The Animal Hospital At Murdoch University: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Top quality service from the reception, staff trainee Kate and doctor Tim. We sent our kitten there who needed medical attention .
Fantastic experience: This whole story began with a trip to a doggy dermatologist to diagnose major hair loss on our little corgi, Hollie. They say every cloud has a silver lining Well now I'm a big fan of that saying because if Hollie did not have the hair loss around her neck we would not have as easily noticed a lump(tumor) growing on her thyroid. Im thinking of how we first reacted, and we were completely devastated and confused about where to take her and who was going to give her the best care. Basically, we wanted to find somewhere with not just expertise but kindness for Hollie where she was not just a patient. we scoured reviews, and we came down to 2 options, waves in success and PVS in Osborne Park. We decided on Pvs because Success was too far for us to travel, and thank God we did because hollie got to be treated by Doctor Albert Thomas. Let me continue by just saying the Hollie hates hates hates going to the vet and she is usually a quivering mess and a lot of my anxiety was going to be having to leave her in a place that terrified her, but I can honestly say every one of the nursing staff we dealt with along with all of the Doctors Hollie just loved she actually sat on Dr Thomas's lap for a physical We couldn't believe it. It was agreed that Hollie would get 6 doses of chemo, with scans in between, which hollie dealt with pretty well, and she did not have any huge reaction. Maybe a couple of times, she needed anti nausea meds, but nothing major. The pee and poo situation because of the chemo was inconvenient but manageable. A bit of advice if they suggest doing a heartscan, please do it because they did notice a slight discrepancy on hollies heart, and they changed the chemo to suit the situation. Pvs Oncology closed, and Dr. Thomas moved to Murdoch Animal Hospital, and you can bet we followed him. It's a bit of a commute, but it's so worthwhile. Again, the same old trends, everybody is so lovely there, and Dr. Thomas is just a god send. I took Hollie for her 3 months scan, and I don't want to say too much, but Dr Thomas left her next appointment open-ended, and that's in a good way. To all the staff at Murdoch Animal hospital and Pvs in Osborne park Your kindness shone through in a huge way we saw it Hollie sensed it and because of that all of you have made a terrible situation so much easier thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Fantastic experience: I called and they told me to come down immediately when he was vomiting. They looked after my boy amazingly well and were super gentle with him as he’s quite scared at the vet. They did radiographs and a scope to retrieve a foreign body - which saves him the grief of a surgery. Everyone from the emergency department to the medicine department efficiently got my boy better. Special thank you to Dr Cherry Lee who was super compassionate and understanding of how stressed I was, and let me spend extra time with him before his procedure. Also for reception for putting his insurance through. Couldn’t thank everyone enough ❤️ ⬛
Fantastic experience: The oncology team, particularly Albert and Kirsty, are super knowledgeable and compassionate. Would highly recommend putting your trust in them.
Fantastic experience: Awesome doctors surgeons and nursing staff. Highly recommend everything from general yearly checkups to Major surgeries at a reasonable price with Australia’s best specialist only metres away. Your yearly check up is made super easy for your ageing for a baby.
Positive experience: Friendly staff, usually no long waits.
Fantastic experience: The most compassionate and genuine veterinary team I’ve ever encountered. A week ago, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanise my beloved dog, Lamb, who was facing stage 5 lymphatic cancer. It was one of the hardest moments of my life, and the team at Murdoch Veterinary Hospital showed an incredible level of compassion, dignity, and genuine care — not only for Lamb, but for me as well. Lamb was a strong boy who would have fought until his last breath, and I am forever grateful that they helped ease his pain peacefully and gently. What truly set this place apart was that they put Lamb’s wellbeing before anything else. I was turned away by several other organisations, even those meant to help in times like these, simply because of my financial hardship. Murdoch Vet Hospital didn’t once make me feel judged or dismissed. They simply cared — truly cared — about a dog in pain. In a world where compassion can be hard to find, this team reminded me that kindness still exists. They treated Lamb with respect and dignity in his final moments, and I will never forget the comfort they gave us both. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for helping my boy pass peacefully and for showing such humanity in a moment when I desperately needed it.
Fantastic experience: Had to rush our sweet little puppy to the hospital after hours and the vets were just brilliant. Shout out to Bella and Joey who treated our dog with such gentle and professional care and took their time to answer our questions. We left understanding the issue and feeling reassured. These vets genuinely care for animals and understand how important pets are to their family .
Fantastic experience: Thank you to the team at Murdoch Emergency Vet Hospital for their amazing customer service. Genuinely lovely staff and vets. You helped make the experience way less stressful for me and my pup. Much appreciated.
Fantastic experience: My nephew's 8 yr old dog was referred to the hospital by EVH in Wangara for specialised treatment, scans and care. What a great team of vets! Thank you for all you did for Rocco. He's a happy boy now after recovery. My nephew read something in the waiting room about the vet suicide rate being 4 times higher than any other business. Broke my heart hearing this. Just want to remind you that you guys are heroes and thank you for all that you do for everyone's pets
Fantastic experience: If you’re feeling unsure about going to a new vet… THIS is the one you go to. I brought my dog ICE in to get help with her foot to see what’s wrong, previously she had been taken to 3 different vets and had already had 3 different surgery’s on her foot and was extremely neglected by all the vets, I was so desperate to fix her foot so she can live a happy quality of life. Murdoch is the FIRST and ONLY vet that we’re actually able to diagnose and help her. ALL the vets, every single one was so understanding and friendly even the 2 lady’s at reception were so lovely. Ice had a very difficult foot surgery and was a difficult dog given her size and her being a farm dog so being quite nervous around people and other dogs, and yet they did everything to accommodate her. After 4 years of searching help for Ices foot, Murdoch was the first to actually help her and put the animals needs first. Ice is able to walk again which she wasn’t able to before and is so happy thanks to this group of vets. I also want to give Millie credit where do as she even came in on her day off just to see how Ice was going and for that I’ll be forever grateful. ⭐️
Fantastic experience: I would like to thank Dr. Jennifer. We went on Sunday night because our dog had a problem with one of her eyes, it was red, kind of stuck looking to one side, rolling back, and she wasn’t acting normally. Dr. Jennifer performed a thorough examination, checked everything properly, asked us questions, and really listened to us. She reached a diagnosis quickly and effectively. We left with clear answers, a treatment plan, and our dog feeling visibly better. We are very grateful for her professionalism and knowledge. We truly wish all professionals were like her.
Fantastic experience: came here late on a sunday night to get our dog looked at, receptionist was polite and Dr jenny took her time to check and explain everything and found the cause of the problem thankyou!
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff. Very knowledgeable
Fantastic experience: I have always taken my dogs to Murdoch because they triage immediately and care is immediate. The vets are thorough and nurses caring and friendly. I trust their judgement to attend to the animals in order of the seriousness of the individual not order of arrival.
Fantastic experience: Very happy with the team at Murdoch, they were extremely professional as well as very caring, they treated my horse with great care ,they relayed the diagnosis to us in terms we could understand, and the treatments available, also an upfront quote for costs which were very reasonable , thankyou Kerren and Meoquanee .
Fantastic experience: Hello, I can’t thank Murdoch University Veterinary Hospital enough for helping save my baby, Chloe (a 5-year-old chihuahua). The care and compassion they showed throughout her treatment meant so much to me. A special thank you to Dr Ivan, who went above and beyond, he was soo kind, patient, and genuinely cared about Chloe’s wellbeing. The entire team was amazing too, always friendly and understanding, even when I called constantly with questions and worries. Same with the beautiful nurses getting her to eat being such a picky eater Thank you all so so much for giving Chloe the best care possible, I’m forever grateful ❤️
Fantastic experience: My puppy required orthopaedic surgery and The Animal Hospital were great. We had our appointment, with scans done that day. Surgery was booked for the following day and after care was great as well. Will be taking her back for further surgery in a few months time.
Negative experience: I recently visited Murdoch Vet Hospital after my dog, Daisy, was diagnosed with a heart hemangiosarcoma during an ultrasound (USS). She was referred to their oncology department, and while our initial appointment was scheduled for mid-October, the hospital called back a few hours later to bring the appointment forward. When I asked why the appointment was expedited and whether Daisy’s condition was acute, the staff avoided giving a direct answer, instead advising us to take her to the emergency department if her condition deteriorated. This lack of clarity left us anxious and uncertain. On the day of the appointment, the oncologist spent over an hour discussing Daisy’s diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment options. We were presented with two paths: chemotherapy, which wouldn't cure her but could prolong her life for a few months with potential discomfort, or palliative care. The prognosis with chemo was grim—less than four months—and we were advised to consider euthanasia sooner rather than later to prevent Daisy from experiencing a painful death. After careful consideration, my partner and I decided against chemotherapy, as Daisy had already endured many surgeries in her life, and we wanted her remaining time to be as peaceful as possible. A few hours after the consultation, the oncologist called back, saying she had reviewed Daisy’s USS images with a radiologist. They suggested the tumor might not be located in the right atrium, which could mean it was not the most aggressive type of cancer. She recommended another USS or possibly a CT scan to confirm the tumor’s location. I was incredibly frustrated at this point—why hadn’t the oncologist reviewed the initial USS images before our consultation? It made me question whether this would have even been reviewed if we had agreed to chemotherapy during the consultation. The situation started to feel very commercial, as though they were pushing for expensive scans and treatments. What upset me even more was the response when I asked if the USS could be done without sedation. I was concerned about the toll sedation would take on Daisy’s heart, especially given her condition, and I offered to hold and calm her during the procedure. However, they refused, stating it wasn’t possible due to their back-to-back appointments. Feeling like I had no other option, I reluctantly agreed to book the USS/CT scan, even though it added to my stress and Daisy’s discomfort. From the time I booked the appointment to the aftermath of the consultation, I felt poorly informed and unsupported. The entire experience was emotionally draining—I couldn’t sleep, eat, or work because of the anxiety and lack of clarity. Thankfully, Daisy’s regular vet stepped in and offered to perform a USS without sedation, confirming the tumor’s location. While the prognosis remains the same, I now have a clear plan: to monitor Daisy’s condition, manage her symptoms with medication, and ensure her final days are as comfortable as possible. I feel relieved to know her regular vet will help us when the time comes to say goodbye. This is just my personal experience. I acknowledge that Murdoch Vet Hospital has advanced equipment and a skilled medical team, but I wouldn’t recommend them unless you are planning to pursue chemotherapy or aggressive treatment. For us, the focus is on giving Daisy a peaceful and dignified end-of-life experience, and I didn’t feel that Murdoch Vet Hospital aligned with that goal.
Negative experience: Wish I could give negative stats! They pull on your emotions bleed you dry of money give 0 or false results nor will they share your own dogs results with you even after spending thousands of dollars with them! Thank goodness my normal vet is on the ball and we were able to help my baby and find out what was wrong! She’s now doing so much better no thanks to Murdoch!
Fantastic experience: Saved our dogs life. These guys have amazing staff in all regards - from the friendly and compassionate front desk crew, to the incredible intensivist Charmaine that handled the case and kept us completely in the loop while managing a very sick dog and no doubt a lot of other patients, to the top-notch surgical crew that extracted a massive putrid gall bladder safely from our already-elderly dog.
Fantastic experience: Amazing care of our little man, all the Vets and Staff were so kind and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Our Sir Gallahad was saved by the team of doctors and students of the hospital. A life threatening condition was diagnosed during a referral specialist visit, and an immediate surgery performed. We are immensely grateful to the whole team for their care, attention and professionalism.
Fantastic experience: Our vet closed half way through our cats Chemotherapy treatment and we were transferred here. Throughout the entire treatment with Murdoch Animal Hospital they have been super kind and informative, and our cat has been in great hands. Thank you so much!
Fantastic experience: Very caring and professional. I trust their expertise, it has been earned.
Fantastic experience: Very caring and professional. A true credit to vetinary care.
Fantastic experience: Staff were absolutely brilliant and non judgemental! Met by Zoe who listened to concerns about our dog and updated us as we waited to see a vet. Dr Hugh Broun attended to our dog and methodically worked through possibilities to rule them out, and communicated his findings throughout the consult. The staff are professional and kind. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Kind sympathetic staff during a sad traumatic passing of a very much loved pet known to the Murdoch University students and staff. Quiet soothing room offered during a time of grief. Private access for the family to depart.
Fantastic experience: Very helpful, caring and informative staff. Would highly recommend
Positive experience: Wonderful facility all the staff were kind caring and did a great job. Thankyou xx
Fantastic experience: Amazing team of highly qualified and professional vets, students, nurses, and admin. Thank you for taking such good care of my dog.
Negative experience: I recently visited Murdoch Animal Hospital with my young dog, who was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. Sadly, my experience was very disappointing. Despite clear signs of pain (including limping, spasms, and major behavioural changes that resolved once his activity was adjusted), the specialist dismissed my concerns, saying they couldn’t link his behaviour to his diagnosis. They also claimed to have done a full physical exam—which wasn’t possible, as my dog does not allow unfamiliar handling, and no thorough exam was performed. On top of this, during an extremely emotional time for me (as I had just undergone fertility treatment), the specialist made deeply insensitive comments about my plans for a baby and my dog’s behaviour. This added unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation. I would strongly encourage anyone seeking compassionate, thorough care to be aware of this experience. I hope in the future more understanding and care is given to both pets and their owners.
Fantastic experience: I rushed my cat there from another vet with a suspected snake bite. They immediately got him in and started working on him to ensure he was okay. They took every step possible to ensure that he wasn’t too stressed and walked me through the process. They provided me with options I could take if it was a bite, seeking out different treatments and payments. Thankfully it wasn’t a snake bite and I was able to bring him home that night ♥️ I felt supported and reassured the entire time. The team was absolutely lovely. 10/10 recommend !
Fantastic experience: A big thank you to all the vets, nurses and staff members at The Animal Hospital At Murdoch University for saving my 2 year old dog's life. Daisy May got her paws in 50 pack ibprufen and ate about 30 tablets and we rushed her to the emergency and the prompt treatment the vets and specialist provided along with the ongoing supportive care provided by the nurses with the additional love, care, attention and cuddle my baby girl got during their care. She is now back home after 5 long days stay at the hospital. She has made it and it's all thanks to the AHM team.
Negative experience: My lovely boxer was in care at this hospital in the emergency department and I cannot thank the staff enough for looking after her during her last moments but there is one thing the system terribly failed: no scans during the weekends as radiologists don't work during weekends. Massive failure of an emergency hospital !!!!!
Fantastic experience: Very grateful for Dr Logan McPherson, she is a brilliant vet. It was such a relief to know my dog was in good hands. She was very patient - answering all my questions and even took the time to type everything up for me so that I had a good understanding of what was going on and what the treatment options were so that I could relay the information to my family. So impressed with the care she provided to my pet. Thank you Logan!
Negative experience: I was referred to this veterinary for my dogs surgery. Had a date locked in, drugged my dog with the pills worth about $100 as requested by the referring dermatologist. After arriving and waiting for an hour and a half had a surgeon come out to the carpark and tell us that she wasn't doing the surgery today. This less than 3 minute interaction then was billed at $248.00 as a consult. When later asked if I had a consult I answered NO as didn't think this minimal conversation was considered a consult. Needless to say after asking for this fee to be removed I was told it is classed as a consult and the fee stands. Very unhappy with the costing here as a quote was given of 6.5k to 7k max and the total was nearly 8k.
Fantastic experience: I am so grateful to Dr. Sabrina and the whole team at Murdoch Animal Hospital. They understood the urgency of my dog's condition and fit him in right away when no other specialist centre would. He needed to stay for a week and a half and they were very empathetic and accountable the entire time providing daily updates on his well-being and helping keep costs as affordable as possible when a stay that long is needed. Thanks so much from Leah and Bonzai.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this place, and so does my little Staffy! Dr. Fleur is fantastic—she’s been looking after us for a while now and knows my dog inside out. The students are always extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and I actually enjoy being interviewed by them. It’s a really welcoming and professional environment, and I wouldn’t take my dog anywhere else. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: These docs take any bird that we volunteers of the WA Sea Bird Rescue bring in. They do amazing work.
Fantastic experience: Brought in a rat that was living in the garden behind a fence, it had been poisoned by a neighbour and was found on our drive. Never bothered us or made a mess. The staff seemed to really care and were happy to take it in and have a look at it. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Our 10 year Teddy baby is saved from this wonderful place, Dr. Sharmae, Dr. Jing and so many nurses with their love and skill helped us through this sad period in our whole life. Today we are going to pick up our corgi crossed baby after 9 nights stayed and surprised to notice that everyone in the different departments lof hospital knows him. Without love and sympathy this won't be happening.
Fantastic experience: I cannot thank the Murdoch team enough for looking after my baby girl. I'm in the vet industry myself and the utter compassion, love, dedication and care the team showed was extraordinary. If you need somewhere in a pet emergency, this is the place. Special thanks to Dr Charmaine, Dr Suzanne, RVN Teghan, RVN Zoe & RVN Kym.
Negative experience: Zero stars. Appalling. Took my cat in christmas day after she could not stand. She was in pallative care for cancer so we assumed the worst. The person at reception didn't even look at her to assess her condition just made us sit. After waiting and seeing 2 staff members strolling around with no urgency we decided to rush to another vet. They immediately got her assessed and was in critical condition, she was at risk of cardiac arrest at any moment. I dont care if its christmas day, the pet should be assessed immediately. Poor poor care, as a retired nurse I could do 100% better going back day one. Show some compasion instead of lining your pockets and riding the back of the university. I don't no why anyone thinks highly of this practice I have always avoided but as it was closer i chose to go there and will never do so again. WAVES all the way.
Fantastic experience: My dog has been looked after by the Small Animal Surgery Department for the last 6 months and I have been extremely happy and impressed with the service. Everyone was very thoughtful, professional and considered in their approach. They always had our dog's best interests at heart. They were clear in their communication. Decision making was very transparent and collaborative. The primary vets involved in our dog's care have been A/Prof Mark Glyde, Drs Sean and Milly who have provided exceptional care. The nurses have all been fantastic dealing with our timid dog. She's always been comfortable attending the hospital. I am grateful for all of their hard work and care throughout our dog's treatment. Brooke has been wonderful in coordinating everything behind the scenes. She is diligent and made sure things went to plan. The reception staff made sure our insurance claims went through promptly and efficiently. Thank you to everyone at the Animal Hospital!
Fantastic experience: Our beautiful boys went to donate blood, Clare was very attentive & compassionate, along with accommodating & understood my anxiety about leaving them there. I cannot thank you enough and we can't wait to donate again, helping all the kitties in need. Thanks so much again Clare & Team!
Fantastic experience: Thank you so much to the excellent, caring staff ❤️ words can not express how grateful I am for what you have done for my girl: Willow Daisy Forever grateful x
Positive experience: Staff were very friendly and helpful. They were so gentle with our pup, and we were seen to so quickly. A higher level emergency jumped in front of us, which we totally understand, yet staff still came to update and check up on us.
Fantastic experience: This is the most caring hospital. They understand not only your pets and buts also empathise with your anxiety. Pedro, Tim, Amanda, Serena and Angela are absolutely the best!
Fantastic experience: Always reliable in a pet emergency. They’ve helped my dog and my parents German Shepherd. Thank you to all the staff there.
Fantastic experience: Excellent treatment of my dog Koji, our vet Milly was compassionate and truly passionate about helping us to understand and treat his stick injury. Amazing friendly staff at the front desk and helpful nurses. I would say this was the highest standard of care we could have received -very happy. Thank you
Fantastic experience: I needed a second opinion for my dog, as well as ultrasound equipment. The Vet, Dr Jo, was patient, kind and thorough. Many thanks.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful vets, gave us hope for our kitty where the other vers said there was nothing else they could do.
Fantastic experience: We have been unlucky enough to need two emergency admissions at the Animal Hospital and both times the care provided has been outstanding. From caring students, to senior vets (Hugh and Jesse), to kind nursing staff, I can't thank you all enough. Throughout both admissions I was kept up to date, financially consented and had an excellent discharge plan. Thank you all.
Fantastic experience: Their kidney specialist and friendly staff cared for and helped get my cat home to me. He has never been so friendly towards us. I think he got spoiled by the staff
Fantastic experience: I can not speak highly of TAHMU. There are no words to express how incredible they are. We had to bring our dog for an emergency surgery and from the first phone call to the after care op, these guys have been amazing providing our family with an outstanding care and excellent service ❤️ we more than highly recommend them. Thank you so much, TAHMU, for saving our loved pet.
Fantastic experience: Thank you to Dr Hugh Broun for taking care of Merlot (and us) on 29.6.24. We couldn’t have asked for a more compassionate and kind experience in such a difficult time.
Fantastic experience: To the beautiful staff thank you for all did to make it easy for us to make the right decision for our beautiful Jazzy, you were all amazing thank you once again.
Fantastic experience: Mia my Malti-poo needed to have her gallbladder removed, it was in a extremely bad way, left one day later it would have been fatal. The staff cared for her so well, kept in contact about her progress. They saved her life. I can't thank them enough, we lost our Little Charlie last year, her partner in crime, it wouldn't bare thinking about if she had died as well. Thankyou! ❤️❤️
Fantastic experience: Huge thank you to Dr Hugh and the team for taking such amazing care of our dog Alfie! We were so impressed with the professionalism, detail and genuine care for our little guy. He is on the mend now thanks to your expertise and we are beyond grateful!!
Negative experience: After having a horrible experience at the Murdoch Animal Hospital, I wanted to give a review for others who may be thinking of bringing their pet to this facility to know what they may potentially be faced with. The positives: 1. They have equipment to provide specialist and intensive animal care 2. The staff will follow correct procedures to care for your pets symptoms The negatives: 1. Exorbitant prices which they defend by saying it's because of the equipment and specialists they have, but other animal hospitals as well equipped as they are charge substantially less for their services. 2. You may have to wait to see a specialist. Even though my boy had a broken bone protruding through his skin, he had to wait from Saturday until Monday for a specialist review. 3. Test results weren't sent to us the night they were taken, as we requested them to be. 4. We had to wait an hour for him to be discharged to take him to his usual vet for surgery, even though we made it crystal clear the day before that he had to be ready to go and Murdoch assured us he would be. 5. His medical records were not sent to the other vet clinic, when Murdoch said they would be. They tried to contact Murdoch multiple times to know which medications and dosages he had been given and received no reply. 6. When I asked repeatedly whether he was experiencing normal healing after his surgery and was given very vague replies, I ended up asking for more information on his surgery recovery in a breed specific Facebook group. 7. We confirmed twice that we would like fur and clay imprints of his paws after he passed, but they only had ink prints ready when I went to pick them up and his body had already been taken away. 8. One of their employees saw my post, realised who I was from the information and sent a screenshot to another staff member. They then accessed my personal file to call me and used passive-aggressive language in an attempt to intimidate me into removing the post (which had in fact already been deleted because I was satisfied with the information I gained). This was a clear case of harassment and an invasion of my privacy while trying to grieve the passing of my pet. I would strongly recommend finding any other vet clinic to treat your pet.
Fantastic experience: TAHMU have always been incredible at looking after our pets and we love being a part of their Blood Bank. The staff make us feel like family and we know our cats are valued and in safe and caring hands whenever we leave them there. Our cats love their quarterly trips to TAHMU to see their favourite vets and nurses! Love from Tosca, Rory and Kit.
Fantastic experience: Thank you The Animal Hospital at Murdoch. When my dear old boy Jim passed you were a great help - He had a wonderful 18 years on this earth and was the best cat I could have hoped for. His last moments were spent with his family and we loved him till the very end such a sad moment but your staff were gentle and caring and we're so very grateful. We miss you Jimmy
Fantastic experience: Highly skilled. Empathetic and most important the pet and their welfare is the highest priority. Specialists assisting for best care possible.
Fantastic experience: Thanks Dr Hugh for your care and advice yesterday when my dog was ill. Everyone was very kind and your time and explanation was exceptional. I cannot recommend this hospital any better than to say your animals will receive the best of care here.
Fantastic experience: My partner & I had to take my poor little cat Sooty to Murdoch Animal Hospital early last Saturday morning as she'd eaten some cooked chicken bones out of the bin (a mistake that we'll never make again). We were so scared as there was lots of blood, but fortunately, the wonderful nurses & Dr Jenny acted swiftly & reassured us that she was going to be okay. We felt confident that she was in very capable hands, & by that evening, Sooty was well enough to come home & back into my care. Dr Christine sent us home with very clear discharge instructions & all of the equipment that we needed to look after her ourselves, and ensured that we would follow up with our regular vet. I wouldn't hesitate to bring any of my pets to Murdoch in the future, as the care was top-notch & they were upfront & honest about the (reasonable) pricing, especially compared to other vets. Sooty is now recovered, happy & back to her normal self. Thank you to the whole team for looking after my baby - we are incredibly grateful! (Pics just because she's cute )
Positive experience: I’ve had two terrible experiences there that shouldn’t have happened. The first time I didn’t raise a complaint, because I was grieving and in shock. The second terrible experience I had, I did raise concerns via email once I felt emotionally able to do so. The response showed a total lack of compassion and refusal to properly address my concerns, the response was to say it didn’t happen as I stated in my email! They didn’t even bother to respond when I countered that claim. Staff are typically good, but these two experiences, especially the response to my concerns, have left me angry and reluctant to go back.
Fantastic experience: We've had our dog, Rex, at the animal hospital quite a few times recently for emergencies and surgery on his legs. I can't recommend the team at Murdoch enough. They are thorough, understanding and you can tell they genuinely care. They made stressful situations much easier with their compassion. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: The truly wonderful team saved our beloved cat Jack who was admitted with a very serious heart condition. They kept us informed each day, and we left with our boy in much better condition, completely satisfied with their professional and caring service. Service like this isn't cheap but well worth it when our fur baby family members need top-level help.
Positive experience: You'll be waiting 2 hours+ if it's not an emergency. Your pet will be taken away to assess. Virtually no consultation with an ACTUAL vet. You may get a student. If you have a bird, best to call ahead to see if they actually have a vet who specialises in birds. I thought all vets could do basic birdcare. We finally had our budgie seen, vet actually came out to break the bad news, very kindly.
Fantastic experience: I cannot rate the care and compassion of Dr Hugh highly enough despite the devastating outcome of our visit. We took our little boy Tungsten to Murdoch after he deteriorated rapidly over a few hours - never expecting him to never come home however, the way we were treated, the respect and time we were given to come to terms with the reality was incredible. I am very grateful to Dr Hugh for the way we were able to send little T off, he doesn’t treat your pet as an animal but as a family member.
Fantastic experience: I have a Belgium shepherd diagnosed with IBD .. the staff at Murdoch are absolutely excellent in their care .... Fantastic experience: Had to bring my cat in again after noticing blood in urine. Got seen by doctor Hugh Broun who was just so friendly and reassuring. He explained everything really clearly and thoroughly. You can tell he really cares. Made the whole experience pleasant, thank you!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely wonderful , caring people Always patiently spend time explaining details . It is so obvious that they truly love animals . A big thankyou to Professor Glyde and the other staff members from Banjo
Negative experience: My kitten recently passed away at the hospital, the vet had said we could leave him in the hospital for 7 days until we could decide what to do with his body as well as visit him whenever we wanted to. However, the rude service the receptionist provided said we could not visit him and took him away to get cremated earlier than we had planned without informing us. Completely devastated that our family members could not say goodbye to him. Do not want to take any of my future pets there ever again.
Negative experience: Absolutely devastated. Our dog was put to sleep by Murdoch and when the pet cremation service went to collect him Murdoch could not locate our dog, they are still trying to find him saying maybe the pet cremation place had already picked him up which they have not. They think we will just go away and get over it, no we wont be. I want our dog found so we can lay him to rest. He was our very loved pet for many years.
Fantastic experience: Been here for couple of times for our new kitten....always helpful and good customer service. All people there will be ready to help you and your pet. its 24×7 service, I am we have them in case of emergency apart from our vet.
Fantastic experience: They took in a corella I rescued from the middle of the road near rockingham Beach. I called the next morning, and they said the corella is alive and that wildlife rescue and resources would pick this bird up to rehabilitation.
Fantastic experience: My small dog recently had spinal surgery, very professional and compassionate people here. My dog was well taken care of. Highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Very compassionate and caring . We had to sadly put our beautiful beloved cat Mango down and they were extremely sensitive to our sorrow and very gentle and caring to us and Mango
Fantastic experience: Murdoch looked after our little Jug dog who had an autoimmune illness. It made the situation easier to deal with knowing our baby was being cared for by amazing vets and staff.
Fantastic experience: Such a helpful and knowledgeable clinic. I was specifically asking about allergies causing head shaking and i had the friendliest vets. We came up with a plan. It was such an affordable consult which i was not expecting. While we couldnt cure my horses issues we did come up with a few extra things to try. Super helpful and easy to deal with.
Negative experience: Took our dog in for blood in her diahorrea late at night and was told to keep her in overnight and the next day for observation. Was told the next morning it would be approximately $1,400 total, by the time she was discharged that afternoon this had ballooned to $2,700 - and on being briefed when we picked her up we were told it was a uncommon, but not unusual condition; had we been told that the night before, we would have taken her home and monitored her. They also stated they would recommend her to stay another night, after having the cost balloon like this, another night for monitoring seemed excessive. Additionally to this, she left with 3 shaved sites for blood tests, one of which was on her neck- for the amount of testing on our invoice it didn't seem necessary and left me and my wife feeling like our dog had been used for practice. 1 of those blood test sites ended up getting infected, we had to take her to another vet and spend more money on further fixing her, and appears to have left prominent, potentially permanent scarring. All in all, we are glad our dog is okay and the staff showed compassion, however the overall experience was negative, and not just for the money side of it. Having to spend additional money elsewhere to treat our dog due to a complication of this treatment was not ideal. This experience left us the feeling like the business preys on vulnerable pet owners with limited 24 hour options and potentially use pets for student practice.
Fantastic experience: Staff who definitely have your animals care as the priority I would also recommend seeing Yoko at Roleystone rehabilitation post surgery to ensure all round recovery
Fantastic experience: So great to have access to such a superb facility. My Bichon had large cyst removed and treatment and service first class.
Fantastic experience: I had a really positive experience with the Animal Hospital last week. I brought my cat in who had an issue. Behind the scenes it was a very busy night, and I ended up taking my cat home for a consult with his normal vet, but only after the vet nurse and the vet made the time to make sure he wasn’t in any immediate danger. Big thanks to the vet nurse on duty at 8PM on the 28th of August. She was wonderful what was a stressful evening
Fantastic experience: I brought my beautiful boy Douglas in on Friday night who was very unwell. From the moment i made the frantic phone call i knew he was in the best place. I had him transferred from PVE and within an hour Murdoch did everything from bloods to ultrasounds to fluids. All of the staff were so kind and caring, updating me throughout the day and night and giving Dougy plenty of love. The staff work so hard to give the best possible care to our fur babies and i am truly so grateful. I have my boy back today, happy and healthy and its all because of them. I would recommend them to anyone. It was the best decision i made for Douglas and i am sure he is alive today because of them. If you are in need of emergency care, make the drive to Murdoch. Thanks again for everything! The picture is less than 24 hours after he came home and we couldnt be more thankful
Negative experience: Took our dog here after a small bone had gotten stuck, they wanted $10,000 for major surgery and we complied. After the surgery the very next day they forced us to take our dog home with a tube sticking out of her stomach for feeding along with other medical care that this god forsaken place should have been doing/done but they wanted the dog gone and out of their care. Our dog passed away the next day from complications with the surgery or from just the sheer shock of what had happened to her over those last couple of days. They expected us to give proper medical care at home without any prior training in anything remotely approaching medical care. This place, the people who work here are pathetic money grubbing scum, only focused on profit. The least I can hope for is that some of the staff will forever have a guilty conscience, tormented by the evil they're apart of. Shame on all of you involved, I will make sure to spread the word for the rest of my life of the disgusting practices this vet chooses to partake in.
Fantastic experience: Recently experienced the passing of our dog. I cannot praise and thank the staff here for their empathy, compassion and understanding in such a difficult time. The vet made me feel that she understood and cared about our dog and us. She provided clear information and helped put things into context. In such a difficult time, I cannot thank the staff for the service they provided. Rip Jeff ❤️
Fantastic experience: So grateful for the brilliant care we have always received from all of the vets and auxiliary staff, particularly Dr Lu Wildie. She immediately diagnosed a rare medical condition a few months back in one of my dogs that had been missed/misdiagnosed by another emergency vet clinic. It is thanks to her quick diagnosis and management that my dog is still alive and now healthy! I was back again today with my other dog suffering an allergic reaction and my dog was taken straight through and treated immediately. She is already back home, happy and asleep on the couch. It gives me great peace of mind to know that my dogs will be well taken care of in an emergency situation. Hopefully though, with any luck, we won't need to be back again any time soon :)
Fantastic experience: Edited to add: Was here just this past weekend 09/06 with my other cat who had stopped eating. (Pictured a day after the vet visit) decided to come here over our regular vet for a second opinion as we weren't getting all our concerns heard. We were there for almost 5 hours as the vets did what they needed to do and gave her the best care possible. Little T.B is actually the devil's spawn and I am so sorry the vets saw her feisty side, but they carried on like it was nothing. Special mention to vet Jesse, such a wonderfully compassionate human and was totally reassuring the entire time. Cannot recommend this vet clinic enough. Original review: Called in with my cat with suspected toxicity poisoning. Staff were wonderful, Harvey was seen so fast and I cannot thank them enough for the reassurance that she was okay.
Fantastic experience: I had to put my dog to sleep after 13 years, the staff and vet, and everyone there, were so supportive and my beautiful darling dog, was put out of pain, and passed peacefully. So thankful for these wonderful human beings that care for the animals and not money. God bless them.
Fantastic experience: Took me a long while to write this: Our Westipoo, Richie was admitted late night mid May 2021 with suspected intussusception upon referral from EVH. All the staff I encountered here at the time were brilliant. So kind, caring and supportive. Could not fault their humanity and professionalism. I've not come across that level of kindness and care from Doctors and nurses for humans! What a relief to deal with the amazing staff here on each 3 x 90 min round trip from home over the course of his stay.
Fantastic experience: The team at the Animal Hospital were so lovely and caring. From start to finish they were extremely clear and transparent about wait times, kept me updated on what was happening and took great care of my little Kilby. I couldn’t have been more happy with my experience- thank you all for your genuine care and support !
Negative experience: I think that most of the staff at the Murdoch Animal Hospital love animals and do their best to care for them. Well, I would like to believe that anyway. My views on the Institution itself is not as kind – it’s a money making machine. Vulnerable owners of sick pets have to pay at least 50% of the cost of treating a sick pet prior to any diagnosis. We had to pay a deposit of $3,500 although we were not aware at that stage what treatment was necessary. An MRI scan would reveal all, but unfortunately our beautiful Rottweiler, Suu Kyi lost the use of her limbs on Saturday morning, 14th January 2023, which was not convenient for the MRI Operators at Murdoch – they do not work on weekends, consequently prolonging the anguish of vulnerable pet owners and delaying urgent treatment of their beloved pets, not to mention the increase in boarding costs. A further deposit of $5,000 had to be paid 2 days after the initial deposit of $3,500 and after the MRI was carried out just in case surgery was required. I also notice that a $4.60 Murdoch Guild fee was debited to my credit card, without my permission, a small amount I must admit but it’s the principle of the matter that counts. We paid the Murdoch Animal Hospital $9175.85 in total, without any surgery being carried out. Our beautiful Rottie was returned to us 6 days after admission, in a poor state and suffering from severe diarrhea. She was diagnosed with Wobblers Syndrome, a disease of the spine. Rather than surgery, physiotherapy for a 2 week period was recommended first. Her condition deteriorated even further 2 days after her discharge from the Hospital and had to be taken back there. We were advised then that she had contracted Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) an infection probably caused by a urinary catheter inserted in her while being treated at the Hospital. She had no such infection prior to being admitted there and was in a worse state of health when we picked her up 6 days later. We paid a further $334.30 for recommended blood tests and a prescribed general antibiotic, which did not help at all. It appears the blood test results took 5 days to arrive and revealed that the antibiotics previously prescribed would not cure her infection, a different/stronger medication was required at a further cost of $329.80. In the meantime, our pet’s condition deteriorated even further, the new medication was prescribed too late and it had also caused her to vomit badly the day after taking it. That was the last straw – we had to sadly end our pet's suffering that day, Saturday 28th January 2023, she was only 6 and a half years old. Guess our Rottie Suu is just another statistic and guinea pig as far as the Hospital is concerned. I am disappointed indeed to receive no response to my message left for Brett, the Vet in charge, advising him that I had to make the ultimate, heartbreaking decision to end her suffering - it's hard to come to terms with such indifference, but looks like I will have to accept it - it is what it is.
Fantastic experience: The staff was very supportive and caring with both of us, my cat and I. She's been very well after the overnight staying. Their professionalism is excellent.
Fantastic experience: Clean premises, great and friendly staff. Location easy to find. Visited as a blood donor and dog's first time was a breeze due to professional staff who looked after us well and guided us through the process.
Negative experience: Went in on the 25th Jan after visiting My vet with my cat who told us we needed to go to emergency. He had not eaten or drunk, was not himself, and had spewed atleast 3 times that day. Our vet called ahead. To which the receptionist claimed she had no idea about. He was taken and had to spend overnight there. We were told all the possible causes and were happy to pay to check for them and to get him better! But the next morning we were told they had no idea what was wrong with him. $2,000 later that morning at 8.30am we took him home. Blood tests, an xray and an ultrasound plus further medical treatment. Told we do not know what's wrong with your cat, don't bring him back. Literally "don't bring him back" Not even any advice for what to do when we got home to care for him. $2,000 to be told nothing. It is now the 30th jan. It's been 5 days and he has still spewed every day and is not himself. He is so hot to touch. Barely moves. Will come good for a few hours and will eat and we think hes finally on the mend then it will happen again. There was no phone call like my normal vet had given me to check in. Nothing. I am absolutely disgusted. I will never be back. There Is no care for the animal or owners. Just money hungry and no education from the vets considering we paid a whopping 2,000 with still no outcome ans my cat is still sick to this day.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous staff and facilities. I am very happy with the care care given to my dog, and I know she is in capable and compassionate hands.
Fantastic experience: Amazing service, explained everything we needed to know even if things went bad. Even sent me a pic at midnight of him doing better. Kept me up to date with progress. Thank you.
