he could go on a round of birdie speed dating! Prior to taking him in today, he was very nervous, but to my joy, we were taking him to see the fabulous Dr. Phil, who was quick to give him lots of cuddles, being very patient and kind to my little guy. Dr Phil is very kind, down to earth and extremely knowledgeable, always happy to answer my many questions about anything bird related. Sesame was handled with the utmost care and kindness from Dr Phil, and I can say with my whole chest that the team at this clinic is nothing short of phenomenal. They are extremely inviting, kind and you can tell they love what they do. The specialists here are so beyond worth the money they charge, 10/10 from us :-)

Fantastic experience: Dr. Phil Sacks did a wonderful beak trimming to my bird Mr. B. You can easily see the different before and after photos of the trimming. Highly recommend Pet Vet to look after your pet. They even have Wellness Programs to regularly take care of your birds, cats and dogs.

Fantastic experience: First time visiting this place and the front desk customer service was excellent. The vet we seen was very thorough and professional. I would recommend that you take your pets to this vet for regular check ups or concerns.
